Eyan Arnold killed on Berkley Street

Police are investigating a third murder in Belize City which occurred on Sunday as a result of a shooting that took place shortly after nine a.m. Reports indicate that Eyan Arnold, a thirty-five old caretaker of a Berkeley Street address in Belize City was shot and later died at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Police responded to information received from the K.H.M.H Accident and Emergency room and found Arnold suffering from gunshot wounds to the stomach, an arm and a leg.  Today News Five spoke with Wesley Principal Brenda Armstrong, who employed Arnold for more than a decade.

Brenda Armstrong, Principal, Wesley College

“As far as I had been able to understand, he had gone out yesterday morning to purchase some groceries. Somebody says that he was there when Publics was opening—he was one of two people waiting for it to open. And on his return to his home on Berkeley Street, he was shot a number of times and eventually succumbed to injuries sometime late in the morning of Sunday.”

“Eyan has been a part of the Wesley family for years, how are you all handling this?”

Brenda Armstrong

“It’s been rough. Eyan is the kind of person that even if you don’t want to know he is around you would know. Because as he passes every classroom it is good afternoon to the teacher, good afternoon to the students. He does his job with such energy and he’s willing and he doesn’t know how to say no and sometimes I think we took advantage of that. So just thinking about getting ready fro a new school year without Eyan nearby, it has not been easy. Eyan came to us as a teenager, almost directly out of primary school, and worked with us—I’m not sure how long in that first stint. And then he left and unfortunately got involved in wrongdoing and spent his time for that, paid his price to society and ever since his release, has come and been back at Wesley College. We will take care of the burial as if he was our family and our students as a student body will be in attendance.”

Delahnie Bain

“But the funeral arrangements aren’t finalized as yet?”

Brenda Armstrong

“Nothing as yet, we await the return of his mom and when she comes to Belize then we will finalize the arrangements.”

Police have detained Kirk Smith in the murder.  Arnold’s body lies at the K.H.M.H morgue awaiting a Post Mortem examination.

Does this murder have anything to do with the recent arrest of another man on firearms charges a few weeks ago on this same street? Is there a connection to the 4 men(would be assassins) within the past month, one lived on Plues St. Since the person being held shares the same last name as a recent torture/murder victim, are all of these crimes connected? And, is this insanity related to the theft of the grenades?

All of these young men have a good side & none deserve to die but they are dying for a reason, not good ones but death is no less certain.

Violence and death is the price one have to pay for every fight, temper tantrum, and quarrel between two people in belize these days.
Belizeans have lost their sense of moral, and now all that is left is hate in man’s heart, an emotion so driven that is sure to destroy man, and every woman.
    R.I.P.

In Belize we are no longer allowed to go hands up with each other every single thing is gun play…thats how all frictions end. You see those two doctors…mark my words…give up time and I am sure one of them will end up with some rounds inside them, laying in the dark room up under the white sheet.

I knew him from Wesley College and during that time he was a dedicated, hardworking individual that took pride in doing his work. Everytime he would pass he would bid us all the time of the day and continue on with his work as usual. Its so sad that the few hardworking men in Belize are being killed for no reason I could think of. I truly hope they find his killer but life is a cycle and what u do in life will come back to you to those who are shedding innocent blood. RIP Dread!

Ian was my friend and co-worker. I have never known a more generous and hardworking man than Ian. In fact, he is the most humble and mannerly young man I was privileged to know. I will certainly miss his visits on Sundays. It is hard for me to accept that he is gone. They have a saying that “Big men don’t cry,” but I have cried several times already just thinking of the time I have spent with Ian.
Rest in peace, Ian. God is not dead. He knows what has happened and He will deal accordingly with the one who has taken you away from us.
