Should the City Center be demolished or repaired?

We reported earlier this week that the Belize City Center will be out of commission for a number of activities in this month’s national celebrations. The facility deteriorated over the years and has now been declared unsafe due to structural damages. The Ministry of Words has inspected and deemed that it should be closed off to large crowds. Tonight we ask: Should the City Center be demolished or repaired? Send your comments and responses using your SMART phones to 8686 or post your vote on our e-poll at channel5belize.com. You can also send an e-mail with your comments to questions@channel5belize.com.

YES. Rebuild it & make sure it meets international safety standards sin & the work is supervised by an honest, competent project manager so we’re not having this conversation again in 10 years.

  2. MADDYVANDIJK/DEREALIST says:

The city center was built so long ago, and it seems like little or no repairs have been done, it no longer looks attractive or safe for accomodation.
without any repairs over the years this could be a huge disaster.

I say demolished the center, make a new blue print, and then construct an environment that is grand and safe to accomodate large groups of people at the same time

I wasn’t sure which to go with simply because I think it should all come down to cost. Is it cheaper to repair or rebuild? …and isn’t there a gov office or agency downstairs? I say look at cost, factor in demolishing n go with the cheaper option. Then follow up with regular maintenance.

If Renovate means: MORE MONEY (short term and/or long term, if built with sub-standard construction skills)

    THEN NO.

If Demolish and Rebuild means: LESS MONEY (short-term and/or long term, if incorporated with energy efficient, safety features, etc.)

THEN YES, GO AHEAD AND DEMOLISH THE BEAST!

If Renovate means: LESS MONEY (short-term and/or long term, if incorporated with energy efficient features, safety features etc.)

Then YES, but I highly doubt this could happen.

If Demolish and Rebuild means: MORE MONEY (short-term and/or long term, if built with sub-standard construction skills)
