Stabbing incident turns deadly in Salvapan

The fourth murder over the weekend occurred in the immigrant community of Salvapan, Belmopan and was the result of a scuffle between two sets of youths.  At the end of the brawl, one lay fatally injured and two had to be hospitalized.  Marion Ali went in search of answers and filed this report.

Marion Ali, Reporting

Belmopan police have detained two youths for a brawl that resulted in the stabbing death of nineteen year old Efrein Ramirez Santiago of the Salvapan community in Belmopan.  Ramirez reportedly left his home on Chile Street with friends last Friday evening but by nine that night a bitter dispute between his group and a larger group of six youths claimed his life and landed two of his friends in the Western Regional Hospital.

It all started in front of Guang Xing Store on Cemetery Road and ended up further down the street in front of a small panades shop where the fatal stab and chop wounds were inflicted.  Ramirez ran on to Venezuela Street which runs parallel to Cemetery Road.  He collapsed on the driveway and died of the single stab wound to the throat before help could reach him.

Today when we arrived at his house, members of his family were still at a loss and were trying to figure what happened in the last few hours of Efrein’s life.  His mother, Maria Ramirez, told News Five that the last time she saw her son alive was around five o’clock on Friday evening before she went to sell tamales.

“I see my son the last time at four thirty Friday and I left ah di eat his food and I gone out and when I come back around eight something dehn tell me ih mi done stab up.”

Maria Ramirez says when she got the news she ran to the location where she was told her son lay dying.  When she got there, her worst fears were confirmed.

“Ih mi di bleed and so I gone go check ah out but he mi done dead already, pan the drain.”

Maria Ramirez, now left with eight children, is planning to put her son to rest on Thursday of this week.  Meanwhile, the other two victims who remain hospitalized at the Belmopan Hospital are eighteen year old Nazim Cantun, who suffered chop wounds to the right side of the face and left ear, and twenty-one year old Luis Medina, who was hacked also with a machete, to the right side of the face and both arms.  Belmopan police are gathering statements from eyewitnesses and are investigating whether the incident was triggered by someone who has a business in the same area.  Marion Ali for News Five.

These guys are all gangbangers, thieves and murderers and got what they had long coming to them. The Dead fellow, is brother to one Efrain Santiago, who escaped from police whilst being taken to court, a little over a month ago. (He had been detained for a murder in Benque and was being sought in relation to two other murders in Salvapan and San Martin, which are not immigrant communities by the way, but a part of the City of Belmopan, where all parcel owners are charged property taxes.) These guys all have long rap sheets with the police, and at times they seem to be protected by them also.

Another senseless murder & just by the grace of God not three more. Do we need a violence prevention program like Alcoholics Anonymous & make it mandatory for everyone under 35 & older folks who cannot resolve their differences through conversation or mediation?

  3. MADDYVANDIJK says:

Belmopan is my home, and I get pissed off when I hear murder happening there, because Belmopan is still the one place in all of Belize that is still the best place to retire, or raise your family, the people are decent, and more driven in life.
Whenever there is a murder in Belmopan It is in the immigrant community in salvapan area, I would take it to heart if these bastards start dragging down Belmopan the way the criminals rule the streets of Belize.
If you want to kill each other, then take it over the bloody border.

see what I always say about those people from salvapan, most of them dah aliens grow up like aliens, no respect for themsleves, nintheeen years an they already drinking rum like crazy, drunking men do all kind of simpleness, Now look another man dead.
I wonder if parents can’t instilled in their children some kind of values and moral for themselves, once these young men reach their teens it seems like drinking rum is what make them MAN!! HMMM

Belmopan is becoming a SPANISH TOWN and will soon be a SPANISH CITY….
Is there a Belize Street in Guatemala????

  6. Belizean Born says:

Eff Yew Maddy, Not everyone in Salvapan is an immigrant, like I have been trying to say, and you only show your ignorance by posting the way you do, I no not condone crime, but will not throw out the whole barrel because of a couple bad apples.

  7. Earl Grey says:

maddyvandijk…………. is a racist. She hates Black people, Chinese people and now it’s Spanish people. She thinks she is white because she lives in EUROPE, Amsterdam….. but as a second class citizen. I hope they don’t pull her “white card”.

  8. Straw Berry Shortcake says:

First of all yes it happened in Salvapan and it ain’t no Immigrant community and it wasn’t no Alien they killed or that killed it was a Belizean Citizen! and the fact that his brother was a murderer doesn’t mean that he had to pay for his brother’s mistake!
Secondly even if they are gang bangers, thief or murderers they are human beings and yeah eventually Belmopan will become just like Belize city streets because the police never does anything about it!
People are getting tierd of the police never doing anything! it took them ONE HOUR before they can show up to the crime scene. Eventually people will start taking the law in their own hands! According to stats today the police set the murderer free! What is that?

LOS PEPES’ PEOPLE, WE NEED TO FORM OUR OWN LOS PEPES’ IN BELIZE AND CLEAN UP OUR OWN COUNTRY, !@#$ THE GOVERNMENT!!!!!

Before you can remake a bed you need to wash the dirt of the sheets and these murderous scum are the dirt; its too late for them they need to be sent to wait in purgatory for God to judge them or they will ruin this country for the majority of us who are good Belizeans.

  13. The People Had Enough says:

Sad to say, but I agree with a comment about folks in Salvapan, every time you hear about a crime it is almost always in Salvapan, seems that these people have serious anger problems; ship their @$$!$ back across the border indeed, racist or not that’s the fact.

  14. The People Had Enough says:

God gave us will Earl Grey, but we are letting the dajjal possessed humans murder us; the battle has between good and evil has begun since 2009; good people need to start fighting back or these possessed individuals will simply continue taking us out.
