Midmorning robbery and shooting at UFO Kenny’s Shop
A shop located around the corner from the Raccoon Street Police Formation in Belize City was robbed at gunpoint this morning. UFO Kenny’s Shop, located on Fairweather Street near the intersection with North Creek, could have been the scene of a deadly shooting. Luckily no one was hurt. According to neighbors, sometime after ten in the morning, they noticed that the shutters were pulled down in front of the store. Before they could make checks, they heard a loud gunshot which sent them scurrying off to find safe cover. Though the details are still sketchy, the neighbors say that two gunmen rode up on bicycles to rob the store. They wore no mask as they came under the guise of customers. One neighbor who spoke to the shopkeeper, thirty two year old Fan Li, said that they ordered large quantities of flour that needed to be weighed at the back of the store. That was when one of the men pulled down the shutters in front of the store while the other assailant took aim with his handgun at the shopkeeper. All this occurred while the assistant was distracted at the rear of the shop with the purported purchase. The gunman then fired one shot that narrowly missed the shopkeeper. The noise prompted neighbors to call 911. The culprits escaped on their bicycles with six hundred dollars cash before the cops arrived on the scene.
People if you had started calling 911 when the first wave of violence began years ago, we would not be terrorized now. I hope these people have a surveillance system & we do not have to count on eyewitnesses for a conviction.
The animals are at it again, stealing from the hard working people of Belize.
Start shooting back, make sure they don’t live another day to spend your money.
there was an armed robbery last week in maya beach, placencia, and nothing was in the news…anyway, robbers got away walking down the street (there is only one ) and police start the investigation the morning after. Call 911? better call your neighbours….
the only option is to have every business person own a gun or guns and make it mandatory from now on, two, to have the gov. make a amendment that says “if in case a robber is killed in progress of a robbery the business person is free on any charge due to self defence”. it’would be the only solution to all this killings of business persons who are working hard to provide the daily needs of the slow economy. come on P.M make it real so we can survive this hardtime with crimes on our faces everyday.
Belizeanpride the only thing that needs to be amended is the dractonian gun laws of Belize. They keep making it harder for law abiding citizens to own guns saying that this will bring down crime but yet the opposite happens, people who think like that cannot see logic just a deep inner fear of firearms. Look at gun ban Mexico and see if gun bans work right. Lets hope our foolish politicians wake up and allow Belizeans to own the tools to defend themselves.
With regards to making a law that says that anyone shooting a thief during the commission of a robbery, there is no need for that because its already in our books. In fact the Preamble to the our Constitution clearly states that any person who violates another person’s rights surrenders their very own right.
Sad to say but all that nonsense that the media likes to spread around saying that IF YOU CO-OPERATE THEY WILL JUST TAKE YOUR MONEY AND LEAVE YOU ALONE does not work. The chinese lady in Santa Elena did exactly that and see what that got her 6ft under.
