Court says case adjourned, but a cop’s letter from his boss says case dismissed
Special Constable John Myvette was interdicted in February when he was criminally charged for doing business with an accused sex offender. Myvette was back in court today for Obtaining Services by Deception and Extortion but his case was simply adjourned until October seventeenth because the prosecutor did not have the case file. But what happens on that date is up in the air because the story took an interesting twist. Myvette showed our court reporter a letter dated back to March twenty-fifth and signed by Superintendent Bartolo Jones on behalf of the Commissioner of Police about the lifting of his interdiction. While it seems the court, has still not been advised, the notice reads (quote) “Be informed that the suspension imposed on you is hereby lifted effective July twenty-seventh, 2010. This is as a result of your case being dismissed at the Belize Magistrate Court in Belize City.” (Unquote) The letter also states that Myvette is to return to the job immediately and that all withheld salaries will be paid. Myvette was accused when Keon Williams, aka Gambis, was denied bail on charges of Committing an Unnatural Crime upon a fourteen year old student of Belize City. The Magistrate ordered that he be remanded to the Central Prison, but Gambis never made that trip and was later spotted roaming the streets. Police launched an investigation and later charged Myvett, whom Gambis says he paid two thousand, six hundred dollars to secure him bail through the Supreme Court. But he was out before the paperwork was complete. Police later rearrested Gambis, was granted bail through proper procedures and is now awaiting a preliminary inquiry.

Belize need some serious prayers .I don’t even know what else to say because apparently our people isn’t getting it.
So the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. And another case will be thrown out next month.
That’s okay Officer Myvett, Williams will need someone to deliver the messages & money to the 14 year old & her mother to make that case go away soon enough.
Funny BUSINESS…….but, BUSINESS AS USUAL.
Police doing business with criminals, what’s new about that in belize.
They will probably send this other cooked cop to Punta Gorda or Belmopan too.
Horrbile, horrible system there in that country.
see whey i tell unu corruption corruptionnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn from this pm down the line and y only wa get worse get rid a this gov. now now people no wait another day .
Lovely – the corruption cobtinues – the country can’t b safe when the very same people we pay to uphold the law r getting paid better by the criminals to break them. Then what do we do, we reward the corrupt officer by re-instating him n giving him back pay. Was the $2600 even recovered from this so called officer? Goodness, these people good huh? Only in Belize, then we get upset when foreigners refer to us as a third world country.

Just another crooked cop, there are lots of them dirty dirty dirty, this is contributing to the crime situation in Belize in a real big way and no pay raise will change this no one can be paid to be honest it’s just a part of your principles of life.
We tolerate police corruption. I guess we shouldn’t complain when we get hurt from it. An officer who does such a thing belongs in prison, not in uniform. Police should be exceptional people, not everyday ragtag crooks.
Robert…………. COPS AND CRIMINALS ARE CUT FROM THE SAME CLOTH.
I was hoping to come scope out Belize as a place to live out the rest of my life. I’m 65, born in America, though I’ve never claimed it as my real home, Black, and tired of dealing with all the ugliness in this country. It promises to get much worse after fall mid-term elections when the Republicans will take back the house and senate. God help Blacks and brown-skinned people THEN.
But . . . it seems Belize has a growing crime problem and plenty of police corruption to go around. I know what THAT means, damn it.
Guess I have to look elsewhere outside the US for safety and enough Black and brown faces to make me happy. Wish me luck.
Joan, many people that went back to belize to retire lost their lives not from natural death, but by gun violence.
You are safe where you are right now.
