Gunshots through bedroom window, but gunmen at wrong house

There were two shootings elsewhere in the city; a family was asleep when a hale of bullets was fired at their house. The attempt on the lives of the Young family happened at dawn on Saturday morning on Racecourse Street, another area prone to gun violence. Eight shots found their way into their house; luckily only one family member was injured. The Youngs say the intended targets live elsewhere. News’s Five Jose Sanchez has a report.

Jose Sanchez, Reporting

The Young family home at ninety-three Racecourse Street was violated early Saturday morning at the break of dawn.  While Olivia Neal and her children were fast asleep, gunmen repeatedly fired shots through their bedroom windows. Slugs were removed from the mattresses and the pellets that missed the bed but penetrated with ease through the walls. Olivia Neal was in disbelief that someone would try to kill her and her family.

Voice of: Olivia Neal, Says Gunmen Shot Wrong House

“It happened ten to five Saturday morning.”

Jose Sanchez

“Someone came and fired shots. How many shots?”

Voice of: Olivia Neal

“They fired about nine shot.”

Jose Sanchez

“And those are through the windows?”

Voice of: Olivia Neal

“Through the window dehn.”

Jose Sanchez

“How many windows?”

Voice of: Olivia Neal

“Two windows.”

Jose Sanchez

“Was anyone hurt?”

Voice of: Olivia Neal

“Yes.”

Jose Sanchez

“Who? And how was the individual hurt?”

Voice of: Olivia Neal

“He jump up because he yer di loud noise den when he jump up he do ih hand up so. And when he do ih hand up so, ih ketch ah inna ih hand.”

Jose Sanchez

“Who is this ‘he?’”

Voice of: Olivia Neal

“Gerald Young Junior.”

Jose Sanchez

“That’s your son?”

Voice of: Olivia Neal

“Yeah.”

Jose Sanchez

“He wasn’t hurt too bad?”

Voice of: Olivia Neal

“No.”

Gerald showed us the injury to his arm.  The twenty-four year old was lucky.  But why would someone want to shoot a home in which the youths are not involved in gangs or illegal activity? Neal says it’s because of a couple youths who were recently standing in her yard recently.

Voice of: Olivia Neal

“Dehn shoot in the house because Sunday night ahead, di young man dehn come in—they were passing and den dehn si two young lady deh and my grandson. So dehn stop in fi hail dehn and was talking with dem. I don’t know if di young men were following them or something like dat. When we see di young man dem mi granddaughter tell mi grandson must mek ih tell di young man mek dehn go cause dehn know mommy noh want dehn yah and den dehn gone. When dehn gone di young man dehn come back wid wah gun. Ih point it at the house but di gun snap. Ih gone and den ten to five Saturday morning dehn come and shoot up di house.”

Jose Sanchez

“So you are saying that these gunmen think that the young men live here?”

Voice of: Olivia Neal

“The girls live here but they don’t live here. We just want them to know that these young men don’t live here.”

Neal’s message is an important one in an age when the slaughter of the innocents goes unchecked.  Reporting for News Five, Jose Sanchez.

Police are investigating another shooting close to midday on Saturday.  Thirty-six year old Joseph Panting Jr. was rushed to the K.H.M.H. after he was injured in a shooting as he rode his bicycle on Zericote Street.   A lone gunman approached Panting and opened fire when he reached the intersection with Ebony Street; he was hit on the left cheek.

Trying to make sense out of nonsense makes no sense. These boys shot into the house because they wanted to & knew they would get away with it.

Miss Neal, every one of these would be murderer’s fathers remember mothers & grandmothers showing them “bad face”, that was a standard part of courtship. A young man needed to prove himself worthy to hang around someone’s daughter & for some reason we have too many young men who seem to believe that just showing up entitles them to sleep in your homes with your children & grandchildren.

These animals are not confused, they are making sure the next time they approach your granddaughters, the girls may be intimidated enough to let them have their way. Before you decide that you cannot identify them & make excuses for their behavior, just remember, it is just by the grace of God, they did not kill someone that morning. Take back your neighborhood.

Hard times requires hard decision, this is why the government need to rush through a law just like they did to take over BTL, a law that will make it illegal to be a member of these gang, and a law to catch these loosers and tag them with computer chip or braceletts that will allow authorities to track them 24/7 including knowing if they fire a gun, and what was the location when the gun was fired. Take all the guess work out of knowing and finding exactly who the culprit is. Put these thugs on the defense big time. THAT IS WHAT IS KNOWN A PROACTIVE FIGHTING CRIMINALS AND TAKING BACK THE COUNTRY.

Oh man. gotta love it (NOT). A mentally challenged
guy is shot down for nothing. Nothing. And in two
weeks probably only his family will remember since
by then there will have been several more equally
senseless murders. Now educate me please, in
Belize does the crime of first degree murder carry an
automatic life sentence? I personally am opposed to
the death penalty, but I can tell you that a life sentence
which does in fact mean for the rest of the perp’s
rotten life *does* take the wind out of their sails quite
    a bit. These types of criminals only understand (IOW;
    ‘process correctly’) tough penalties.
