In cold blood: husband, wife and son, murdered in Carmelita
‘In cold blood’ is the only way to describe one of the most heinous murders that we have reported in our newscast. While most of the callous crimes are set in the confines of Belize City, this one takes place in the north. On Tuesday night, three family members were found murdered in Carmelita Village. On the family farm at the outskirt of Orange Walk Town, the first victim, a woman, was found murdered in her kitchen. And early this morning, her common-law husband as well as her son were found dead at another location. The cold-blooded way in which the family members were murdered leaves no doubt that the crime wave and social ills are spreading terror beyond the boundaries of the City.

Three family members were brutally murdered in Carmelita Village. The mother was killed in her home while her common-law-husband and son were found and murdered on a farm belonging Hilton Codd Junior, who employed the father.

“Ih mi deh inna di corn field cause ih mi di harvest pepitos and roughly I would ah seh three quarter of a mile from di house.”

“Yesterday evening shortly after six received report of a body on a farm just behind Carmelita. Police proceeded where the lifeless body of a woman was found, later identified to be Carmita Florencia Rivas. Further searches conducted this morning in the same area resulted in the discovery of two additional bodies; that of her common-law Husband, Pantaleon Navarro and her son Carlos Antonio Wagner. The three bodies found so far had extensive injuries basically to the face portions.”
It is not a highly populated area so there are few witnesses and the police are perplexed when it comes to the motive. The cops have also not determined how the family members were killed, but Codd believes they were shot.

“We are in the process of interviewing witnesses and we also are in the process as well of talking to a person of interest to this investigation. Our initial investigation has revealed that the body of the woman was discovered by one of her children coming from school.”
The triple murder has also left the three youngest children of the family displaced.

Police would not confirm a report that the suspect had a previous relationship with Carmita Rivas.
There we go again maybe GOB need to check the dictionary for the meaning of the word RESTORE.Some of you might disagreewith me but Mr Barrow and his ministers are to blame for this.Why can’t this man see that the crime situation is getting worse?can’t the laws be amended to deal with the present crime situation?These guys already know that they are not going to get caught or convicted as a result of witness intimidation.

What are we doing to our children? What could this family have done to deserve to have this child come home to a dead parent only to find that his/her nightmare was just beginning.
It must be something in the air, the whole country has lost its collective mind. Last year one of our sons almost killed his female classmate at UCLA, Many Belizeans showed no empathy for the victim, they screamed bloody murder when one bigot described the villain in racist, unflattering terms. Last week our country men & women burned a man’s business to the ground when they could not chop him up, we got angry because the victim referred to the arsonists as savages.
We are turning our children into psychos with our lawlessness, our refusal to accept responsibility for our wrongdoings. The constant exposure to murder is devaluing theirs & every one else’ lives.
These people give the word savage a new meaning.
No matter what prompted the death of the parents, the boy did not deserved to die the way he did.
That is crazy. I’m literally sickened. This woman was killed in front of her three young children,n it was two if her other kids that found her. How low is that, these kids will forever be traumatized. Somebody knows something, they weren’t random victims. They killed the mother n then went almost a mile away to find the father n son n kill them too. Thank God the three little kids weren’t killed too. The crime vwave has spread, something needs to b done.

This was a planned cold blooded murder, this was not random, this is someone who had a deep hate for these people. This is an outrage. I bet if other countries begin to hold back aid to Belize, teh government will quickly do something.

When I heard this on the news lastnight tear came to my eyes. Who could kill a mother infront of her young children. I feel so sorry for these children they are the ones that will suffer now because their is no one like your mom. These poor children are marked for life. I pray that God look over these children.

The death of this family has really touched my heart and I prayed for the surviving children. Oh how I wish and hope and prayed for our small nation to get recognized and somehow, one day be able to have updated technology available to fascilitate these kind of crimes. I don’t know this family, but I (bawl my eyes out), because I am a Belizean, and thought this magnitude of crime only happens in America and other parts of the world. I am a Christian woman, but definately needs to go int praying for forgiveness, because right now, I cannot find it in my heart to forgive the monster or monsters, they are selfish cowards, it’s unbelievable! My heart goes out to these children. I pray that God’s ministering angels enfolds them always in their safe embrace, and that God will make a way for them. I know He is already making a way for them out of nowhere. Jehovah Necci will lift them up high above those who rose against them and make them into victors. God’s grace WILL sustain them and He WILL vindicate those monsters for this crime. May the victims who succumb to their wounds Rest-In-Peace!…..
This is very, very, very sad…but it seems to me that there is more to this story than we know,who ever did this was out for blood on that family.What’s even more disturbing is that while the mother was being killed, there were other kids in the house including a 10 days old baby…mein we are dealing with some sick individuals. Hope the police can find those responsible for this crime and give the family of the deceased some closure.
I dread reading the Belize news. Everyday there are stories of judicial failure and government corruption all avalanching into a lawless society. I can’t recall a time it was this bad. The problems Belize face seem insurmountable considering the continued lack of effective leadership. Belizeans in the meantime are losing their dignity as they lose control over their society. They deserve better from the men and women who are entrusted with power.
As gun violence, violence against women and children, and violence against the poor continue to escalate, people in decision making positions operate as if they’ve been blindfolded with both hands tied behind their backs. Somehow, there must be a way to remove these lame ducks from office and replace them with folks who actually give a damn, and without having to wait 4-5 yrs to do it.
It’s clear that Belizeans cannot count on the current system to administer justice, protect our liberty and secure our future.

I have long left Orange Walk, but I remember these ppl. I always knew them as hard working, farming ppl. You know the type that only affords to buy the beans and tortilla with some coffee at the store… what wrong can they possibly do to deserve such an execution. But then again, this village has a lot of ppl that are only passing through, stragglers, and I remember this familly, and among many other famillies they would take these ppl up on their houses, feed them and offer them shelter while they were passing through or until they got a job. We can’t be so foolish anymore.. wake up Belizeans!! Don’t be so gullible anymore! Its ok to sleep with a machete under your bed or a gun under your pillow, that’s right I said it, its not the same Belize anymore. If someone comes into your house without permision, shoot first, ask questions later! And that goes for our law enforcement officers too, Who up until now do not know what is the defenition of Private Property!! They did not learn at the academy.
What a horrible end to these victims! This seems like a crime of passion and jealousy! My heart goes out to the family of the deceased. Sorry for these poor innocent children, what will become of them in these hard times. Nothing compares to when a father and mother is around, talking from experience. I pray for them and hope that they receive help because taking care of so many children is no joke especially with the grandparents who are very old. I hope that the monster who did this rots in hell!!

this is the result of having rehab for those murders in jail…this is what they do after having such a good time in jail…because in jail they have a better life than out on the streets…who the hell care if they are sorry for what they did and if they need to have any skills when they come out of jail…they are in jail in the first place because they dont care…

I was watching the news the other day about a young man that was about to be linched, i think it was in Nicaragua, the people took it upon themselves and were taking justice into their own hands. In El Salvador, the government had a death squad that was killing the gang members one one, In Honduras, the government put all the murderers in one building and set the building on fire, In Iraq you thief something they chop off your hand, In Iran you kill they cut off your head, And i can go on and on. I am a belizean living in the united states for many years,and i am hurt ,devastated to know that belize was once known as a haven,but not anymore.The crime wave of murders on a daily, weekly basis has taken over, and the goverment is not doing enough eleviate the situation.First of all the criminals has high profile weapons better than the police which makes more complicated for them.They should bring back hanging to belize, because those murders are getting away to many times.Wow what a horrific and heart breaking story.How could they be so heartless to kill that lady, and walk one mile to kill the husband and the son.Why is the guestion every one is asking?Could you imagine a ten days old baby along with the siblings two ,three, and nine years old without both parents?My deepest stmpathy goes to the entire family,and i which the killers be caught and brought to justice. Police should not be afraid of killers they need to put killers away in prison and for good. That the reason why? we blame the Goverment of Belize they are not supplying sufficient resources to the police officers. police men needs better training so they can do there jobs better and to best of their ability.
yes junny u are rite who is taking the initiative to open an account for these kids. The BTIA open an account for Mr Rose, who Belize don’t know well. And i know that Mr Rose has very good connections in the states, where he can get financial help. Will the BTIA open an account for these unfortunate children too? Why when Americans come to our country we treat them like they are Gods. And when you go to their country they treat us like garbage. Come on people wake up. All that money that was deposited into that account i think that it should be given to those children.
