Beresford Jones acquitted of firearm offense

Beresford Jones

Twenty-two year old Beresford Jones, an employee of Belize Recycling Company, was today freed of firearm related offences when he appeared in court before Magistrate Edd. P. Usher.  On February twenty-seventh, 2009 Jones was found in possession of five live rounds of ammunition and subsequently charged for the crime.  In court today, arresting officer Fernando Franzua testified that Jones had called him and told him that he had found the ammunition while at work.  The officer then advised Jones to turn in the bullets, promising him that he wouldn’t face any charges during an ongoing amnesty program.  But Jones was still charged for keeping unlicensed ammunition.  Magistrate Usher handed down his verdict this morning telling Jones that he could not find him guilty of the offense because he was an innocent citizen who should have been exempted for possession of the ammunition he tendered during the program.  During the trial, court prosecutor Sergeant Aracelli Petillo, called on P.C. Harold Grinage who made the discovery of the ammunitions.  There was no evidence presented in court to prove that the amnesty program was not occurring at the time of the bust.  With that Jones was acquitted of the charges brought against him.

I don’t know maybe it’s just me but how can five live rounds of ammunition be considered firearm I would think that there would have to be a gun involved to have a firearm charge against someone, what can one do with ammunition and no way to use it, where was the gun could not officer Fernando Franzua and Officer Harold Grinage worked out this issue before it reached the court and waste time and the people’s money, are there not enough bad guys out there with guns and ammunition which are effectively being used to kill enough people for them to direct their resources towards or are the policemen just running scared and are looking for the easy ones just to try and make a case to look good while all the real bad guys run free.
