Former P.U.P. Secretary General, Carlos Espat, laid to rest

The Holy Redeemer Cathedral in downtown Belize City was overflowing today with family and friends for the funeral services for the late Carlos Espat, former educator and Secretary General of the People’s United Party.  Espat was interned at Homeland Memorial Cemetery on the Western Highway following celebration of his life. There was no eulogy and the homily was delivered by Father Noel Leslie. The forty-seven year old was discovered dead inside his bath tub at his apartment on the third floor at the corner of Albert and King Streets in Belize City on Saturday morning.  The post mortem on his body revealed that he died of trauma to the head and chest and it is believed he was bludgeoned to death.  There was no sign of forced entry into his apartment and police are yet to establish a motive.  Carlos Espat served as Secretary General of the PUP from 1994 to 1998.  Before that, he taught at Wesley College and Anglican Cathedral College.
