PM responds to questionable transactions in Auditor General report
The Office of the Prime Minister has officially responded to the findings of the 2008-2009 Audit Report. Late last week, News Five asked Prime Minister Dean Barrow about the report which was compiled by Auditor General Edmund Zuniga. The findings reflected, among other things, an increase in the number of questionable transactions occurring during 2005 and 2009. The figure grew from one hundred and forty-two million dollars under the Musa Administration in 2005 to two hundred and eighty million in March of 2009, a year into the term of the UDP government. The release goes on to state quote – While the Auditor General’s Annual Report does outline lingering failures with the operation of the government’s system of accounting, there is a clear distinction between such long-existing failures on the part of those operating the system and the deliberate and calculated abuse of power by Ministers and other elected officials that had become the norm under the last administration. Even when accounting failures are concerned, the bulk of what has been detailed by the Auditor General took place before February, 2008 – unquote. The government has also indicated that it accepts the suggestions made by the auditor general in addressing that and other shortcomings.
Just clean out the rat’s nest, clean every crook out of government, the police, and the courts.
I want JUST ONE honest politician to stand up and lead us out of this terrible wilderness of theft and corruption we have voted ourselves into. That’s right, we are to blame for our mess, voting for “generous” criminals at every poll.
Isn’t theft from the public treasury just a different kind of treason? So the punishment should be the same.
dean …hole barrow should stop worry about the freaking money and stop the killer
This UDP administration is making Musa’s PUP look good!!!! Never thought that was possible. How strange……
.. and the UDP will bring the cost of living down – no matter what!!!!!! Oh, another lie!
It is a consensus that there is corruption within all levels of Government in Belize and possible not going to change anytime soon at least not by our present PM since him being elected was mostly an ambitious move on his part than anything else like for the record kind of thing, I was the PM of Belize I made it to the top ok you all can have the country back now I am going back to the States, of course he need to realize that he made it there on promises which so far he has not kept like making sure that there is accountability and transparency in government I don’t see it, the government of Belize still operates in a very questionable manner of course this can be considered acting in the interest of those in power and not the citizens at large.
‘ I AGREE WITH U rootman, dean barrow was the most popular prime minister in the history of belize, looks like he counted the eggs before theyve’d hatched….lol where are all the POSIBILITIES HE TOLD\promised the belizean people to imagine?posibilities that only lois young barrow, gapy vega, anwar barrow, manuel esquivel, zenaida moya flowers,UDP CRONIES, they are d only ones getting and we the majority\poor are not getting anything…..TAX GONE UP by 25%,Belize is 46% poorer now, unemployment is extremely high, crime rate is a disaster, MOH is a failure, they are over spending our tax $$$$ in buying new suv’s,TRIPS ABROAD, the prime minister and his wife showing off his expensive rolex watch, expensive clothes, with tax payers money, and can’t even order the MOW [ministry of works} to build the bridge to replace the KENDAL BRIDGE,for our people of the south.but is OVER SPENDING $282.000.000.00,while the musa administration only spent $182.000.000.00, thatz $100.000.000.00 more in taxes for their own profit because we belizeans are not getting anything. thatz a shame for the dean barrow administration, we the poor have ir rough its very hard time we are going through, and our gov’t is just telling us to ‘IMAGINE THE POSSIBILITIES.”
UDP THINK THEY CAN FOOL THE BELIZEAN PEOPLE AGAIN,THEN THEY CRAZYYYYYY”
The whole system appears corrupt, the roles of Government have been forgotten/ignored and now just a headlong competition/race to reach the top of Government and get paid in full.
I cannot see this system of governance in Belize improving, whether UDP or PUP, it is all the same, one great payday with increasing egos. What ever happened to Governance for the People, by the people?
There needs to be a whole rethink of this situation – career politicians need not appear/contribute. Rethink this system of governance now before it really is too late (e.g. Haiti, Jamaica…..).
Sallams
You know why he said “Imagine the Possibilities”? It’s because that’s the only place a paradise will exist…in our IMAGINATION. The only POSSIBILITIES is that this government is worst than the first when it comes to managing hard-working-taxpayer-dollars. They’re spending more than they are making. We had SPRANGHEAD economics in the first government…what this one have… CHAMPAGNE LIFE ON A BEER SALARY economics???
UDP, PUP all the same. Some kind of Democracy when it’s the same 2 parties run all the
time, ha! An old friend of mine up in NYC told me awhile ago, give no man yo, X so
them cant get you Vex. Ok everyone we have a crime committed some where, but I
think it okay to have the perpetrators do the investigating. One more think Mind Control.
Imagine the possibilities, we will bring down the cost of living no matter what, i will not tolerate not even a whiff of corruption, good governance, accountability and transparency. These quotes are from Dean Barrow various speeches leading up to the 2008 elections. What happen to all these promises Barrow? The only possibilities we can imagine is to see all those who now are plundering the Belizean Treasury in jail, the cost of living climbs higher each passing day, Barrows royal nose seems to have clogged up since he cannot smell the corruption that is swirling around him. I will admit that the PUP did some wrong things and the paid dearly for this by being voted out of office. My advice to you Barrow is to start to govern and stop playing the blame game, the PUPS are out the ball is now on your side of the court, the buck stops at your desk, this is your watch, take some resposibility.
