Vigil held for safe return of missing Rash siblings
It has been a turbulent week for the San Marcos community in southern Belize. Hopes are dimming in the search for a young brother and sister who mysteriously disappeared more than a week now. Desperate villagers, who were led to believe that the siblings had been abducted, set a crocodile sanctuary on fire last Sunday. A fortune teller has been charged for misleading the Maya Community. Earlier today, a moving vigil was held for the safe return of the two missing children. News Five’s Isani Cayetano reports from Punta Gorda.
They prayed, some wept while others were simply there to lend moral support but with each passing day the hope of reuniting the missing children with their family seems to be slipping away. It has been a little over a week since nine year old Oneila and her brother Benjamin Rash set out to sell fruits in Hopeville, a small, mixed community on the outskirts of Punta Gorda Town. The pair had traveled twelve miles from their home in San Marcos Village that morning to vend lime and craboo and never returned.
Sr. Supt. Robert Mariano, O.C. Toledo Police Formation
“The police continue to record statements from persons who have sighted these children on the day they disappeared. The police continue to go around. We have recorded or visited houses from Cattle Landing all the way to San Antonio. We have stopped at every house and asked questions from family members or people who live on the road if they have seen these children.”
Sadly, no one has offered information that would lead to their discovery and Punta Gorda police, despite recording witness statements, are still looking for a needle in a haystack. A lot has transpired within the community since their disappearance including the arson of a property belonging to an American couple. Regardless of that incident Cristina Coc of the Maya Leaders Alliance maintains that the focus should be on finding the missing children.
Cristina Coc, Spokesperson, Mayan Leaders Alliance
“The issue is two missing children, Oneila and Benjamin. The issue is that members of our community have suffered a great loss. We don’t know the whereabouts of these children. We don’t wanna forget that this is the point, to seek support to find these children. Whether we find them alive or whether they’ve suffered a tragic fate we need some closure. We need to know what happened to our children.”
Amidst that investigation is an accusation that has shattered the lives of Vincent and Cherie Rose, owners of what was once a refuge for captive crocodiles. Vincent is falsely accused of abducting the children and using them to feed the animals. Their safe haven, known as the American Crocodile Education Sanctuary, has since been incinerated in what is believed to be an act of arson. While police remain tightlipped on the matter Coc says that the angry villagers were not responsible for burning down the property on Sunday.
Cristina Coc
“We have been told very clearly that there is no evidence, no factual evidence at all to link the Maya community of San Marcos to this arson case.”
Until that case can also be cracked local law enforcement are left to unravel another whodunit mystery. Meanwhile the Rash family took the stage at Central Park where they made an impassioned plea for the location of their loved ones. Senior Superintendent Robert Mariano says they have been receiving assistance from the Belize Defense Force.
Sr. Supt. Robert Mariano
“The B.D.F. air wing had fly over the entire district looking around to see if they have seen any strange objects especially the bucket that these children had and not even the bucket have been sighted.”
Both investigations are ongoing and the department is leaving no stones unturned. The arson on Sunday, however, has dealt a black eye to the Mayan community which has for years shared a cozy relationship with foreigners.
Christina Coc
“We continue to live as a peaceful people. In regards to our relationship with the Rose family we feel, again I express my sympathy for their loss but I also understand that Mr. Rose made some really nasty comments about Mayan communities. I forgive him because its emotions speaking. We take no offence to that. We know that we are not savages. We know that we are responsible Belizeans. We know that we have lived and abided by the laws of Belize since the time that we have lived here.”
Up until news time today no one has been arrested and charged for the arson neither has anyone been arrested for the abduction of the Rash siblings. Reporting for News Five, I am Isani Cayetano.
Police say that the search for the children will be sustained.

Ms. Coc, you appear to be a very bright & articulate woman. Do not say things that enforces the stereotype & fuel the American media. Maybe Mr. Rose is not a very likable person & speaks without thinking but his reaction was in response to what was done to him by your people, our people who listened to someone who listened to the voices in her head.
Circling the wagons may protect the people who showed up with machete & the ones who burned this place down but our country already has a black eye, we didn’t need to give it a matching set.
You know you are not a savage, take the high ground. Do what good politicians do; look sincere, apologize for whatever your community did if they did it & let our very capable police men continue their investigation. They may surprise us.
All of us are praying for these children to return home safely.
There were bad decisions every step of the way, we need to know how often these children made this trip. Did they have odd encounters in the past? Unfortunately with the hysteria that has taken over the community, I am not sure any of their playmates can provide untainted info.
How is it “living by the law of Belizeans” to attack and burn down property of these people, with no evidence, and no trial? You can’t defend the indefensible! The honest thing to do is to condemn the mob action and do everything possible to right the wrong that was undeniably committed by the community.
Christina, I do not sense a lot of remorse, or grieving from you over the disappearance of your children, It seem the public is doing most the grief here, while the innocent burned.
Mr. Rose only acted in response to what the Mayans did to his property, and it was a savage act done by the Mayans, and if you are too ignorant to understand that, that is your loss.
Focus on your children, which should be your most important objective here instead of insults, take responsibility for your part in the disappearance of your children, instead of blaming other’s.
Yeah, my patience is spiraling down.
Has anyone stopped to think that these poor kids were abducted and sold into slavery in one of the neighboring countries..Honduras, Guatemala?
I really hope cristina and gregory sit down with the parents and have a good talk with them in regard to parenting, my goodness i am anxious hear these children have been found, with all the suffering the parents are going through I still blame them. If the children were abducted and sold into slavery don’t think only about Guatemala and Honduras, USA is a country I really don’t like and trust, they kill children for healthy body parts, they are savages as well.many years a go in belmopan a child got lost in this similar way, his mother send him back a bush to take food for the father, that child was never found up to this day, the search was intense helicoper, soldiers, police, citizens, walk endless miles and hours, the little boy was never found, that was almost thirty years ago.Again parents fault!!! Why send the children to far to sell, do errands, mein its sad, I feel it for Benjamin and oneida. But I am still praying tha they are found!!! I am crying at this moment for them.
hi guys.
i’m not saying this to worry the parents of the missing mayans, but let’s face the true reality
in many countries(especially poor countries LIKE southern Belice) children, tanagers and even full grown men are Kidnapped for their organs. Picture this in your mind . If a rich man’s child suffers from a weak heart and death threatens his son. if he goes to a illegal doctor and pays him about 10 to 20 gran for a heart. well you get the res. . . . . . . that’s the reason some people are kidnapped and vanish in thin air.
O and to the people who burnt down the house. Imagine if the children were in the house all tied up all tied up in some secret sofa or refrigerator. what would have happen? Dead kids, you would have killed them!! But THANK GOD THAT NOT THE CASE!
I personally believe you I N D I genous villagers have lost the support from most people because your targets are wrong like you all have cack eyes or something.
LET THERE BE A THOROUGH INVESTIGATION OF THE ARSON.
SOMEONE MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE……….
Ms. CHOC NEEDS TO FACE UP TO THE FACT…. “FACT” OF WHAT HAPPENED.
JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED!!!!!
Cristina Coc
“We have been told very clearly that there is no evidence, no factual evidence at all to link the Maya community of San Marcos to this arson case.”
So who was it on the bus then?
Shame on you Ms. Coc for coming in the defence of the people who burn a house down. what do you mean that there is no evidence? you sound like an Attorney protecting their criminal clients, the reason why belize in the state it is in now. the police arrested/ detained the group of people that where at the residence. maybe they don’t know exactly who did it, nontheless the entier group is responsible. it is sad that after sounding so intellegent at court fighting for land right you sound so ignorant on the matter. maybe it is because no money will be gotten from your forgien interest like was gotten for the land.
by the way Ms. Coc are you ready to live in communal land and release the properties that you own?
Ms. Coc you should apologize on behalf of the people you represent and stop clouding the issue.
look at the history of the mayas in belize. it is not the first time that a house is burn down in the communities. example at hand is when they burn the home of Mr. Armando, general manager of TCGA. so Ms. COC don’t come if weak statments on the matter (law abiding BS).
I can’t believe the audacity of the mayas to demand that the weapons that were being brandished at the home of MR. Rose the day that it was burn. Saying that they need it for work and that it was not going to be used… HA what a joke… do they think we are fools? thank god that the rose family was not at home or else the story would have been of murder.
remember that the police are doing the best thay can and with hepl form the community the children will be found. please stop the brutality and unite for the children… they should be the piont of interest.
may god be with them…
maybe it is time to look in the forest found around cattle landing going to forest home and water hole??????
MS coc have done the right thing . the cops did not see the guys putting the house ablaze.
No shame on miss coc. I personally think that she did the right thing. Wat if it were your child that went missing won’t you be so up raged and try to seek for revenge and or justice? come on you see that i am strong supporter of these two missing individuals. Just like how the garinagus are respected and given a special day to celebrate give the Mayas to do the same. Ms coc has been well known for her magnificent works for the Mayan people. you see the fact that the San Marcos people burnt the house was because the police did not want to break in the house instead they said that they needed a warranty first but think again if you are a belizean would the police respect your property or would they just break( bust ) in your house right? I had a personal experience when the police went at 11 o clock in the night trying to arrest us(mom, myself and little sister) for what have been call a report but not in black and white. what is this some kind of game that the police can play on us? come on wake up! the police had guns like we are some kind of criminals, when they entered our house in front of my family . that is the first time the police ever payed a visit at my house. After that went to the police station and the pc woman that went and bust in our house was not there. she said ” oh the report is not in black and white so there is no case? Wat is that now? think again. Perks? bribery? bt in Gods good grace we left it like that. We wanted no trouble so we prayed for the enemies.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
let justice be serve where it needs to be serve!!!!!
I wasn’t surprise by Cristina’s comments at all, they will NEVER take responsibility about that arson that took place at the Rose property. As a matter of fact they will NEVER take responsibility for anything. They will always play the “victim card”, look at their pattern.
I must agree with the comments above,we should be focus on the missing kids,
this is not a only Mayan issue, for it could have been any other children, Mestizo,Creol, or Garifuna,
so Ms.Coc don’t come with that story of Mayas only,
and if they burnt down Mr Arson property of course that was a savage move, just as how it was a savage move by that or those who have gone with these kids.
Stop doing things for PUBLICITY but as a great CHARITY to render support to the Family a nd the Community, just don’t hurry for the cameras and the other media with your so PROPER ENGLISH,
say they are not to be blame, who knows what exactly happened, for sure NOT YOU.
We all know that the judgicial system in Belize is broken. The only people protected by the laws in Belize are the wealthy Belizeans like Doctor Gough.
I believe the Arson incidet in the ToledoDistrict occured as a result of GOB incompetence to deal with the present crime situation in the jewel. The people of this nation has lose faith in the judicial system and more is yet to come, this is just the begining.People will continue to take matter into their hands until Mr Barrow start acting like a leader and not a follower.
WHEN THE LEADERSHIP HAS NO VISION……. THE PEOPLE WILL PERISH!!!!
THE VALUE OF Mr. ROSE’S LOST SHOULD BE DEDUCTED FROM THE MAYAN TRIBAL LANDS…… ……………… that should teach them a lesson.
Well, imagine if Cristina had been responding to a white person who thought a Maya person stole his kids and whipped up a frenzied mob to go burn down the Mayan house. Wht would she have said then?
No factual evidence? They TOLD people they were going to do it, and then 100 people from San Marcos drove there, with guns and machetes, and, while they were all standing around, the place burned. What planet does Cristina Coc live on when she is not visiting Toledo?
The above is typical garbage from these self appointed worthless “Maya Leaders” who live in big privately owned fancy houses, drive nice fancy privately owned Hiluxes and want the rest of the Maya to not have their own private land.
I am not impressed, Cristina.
IF YOU DON’T WANT TO BE CALLED SAVAGES, THEN DON’T ACT LIKE SAVAGES AND BURN AN INNOCENT FAMILY’S HOME, POSSESSIONS, AND BUSINESS DOWN ON THE ADVICE OF A WITCH DR.
Get Real people. The whole world knows what happened, no matter how you try to spin it.
Sorry, but it’s your bad.
and that’s the truth. Cut the crap.
Elgin now you are predicting ….”more is yet to come, this is just the begining.People will continue to take matter into their hands until Mr Barrow start acting like a leader and not a follower.”
Are you one of the mob? Where you there? In an earlier post you threatened me with burning as well……..

hal Spry: House spray what ever your name is better shut up or i am going to get my Mayan people fu bun fire pan you and the Bwai Rose again. No one didn’t even die as a result of this incident. Why is so much attention given to this when we’ve got brothers killing each others in the streets of Belize?Guess what House Spray i am going to make the psychic Selgado tek care a you.
I say your comments lead me to think you need to be investigated.
So I suggest everyone Google Elgin Martinez….
Well Elgin? Changing your name and pages doesn’t help. And really……plaid on plaid? I saw a girl wearing the same outfit last week.
Well I believe if they tables were turned and it was the mayans’s house burned mrs. Coc would have said “there is evidence as a witness saw two people getting off a small car (not a bus) and burn our houses” TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHAT YOUR PEOPLE DID PERIOD! ALSO SELL SOME OF YOUR LANDS AND PAY THESE PEOPLE OFF FOR THE HURRENDOUS THING YOUR PEOPLE DID BASED ON A WITCH DOCTOR. Sorry for the children I wished they were found safe and sound and that there parents will learn a lesson and not send them to sell far away on their own. Also Mrs. Coc, don’t be offended by words thrown for your people when what they did is a disgrace, you people would have called even uglier names. Savage comes short!!!
Elgin: Should the persons who lit the fire be punished?
To “The MOB” –
if the shoe fits, wear it.
If you’re insulted by being called SAVAGES, then don’t act like SAVAGES.
Which came first? The chicken or the egg?
Eve had a great idea. They should sell some of their land to compensate the Roses financially,
and maybe the Roses should sell their thirty six acres to someone really undesirable.. Maybe Elgin.
Oh I forgot …he couldn’t afford it.
There is now a line drawn between the foreigners and the Belizeans. And you can tell the foreigners that have integrated into the Belizean society because they all put the children before the crocs. And that line was drawn deliberately to punish the whole of Belize by a very bitter set of people who enjoys calling the Belizeans savages.
To Eve: you are a land and money grabber from people who have next to nothing. Pay off someone’s investment who didn’t have the fortitude to insure their property? You have your eye on any piece of land in particular?
Zoomom: who came first? The Mayans. And spreading vicious news about the entire country of Belize is a deliberate punishment on the whole population. What kind of people who claim to be professionals use the media to destroy a country that hosted them for years? People that hate the entire population and harbor a deep resentment of them as savages.
Hal Spry: Why would you and some other poster track down Elgin on Facebook and come here talking about his picture? What did you see….Rasta boy with picky head and face as black as pot?
You’re in Belize son. This is what we see as handsome in our society.
Start a new croc sanctuary in the south side of the city, no bwai. There’s a lot of London Bridges there for the crocs to frolic. And don’t hire no Mayan to watch crocs. And the south side gangs will welcome you with open arms.
Miss Lady- again I ask you. Vince called the people who burned his property down “savages”. If his house hadn’t been burned down by a busload of your countrymen – Vince wouldn’t have even been talking to the press to begin with. Which came first? The ARSON or the name-calling???
Can you please just answer that question.
Hal Spry: You don’t write our country’s constitution. As a result who are you to decide what is suppose to be done with the Mayan community.Maybe you and the Rose family should apoligize to the Mayan people of this country.
If Vince had done his homework, he would not have invested so heavily in a product that the natives found so threatening. First came the affront to open a croc farm in the middle of a people who fears crocs. NO respect for the locals, whatsoever. Then turn around and blame the villagers for their primitive beliefs. It was an investment that was doomed to failure the first time one of the villagers disappeared. Business 101.
Yeah, Vince bought the land. Did he know the customs of such a small village before he settled in? There is an unwritten rule that when you settle down in such a remote area and build yourself a Tower with all kinds of expensive contraptions, you automatically become the big man in those parts.
Along with that comes a certain responsibility…in Spanish they call it “El Patron.” The locals will look up to you and every now and then you should throw them a crust. Now, children goes missing and from what I read, there were 2 boats and a sort of car rental business. Don’t hold me on that cause it’s what I read and a whole lot of things have now been twisted.
Anyhow, the locals are confused as to why their Patron doesn’t seem to even flinch when the kids are missing, they are hoping that the Patron will maybe offer a boat, a car, something to help them find the kids. The Patron instead goes to San Pedro to get or care for another croc?
If the Mayans weren’t so suspicious of the Roses, there wouldn’t have been a war of the Roses.
It’s almost like a feudal system….had the Roses hit it off with the locals…they would have enjoyed immense loyalty from them. What a waste.
hal spry: You boy Vince couldn’t go to a Native American Reservation in the States and dis respect them as he did to our Belizean Mayan people.
misspiggy….Elgin is on the hot seat for being a lying racist and threatening violence.
And in general being an AFOC.
I never commented on Elgins color or race so why are you? I just said he looked feminine and had bad taste. Why do I persist on him? He keeps trying to spin his comments, and racist tripe.
Elgin: Try this……Elgin goes to the store, when he returns he finds his house burned down. As he stares in horror, someone says…the mob did it, they couldn’t find the children.. He says to himself, Why my house? I didn’t do anything! Those people are __________ !
Insert ANY words you want here.
What should the punishment be for burning down private property and killing crocs?
Fool….Native Americans are smart enough not to do what that mob did. Harm an innocent neighbor . You sir do not know anything of our Native people. I do. I have sat in many sweats and danced at pow wow Talked to elderly men in their tipi. They would not have harmed an innocent neighbor. I put that info forth to show I can’t very well be a racist, I have lived quite peacefully with all different races. All cultures contain some bad people. Like you Elgin.
Miss Lady – put the blame where the blame lies. At the feet of the village, the parents, and the pd.

September 13, 2010 at 11:31 am hal spry: You boy Vince couldn’t go to a Native American Reservation in the States and dis respect them as he did to our Belizean Mayan people.
Yes you could, Elgin. And no one’s property would have been torched, or their butts would have been in jail so fast their heads would spin.
@Native Americans are smart enough not to do what that mob did. Harm an innocent neighbor .–
Oh really, Hal Sprat, how come when I was visiting New Mexico, a Native American went up to a postal delivery worker and for no good reason slit her throat? Few years back, and no I never went back to that state I was so traumatized. You’ve been to many pow-wows and that made you automatically assimilate into the Native American culture? No wonder you are here condemning the Mayans. You know them and their culture well enough to know that they are savages and dared to fight back the croc farm that was threatening their entire village. When the women and kids go to the Mopan to wash and bathe they no longer have the treat of farm grown crocs attacking them from that sanctuary. San Marcos has once more become a Mayan sanctuary the way it was 8 years ago. That is one of the facts that we can all clearly see now.
Hell’s Spat …. You are picking on Elgin because he’s spoken up for his Mayan brothers. And you don’t tolerate an uppty darkie, huh?
The punishment for setting up a threat to an entire Mayan community has already been doled out. The punishment for going in the heart of the jungle and not insuring your property…likewise.
Zoomom :Miss Lady – put the blame where the blame lies. At the feet of the village, the parents, and the pd.
You think the villagers had no right in a land that they have been at for 3000 years. Just because the new conquistadors have landed 7 years ago, they can do what they want to the Mayans?
There is blame enough to go around here. The Roses are totally innocent, in your eyes? If you can say yes with a clear conscience….well, how many Belizeans might you be acting very insensitively to as we speak? Because it isn’t a crime in your eyes to threaten an entire village with predators, well if that doesn’t speak volumes.
And you don’t think that if even JayLo can insure her batty for millions of dollars that someone puts up a home in the middle of the jungle and thinks he shouldn’t insure it? How about fire, flood, hurricane, lightening? What made is home not susceptible to the environment—someone that speaks so passionately about said environment? Or maybe the insurers heard rumors and wouldn’t offer that place insurance? How do we know why that place wasn’t insured….but you think that everyone should be responsible for the loss…when everyone else and their brothers carry insurance on their little dog-sitdown in the rest of Belize? And if they don’t have insurance then too bad, that’s the way the game is played. You have any proof that the bush doc told these people to burn that place down? Why did those people hate that place so much?
Zoomom: Yes you could, Elgin. And no one’s property would have been torched, or their butts would have been in jail so fast their heads would spin.
Oh please….I got lost in Arizona one time and by mistake ended up on a reservation…..no wonder you all think you can treat the Mayans like dogs! Well, let me tell you, that reservation was in a pitiful state. The Native American Indians there were still pumping gas from a zinc barrel-like rusty contraption. You’re right their butts would have been in jail so fast……..the Native American Indians don’t wander too far from the res for that same reason.
ONCE AGAIN MISS LADY – we are not making this a BATTLE between RACES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is about a mob of NUT JOB CRIMINALS that burned an innocent man’s property DOWN on the advice of A WITCH DOCTOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“You’ve been to many pow-wows and that made you automatically assimilate into the Native American culture?”
No you idiot. Since I am white that is only slightly possible. But as I said, ” I have sat in many sweats and danced at pow wow Talked to elderly men in their tipi.”
Know what a sweat is?
If I can be tuned in to the customs and culture to the point where they give you a name and say you’re all right. How can I be a racist when I have lived among so many cultures peacefully.
I treat culture with respect. Individuals like Elgin deserve no respect. And niether do you. Your posts reveal that you are the racist….willing to post any amount of sidestepping smokescreen, propaganda,to advance your cause. If you really despise white culture….why do you live in it?
Amazes me that you racists are all ways screaming racist at me.

ONCE AGAIN MISS LADY – we are not making this a BATTLE between RACES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is about a mob of NUT JOB CRIMINALS that burned an innocent man’s property DOWN on the advice of A WITCH DOCTOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is absolutely what it is about for you…..in your world that is isolated from the natives. And there is no god but your god, huh? And there is only one side to this story in your mind.
If you want to define a real NUT JOB—take a good look at someone who steps outside their cultures and take their values and try to ram it down an “inferior” culture’s throat.
A bush doctor or a curandera isn’t a psychic. Get that straight to start with. You all think you are dealing with Miss Cleo here.
And the other side of the story is the same as Colonial Africa where the natives were in dread of the white man and as soon as the white man turns his back they do something to get rid of the said white man. Didn’t you learn anything from watching Tarzan?
hal spry —I’ll gladly accept the label of IDIOT if it comes from someone who acts like you do.
No they never caught the person who did the murder because even though it was witnessed by lots of people –the tribal wanted to handle it themselves cause there was no motive or circumstances connected what-so-ever. And the white people couldn’t identify any of the Indians cause they said they looked so alike.
But you are the one that stated @Native Americans are smart enough not to do what that mob did. Harm an innocent neighbor .– You said that to Elgin and that statement is a total LIE.
Yet you call Elgin a LIAR readily enough. Now you are trying to pretend this is an isolated incident???? Such crimes happen all the time as we both know.
Please explain this part of your message:
No you idiot. Since I am white that is only slightly possible. EOM.
So, since you are white—there is only a slight possibility that you are an idiot? Another one of your twisted ideology, if that is what you meant to say.
Know what a sweat is? –Yes, but only men were allowed….same kind of gender discrimination that doesn’t surprise me that you adhere to.
Oh for god sakes’, you can go to many, many pow-wow all the time….the American Indian are a very welcoming people. They are held in so many community centers it isn’t funny.
@If I can be tuned in to the customs and culture to the point where they give you a name and say you’re all right. How can I be a racist when I have lived among so many cultures peacefully.
I treat culture with respect.
———how come you haven’t extended your generosity to the Mayans? They don’t deserve it plus this is truly the first time you have even thought of those bunch of savages, right? Oh, at one of the pow-wows I went to with my class….they gave anyone who wanted a name, and so we all got a name. Sorry to say that your experience isn’t that special. Sorry to burst your bubble that you are not all that SPECIAL after all.
If you respect the American Indians so much why are you hiding behind their good name to try to make yourself look good?
@Individuals like Elgin deserve no respect. And niether do you. ==== Why, because you the Great White God said so? Funny stuff, dude.
@Amazes me that you racists are all ways screaming racist at me. === Not used to being the underdog, huh? At least we scream it…so you know but you all use it with a vengeance. Have you spoken to at least one of the men that compromised this mob….did you see that they were doing what any real man would do to protect themselves and theirs, since you accept all cultures? Or are you just defending the loss of money and forgot you had been spiritually cleansed by the sweating?
And you flaunting your whiteness isn’t racist? No, nothing you and your followers do is bad….it’s the others that are all wrong and all the time.
I find it an honour to be called an Idiot by you. And how do you know that I’m not even whiter than you? Belize was British and also founded originally by the Scots. So there is that big chance that I’m not dazzled by white skin.
What are you smokin? I have never read such a dis jointed, twisted, mis understood, senseless,
hit job.
I don’t even know where to begin with you. I guess it will have to be point by point.

First of all , I think you are lying about the whole event happening or that you were anywhere near it. Your whole scenario is BS. If a murder occurs on a reservation, there is no way the tribe handles it themselves. A whole lot of abc agencies have control.
I have not been to a sweat where women were not allowed.
There is a difference between some Oooh let’s go watch the Indians dance,…. and wearing their clothing , made at home by me, and dancing with them. And I bet they would give you a name.—- Waddles much.
“Individuals like Elgin deserve no respect. And niether do you. ==== Why, because you the Great White God said so? Funny stuff, dude.”
No because you are both racist, your selves. I have never made this about race It is about stupid if anything. I came in because Elgin was posting obviously racist remarks and lies, like you. Look back through the history of this thread and look at all the remarks from people that agree and say so….Elgin and you are the worst racists on here.
“did you see that they were doing what any real man would do to protect themselves and theirs, since you accept all cultures?” Are you just crazy? Real men of _ANY RACE,_ do not run over to the innocent people down the road in a frenzy of mob mentality, with machetes and guns and burn the place. How did they know if they were burning children? They thought they were there right? Again… it is just about stupid. I for one would want the premises searched I do not care what race they are. As for my Native American friends… I stood up when Elgin made a remark about them….and to point out my acceptance of cultural diversity. Not to be self important, that was you twisting meanings , because you are a spiteful racist as well, reacting to some perceived slur on the people in general, that was meant for the CRIMINALS.
” And how do you know that I’m not even whiter than you? ” Not hard big girl, not hard.
You probably need a cleansing, ……..inside
As for me… there isn’t much more I can say to you.
I would like to draw all eyes back the comment left by BZNinCali. Thank you for your wise calm words.
Our hearts and prayers are with the darling Rash children and their family.
His/her words speak for themselves – advice to EVERYONE to focus on the children, to NOT do the EASY and ignorant knee-jerk thing of feeding into anger and mob mentality both on the ground and on the internet. Lynching and mob hysteria is not a part of Belizean Maya culture, history or mentality. I am from the south and half Maya. Look at the history. Look at the strong stalwart old Maya families in the community.
That type of grab for village justice, however, based on many accounts, is very much a part of the Guatemalan experience by indigenous populations who feel they have no social, political, legal protection in their own country. This is something that we as Belizeans – Maya, Creole, Garifuna, Indian, Chinese, Mennonite alike – must rise above.
Ms Coc cannot have it both ways. If she wants to remain the strong, credible, Maya Community leader that she has strived to become, then she must also be responsible. While she may be right in saying there is no proof that what was done to the unpleasant and disagreeable expat was directly from the actions of the angry group; she is wrong however in negating and deflecting any acceptance that the lynch mob mentality. No matter how harrowing the situation, is NEVER acceptable to condone that behaviour, even through silence. By failing to acknowledge it she also leaves the door wide open to support that kind of activity – should it happen again … or perhaps that is politically expedient for her to do so.
Whatever the case, the priority is and remains the children.
The parents must be in agony and as the days pass there is continued fear about the wellfare of these little ones.
The senseless murder of a young lady, doing her job happened in a white suburban area right after lunch with people out doing regular things. The tribal wanted to handle it themselves because the witnesses all had conflicting stories and the stories got really racial with vigilantes springing up talking junk just like what is happening now. The police did all the usual and the tribe cooperated completely but they were right to look out for their own and not have everyone label the whole tribe guilty. I feel sorry for the young lady to this day.
Have you seen what a tropical depression or a hurricane can do to the outlying villages? Look at the pictures of what Karl has done as portrayed in today’s newspaper. See how high that water gets? Now think of 17 dangerous crocs who could then go into a village with houses flat on the ground. Try to think like a Mayan or Belizean Bushie. They have been through floods and destruction for generations and have had to fight off encroachment by the wild animals and reptiles when stuff like this happens– because government help isn’t going to reach them for weeks maybe months. How can you possibly know the shoes these people walk in when you call every attempt to explain their position —a lie?
I do wish that the Belize gov would help the Roses, because they are in a terrible situation. If GOB could offer them some kind of employment in the meanwhile till things get sorted out….that would be a beginning. There has to be jobs like teaching or working with biologists teams conducting research. People could get together and make bbq’s and other fund raising to help them out too. People could try to support them by trying to get the GOB to get on the case and make sure that the case file isn’t misplaced or gets lost —if you read the news you know this happens sometimes. That’s the kind of help these poor people need. Not the bickering and finger pointing that I now remove myself from.
As I said…your whole story is BS , and a distraction from the “other” comments you posted.
I don’t say this does not happen, there is murder ON and Off reservations, everyday in the USA.
I just say the use of that story was out of context in this matter. You tried to compare an alleged individual committing a crime with mob mentality group action. Apples and oranges, and I think that better than half of it was made up in your little raisin brain..
So now you remove your self,….. well I will hang around.
I think people are afraid voice their taught that is one of the reason when the time comes they shy away from the truth. i believe that once you witnessed a crime you should tell the police exactly what you saw and not change your story. in the end you go on living but the dead is forgotten, only the family mourns their loss.
all u people have suddenly lost focus on what the real issue we are trying to solve here. hell, we take part for the rose family because they are “whites”, if it was just another poor indian man’s house that was burnt done. i bet we would have had nothing against it. but we are still mentally colonized. why don’t we continue to focus on the loss of two innocent children, not the damn lost of two americans raising crocodiles, for which we have little purpose. i’ve been to the place more than once, but i bet many people of toledo didn’t even know about the place until this incident, so why mourn over it? help mourn for the lost children…join in the unity…u don’t even have sympathy? u have sympathy for two americans who cannot even prove them self innocent of this case, why did they not allow the mayan people to search their property when they went there, if they were so damn innocent? how much did they pay mariano to take his time in getting a search warrant? why can’t they operate the crocodiles to see if they find human trace? they don’t need no damn evidence,bs…the croc is already dead, all they need to do is operate it, it is not like they are going to kill one of those still alive…i symphatize with the family of these children and it could happen to anyone one. i hope if one day one of your children goes missing you all don’t go into worse scenarios. the maya people are a peaceful people, if mr.rose think they are savages, let him leave, he ain’t needed anyways. i salute the mayan people’s action, prayer walks, vigils and other peaceful demonstrations, like cristina said they cannot be linked to the fire, just as mariano holds the rose’s back and say they cannot be linked to the missing children.
Hal Spry,
You are trying to remove my reality same as you are trying to remove the reality that the Roses do bear some responsibilities for this whole mess by building a croc farm in the middle of Mayan territory.
You reflect everything that is evil in imperialism. You give all the good white people in Belize a very bad name.
You see a cash cow in this tragedy and that is why you can’t give it up.
Treaty, you came on here saying that the people have lost focus on the real issue here, but yet you go on a ranting rampage over the same things that had turned this report into a pile of trash talk and disrespect to each other.
How do you expect anyone to listen to you when you can’t even keep it real?
those people are savages that burnt the man house down,……………………………. get over it.
