Do you think public schools should be required to pay garbage collection fees?

This week, management of public schools and the Belize Waste Control company have been meeting on a new fee to be imposed for garage collection. The schools say they can’t afford to pay, but the company says it simply can’t continue to provide the service for free. A compromise had still not been reached up to news time tonight. The question is: Do you think public schools should be required to pay garbage collection fees? Emmanuel Lemott and Egbert Miller charged for murder of Hellen Yu

Four persons were in court today to face charges in connection with the shooting death of fourteen year old Hellen Yu, but only two of them were charged with murder. The four are Emmanuel Lemott, Wilward Anderson, his nephew Egbert Miller and girlfriend Carmen Jones. Miller and Lemott were read a host of charges: Murder of Hellen Yu, Attempted Murder of her father Ziren Yu, Use of Deadly Means of Harm, Dangerous Harm, Conspiracy to Commit Murder, Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery and Handling Stolen Goods for two cell phones belonging to Hellen’s mother Zhuang Huang. The phones were recovered in Belize City on August thirteenth, the day after the murder. They were also charged jointly with Jones and Anderson with an additional two counts of Handling Stolen Goods for a nine millimetre Sig Sawer Brand pistol and a sim card from one of Huang’s phones, which were found in Cotton Tree on Tuesday. The pistol turned out to be property of another Asian National, Guan Qiana. The four will return to court on September twenty-seventh in Belize City and then on the twenty-eighth in Belmopan for the items found in Cotton Tree. Hellen and her father were shot during a robbery at their family grocery store, Yue’s Store on August twelfth. She was laid to rest on August nineteenth, a day when the Asian business community closed down to register their displeasure with the crime situation.

  1. Also Concerned says:

Everyone should pay something: residents, businesses, and schools. Why is everything expected to be free?

  2. Jay Madison says:

If the schools are going to be required to pay for garbage collection, who is really going to wind up paying are the parents.
My children go to the Methodist school, and “Dress Day” ( every Friday you can come to class in regular clothes, but you have to pay $1 for the right to wear you own clothes) was started to help pay for a copy machine for the school. That was 3 years ago, the new copier was purchased 2 years ago, where has the rest of the money been going??
So We the parents will have to foot the bill for garbage collection, and after the schools wasn’t there talk about charging homeowners to collect their garbage also. So in effect we would be paying twice, if it comes to that.

  3. rootsman says:

Nothing in life is free, I am assuming that the garbage collection company is a private company, now tell me how do you force a private company to do work for free only in Belize I suppose, even if the government was picking up the garbage that would not be considered free since people pay taxes and the government operates on a budget just like private companies and when that budget falls short the government raises taxes just like private companies raises the price of their services.

  4. truth says:

i pay for garbage already and if the school pays that means school fees will go up making me pay for garbage twice.
