Minister’s son tries to kill himself in police custody

Andre Hutchinson

In other news, twenty-three year old Andrew Hutchinson, the son of Minister Michael Hutchinson, has had previous problems with the law. Today he was back in court where he pleaded guilty to a charge of Harm for beating up an eleven year old boy. But after he was escorted back to the police station, Hutchinson used a pair of trousers and to hang himself inside the holding cell. Officers rushed to his aid when he was reportedly seen dangling from a beam. In court Hutchinson, a Ladyville resident who is known for unstable behaviour, appeared before Magistrate Aretha Ford and confessed that he walked up the boy, punched him the face and then threw him into a nearby drain at mile eleven on the Northern Highway. When asked if he agreed with the facts, Hutchinson said yes and told the magistrate that he attacked the boy because he made an inappropriate sexual comment about his mother. He went on to explain that since birth he has had a brain defect, which causes him to react violently to minor things and all he needs are drugs to keep him calm. Magistrate Ford told him that’s no excuse for his behaviour and fined him two hundred dollars to be paid by September. He also has outstanding fines for at least five previous convictions.

This Magistrate needs a vacation. This is nothing short of power play by her. Who dosen’t know that in today’s modern times that some individuals does need certain medication to keep them calm and rational? Shame on you madam Magistrate.

  2. Robert says:

Fines don’t seem to be working for this villain. I don’t care who his daddy is, he is a danger to law-abiding citizens. If the courts won’t punish him — 6 convictions, 6 fines, none of them paid! — who will?

I thought all Belizeans are supposed to be equal before the law — none better, none worse than the other.

Lock him up until he isn’t a threat to little boys.

  3. MADDYVANDIJK/DEREALIST says:

One look at this man and one can tell that he has a brain defect, perhaps his father the minister should seek some professional help for his son, or it could be that he washed his darn hands off his son as well for bringing such shame to the family name.

  4. Earl Grey says:

THE BOY IS SICK……. he needs help, LOOK AT HIM. The least we can do is get him the drugs he needs to balance out…………AND send him to “rock view”? What could the 11yr old say that was that bad???LOL

  5. Edith says:

When will this person get the help he obviously needs. Are we waiting for him to kill somebody just because he’s a ministers son.HE BEAT AN 11 YR OLD. $200 fine? R u serious – n he has prior convictions – am I the only one that thinks the ENTIRE judicial system needs to b overhauled?

  6. jungleeducator says:

I agree that he seems to be a sick person and he needs help. One would imagine his family is in a position to do this. But have you met any eleven year olds lately?

  7. josie says:

I think with medication and theraphy that might be of some help to him, his parents need to step up to the plate and assist their child before anything else happens. What about the 11 year old, does anyone know how he is doing?

  8. daveyt says:

He needs to be in jail, he has unpaid fines already, and anyone else, who doesn’t have a Minister as a parent, would have gone straight to Hattieville!

No chance of making him pay compensation to the little boy that he beat up either, I guess, and the ‘Honourable’ father of his will remain quiet and not help either, after all, he is a Minister now, and cannot be seen to associate with us Peasants!

All I can say is if he had done that to any of my kids, he’d be needing medical help and a whole heap of painkillers!

  9. deedee says:

He needs help & needs it NOW.Its not the first time this man is before the courts for violent behavior. A picture do says a thousand words, and from the looks of this pic Hannibal Lecter is somewhere inside this man…lol. I’m sure the family of this man is well aware of his unstable behavior,he claims that he needs his meds to stay calm & sane, why isn’t the family making sure of this? Andre is a ticking time bomb & if his family or those in authority don’t seek to get this man help, he will graduate from assult to murder.

  10. Dr. Flie says:

If Ministers of Government and Magistrates are displaying this attitude, how can we expect the mental health programs in the country to improve. in 2010 and ONE psychiatrist for the WHOLE Country

  11. Bulba Martinez says:

MADDY, I had promised myself that I would’nt waste my time and participate commenting on these articles anymore, but this one really hit me and hurt my heart very much. I would like to share my views daily with my Beloved Countrymen/Women, but it is very stressful reading these very sad issues surrounding our people on a daily basis, it’s crazy. That being said, I really don’t give two Coconut Husk if this kid brought shame on his family’s name, if this statement is true. We as parents should not leave or forsake our children for absolutely no reason. We need to LOVE our children, recognize and realize any problems that they encounter from birth, and we need to provide adequate treatment at all times, whether it may be psychological or otherwise. If for any reason this Minister washed his hands and don’t give a damn about his kid, then he is the one that brought shame on his immediate Family name. This Jack-ss (Donkey) is responsible for this kid since birth and should have recognized that his son needed Behavioural Treatment. This is one of our Country’s Representative that we elected into office, then guess what, he also brought shame on his Political Family’s name, but yet we wonder why our country is in such dilemma?. “We di live eena wah multitude a Ra-s”.

  13. Manford says:

Hi Balba, like you many times I told myself not to contribute to this FORUM, however if what I have to say can help one person then its worth time I take to add my two cents. All of you folks who think you have a good handle on human behaviour, I suggest that you go on line and look up a book that I have referenced at least two times on this FORUM: EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE. I have friends that are in the mental health proffession that works with the penal systems to help Judges make rational decision when sentencing an offender., especially the young offenders. As a result of been able to look at the human brain in live time doctors are learning so much of this most important part of the human machine that alow them to render medical assistance that use to be considered nontreatable.

Many times one emotional well being has to do with diet.A few years ago the son of one of my good friend went into a three years COMA from which he never recovered until he die, just from eating peanuts that was given to him in a cookie by his new wife who did not know he was alergic to peanut. The family of the young boy is living in the long past when we watched people that were not emotional stable and we used them as our laughing stock due to ignorance. One of my nephews had a fainting spell while he lived in Belize that he controled by medication, but when he went to the USA and changed his diet he no longer need that medication.

What’s this foolishness about the boy bring disgrace to the family is the reason they gave upon on him; get real, that’s a COP OUT. The disgrace is on the parents, especially being a politician. Does he realize and understand what his position mean to all the citizens of the country? You all better wake up and smell the coffee.

  14. Bulba Martinez says:

Manford, I agree with you 100% and I will still hold the parents accountable for this child, moreso the Idiot Minister, his dad. Sorry to hear about your friend’s lost, my heart goes out to the family and God Bless. I’m not sure if you currently reside in Belize, but I hope you and I can both agree about the incompetence and professionalism of our so called Educated Officials. The next thing Manford, most of us are ignorant in watching our diet for various reasons and some of us ignore the consequences of an unhealthy diet. We in Belize supposedly have one Psychiatrist who in my view is as crazy as some of our Judicial Officials, who are also lacking knowledge of mental disorders (Behaviour). It is quite obvious that, “The Blind is leading the Blind” and we all act out of plain frustration that makes all of us look like these Idiots. Then on the other hand, it is very embarrassing to know that we elected a Government Representative that has obviously neglected this child and has completely failed him. This to me also show our Belizean people why our Country is falling apart drastically. Nothing like the GOOD old days Manford, nothing like the GOOD old days, when most of our former leaders long ago only had elementary level education and did an outstanding job with little or no resources. Like yourself, I would like to make a difference towards a better and safer Belize. Just tell me what to think or do Manford that will help to change our Beloved Country and I’ll definetely follow your Footsteps. You definetely have me in your corner my friend, because at the end of the day, it all boils down to “LOVE”.

  15. Islander says:

My heart is torn in two with this one. First of all as stated the guy need help in order to get his head straight cause without meds and a proper diagnosis he poses a risk to others and himself…which brings me to the second point, Imagine being the parent of the kid who he just assaulted. I don’t have any kids but if any adult ever assaulted my nephews or nieces, that fellow would be begging for the cops to arrest him by the time i’m done with him.

  16. jesse says:

If a minister dont give a dam about his son,u think he cares about the people he is put on power to serve?none of the mafia on the pup or udp care about belizeans.

  17. MADDYVANDIJK/DEREALIST says:

Manford, I was under the influence that the family of Andrew was too embarassed of his actions with the law, since they are public figures, so the family put their reputation first and to hell with Andrew and his mental problem.
I think we are all in agreement here that Andrew need some mental help for his mental problem, and his family should help him get as much help as possible instead of throwing him to the dogs.
It would be sad to see you go, your comments, respect and opinions are well appreciated. The issues that belizean are facing today is affecting everyone, thus it is everyone’s business.

  18. Earl Grey says:

    Manford is ………….The professor!!!!
