WinBelize wins a sizeable grant from the US
The Women’s Issue Network of Belize received a grant of close to two hundred thousand dollars today. The grant will assist the agency in addressing gender-based violence in Belize. When domestic abuse goes unresolved, the consequences can be deadly, as we reported earlier with Shamir Henry and Leshawn Lino. The grant was made by the Embassy of the United States on behalf of the U.S. Secretary of State’s Office of Global Women’s Issues.
Kelly McCarthy, Public Affairs Officer, U.S. Embassy
“On behalf of the U.S. Embassy, I am very pleased to present to you this funding to the Women’s Issues Network and it is being given through the department of State through the Secretary’s Office of Global Women’s Issues. The Women’s Issues Network definitely was a strong contender and we submitted it to the secretary’s office and it competed against three hundred and thirty other proposals and received funding for the total amount was ninety-nine thousand, nine hundred and twenty-five US dollars for its program. The title of the program is “Increasing access to justice, psycho social and rehabilitative services for victims of commercial exploitations and domestic violence”. It’s a very admirable project, it’s very important work and on behalf of the US Embassy and the American people, I’m very, very pleased to present you with this funding for your program.”
Carolyn Reynolds, Coordinator, WIN-Belize
“It’s the project that will be done jointly with the Youth Enhancement Services and the Have House shelter for battered women. While we have seen an adjustment, a revision of the domestic violence act, this funding will assist those who are experiencing domestic violence and for commercial sexual exploitation, to aces justice here in Belize and also to receive counseling and education on violence here.”

God knows we need all the help we can get. Thanks!
Good, just like i posted on the case of the abuse vicim.
Shelters for battered women are serioulsy needed in Belize, women dont get the help they so needed, insted they get sent to jail without and rehabilitive services for domestic abuse.
Put the money to good use.
You know what is sick with this movement?thats all this money from american tax payers,me been one of them,is that this dollars will only be used for the city woman-not for the rest of the poor woman who live all over belize-cant the US embassy see this?the belize mafia government does the same, all thier projects are for the city ……-who by the way are killing each other and giving this tiny country a bad name.guess the US EMBASSY has been contaminated with the poison of the criminals with a lawdegree in power(pup&up mafia).
jesse, i do agree with you that in belize city the people are indeed killing each other like flies. The money donated to the city is not just for the belize city women, it is for every belizean woman willing to make the steps of her recovery. I hope that women across belize living with an abusive partner will take advantage of what is freely avaliable to them before it is too late.
The money was donated to the city, since it is the most populated city in Belize, regardless of all the killings there.
