Jordick Thompson, 17yrs old, another youth added to murder statistics
Gun violence erupted on Wednesday, the first time this week. The victim was just a month shy of his eighteenth birthday. Jordick Thompson’s life was in danger for months; he had been receiving threats by text and Wednesday night as he left the home of his girlfriend on Glenn Street, he was gunned down by a man on bicycle. He is the third member of the Thompson family to die in the crime wave crippling the City. The family is joined in grief by many who worked with him. News Five’s Marion Ali found out today how Thompson was murdered.

Although there was an early morning rain today, there was still a puddle of blood-stained water that formed after seventeen year old Jordick Thompson was ruthlessly gunned down on Wednesday night.
Thompson, who would have celebrated his eighteenth birthday next month, was shot dead as he left his girlfriend’s home on George Street to go to his house off Pickstock Street. He was shot in the left ear on Glenn Street, just a couple hundred feet from his girlfriend’s house. While his family is trying to figure out why their teenaged boy was killed, one thing they do know, that his killing was not an accident.
Voice of: Harold Thompson, Father of Murder Victim
“He was coming from his girlfriend house and according to what I hear somebody follow him and shot ah eena ih ears.”
Myrna Smith, Grandmother, Jordick Thompson
“The girlfriend get some text pan ih phone and seh dat deh wah kill he. Somebody, I noh know dah who. Dehn seh deh wah kill Jordick. Deh wah kill ah, I noh know dah concern what.”
Marion Ali
“The text that she was getting, was it from a cell phone that she recognized?”
Myrna Smith
‘Well the cell phone, my daughter get it cause dah fi Jordick. Dah Jordick phone but sometimes she have it and use it. When she tell me I tell she don’t erase it. Show it to the police.”
Today police reviewed that cell phone as they probe on who has been sending Thompson threatening messages for the past several months. Meanwhile, this is not the first time that the family is going through grief, as violence has knocked at their door before. This is the second son that Harold Thompson will have to bury because of gun violence. Jordick’s older brother, Devon, was shot dead two years ago. His uncle, Michael Gladden, the son of Myrna Smith, was also killed in 2008, both murders have gone unsolved.
Voice of: Harold Thompson
“Yoh could seh bad luck, that’s all. I noh angry with nobody. The first one gone just like that, and the next one gwein just like that too.’
Myrna Smith
“We done know that no justice deh because dehn mi done kill my big son and we noh get nothing outta it.”
There was an aura of sadness as we visited the Bottom Dollar Store on North Front Street today. This was the where Jordick Thompson worked to make a living. His boss, Jacqueline Wills, told News Five that Thompson was always willing to work and jovial on the job.
Jacqueline Wills, Operations Mgr., Bottom Dollar
“He’s always in here happy, dancing, it’s so sad to hear something like that would happen to him, you know. He was always jovial here so it’s really sad to hear and my condolences go out to the family and we’re gonna really miss him.”
The seventeen year old youth would have celebrated one year of service with Bottom Dollar next month, just ten days after his eighteenth birthday. But none of that will come to pass because his life was cut short at the hands of gun violence. Marion Ali for News Five.
As far as the investigation goes, the police say the motive for the homicide is still uncertain. Police Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Fitzroy Yearwood, told News Five that there is little to go by but officers are following several leads at this time including the threats Thompson received prior to his slaying.
Sergeant Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer
“Jerdick Thompson was riding on this street heading towards the West Canal when he was approached by a lone gunman who fired that fatal shot to him.”
Marion Ali
“This gunman was also on a bike, was he walking, was he lay-waiting?”
Sergeant Fitzroy Yearwood
“Apparently he was also on bicycle. We’re following several leads, we have no one detained, we have people that we’re questioning.”
Thompson will be buried later this week.

I am tiered of hearing about people getting threats in Belize and yet these retards can’t link someone to these crimes with the aid of the phone records. What the F do these cops go to training school for?
What can our children look forward to when they are surrounded by death?.
To see the look on this woman’s face as she resigns herself to the fact that nothing will be done, no one will be punished & she will do one of the most unnatural things most of us never experience, bury her child & now two grandsons. Sad…
Marked for DEATH ……. and there’s nothing you can do???
WHY MUST DEATH BE THE ONLY SOLUTION???????????????
OUR CHURCHES HAVE FAILED US ……… we don’t value human life!!! THOU SHALL NOT KILL!!!
The MORAL COMPASS IS BROKEN….. Who will fix it???
“How much grief can a mother’s heart hold, only the soul is her witness”.
sad to say, but many more will die on the streets of Belize by gun violence.
The police have the cell number of the caller sending death threaths, the bastard should not be so hard to find.
R.I.P.
here we go again when are the belizeans gonna wake up its not going to stop and this pm and this gov. is useless we need to get them out from pm down lets send this pm packing to the us he cares nothing about all the belizeans being killed we are now above of last year for murders and the same time so things are getting worse not better oooo but i forgot this pm is not oliver twist his name is oliver barrow and he will not beg for more money to save your childs life he is too proud to beg he will make do with what we have he doesnt want to upset obama so people if unu no do something bout it its going to continue and next time it might be you march belizeans march to this pms house and demand the hanging penalty hang them highhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Another youth killed after receiving threatening txts n police AGAIN have no one detained? R u serious? Omg what is going on? I cannot begin to fathom the grief this family is going through. Three family members lost through street violence, all three unsolved. Something has got to b done, someone has got to step up. Can’t the phone companies start working with the police department to track down these phone users that r not only threatening to but actually following through n taking people’s lives?
Wasn’t sure if this is the case, but did he know something abt the brother’s murder to b receiving threats? They did say it was a hung jury n was suppose to come up in court again. R they looking into the possibility that the two cases may b related?
I know this young man very well and its upsetting this happened to him. He is very nice, charming and helpful. The thing is that he was working, not someone idling on the streets.
Most of the time it seems like these crimes are committed by someone on a bike it seems like the cops could just patrol the city at night in unmarked vehicles and check out these suspicious looking guys on bicycles because apparently that is the main means of transportation and Belize city is such a small place they would be able to make many rounds without much effort. This one should be a slam dunk text messages with threats the government owns the phone company most likely it was a digicell phone that was used find out where he frequently gets his topup and go wait for him there he will probably have the murder weapon on him.
Sad…
Yes it’s very sad, now they want justice but there is no where to buy justice. The court doesn’t and the government official don’t know what is the meaning of justice. In our Belize people are Been protected. On animals are the ones that are been protected. What is going on with the court and the government. Hanging most been past into laws immediately like how dean barrow privatize BTL immediately . It’s realy getting wild in Belize city it self
most Belizeans will disagree but there should be a legislation whereby all cell phone numbers be registered to the name of the user; and if the phone is lost, it should be reported immediately for cancellation.
Here in Mexico, when I bought my cell phone, I had to use my passport to buy and register the number in my name because Mexicans have been facing threats and extortion by phone…
what i don’t agree on is ease-dropping because the Ministers in Government will miss use this legislation for personal interest.
If you can recall during a debate, Minister X shouted out loud to the leader of the opposition that this speech was prepared by person X because the email was intercepted…this was before any legislation was passed on using ICT to combat crime.
i have just lost my cousin, Ian Flower’s, to senseless gun violence with no justice in sight; I’am a born Bzn who migrated to the US in 96 but will not place my foot back there. So to the government of belize i simply say to you ” ….. THAT COUNTRY”. People are mere sheep’s for the slaughter in that city, unless the so call system start’s to hang these …… parasite’s, people will keep on being killed simply for living thier daily lives.
youths of Belize why are you killing each other?the world lookon us as being weak because there is nothing we can do about it.Please STOP…..Think. put down the gun and save a life don”t kill a brother do not let another family mourn.lets live and appreciate Gods gift of life.
The crime rate is really getting out of control in the city. the thing is many people are saying the police are not doing their job. The truth is there is only as much that a cop can do, cause when the case goes to court what happens it definitely falls apart. People stop blaming the Police blame the Justice system and our Heads of Government. They are the same culprits that are letting these Murders or animals walk free all the time and at the same time they are the one not passing out laws that are strong enough to deal with scenarios like these. Jeez How much more injustices like these do they have to see before something is done
belize need to shut down di government and kick fitzroy lazy … to the curb.
another murder.
D police dem suck … they can’t trace call d father says he no angry wit no body…..if one of these mofo would tek my son life I would burn dat … down till I find dat worm
