Highlights of Carnival 2010

The streets were flooded with onlookers and revellers on Saturday afternoon as the mas bands put off a show on the main streets of the city in the carnival road march for 2010. The carnival was smaller than previous years but it is still one of the highlights of the September celebrations. And while it’s fun to watch, for the participating bands it’s the final round of judging. The Belize Carnival Commission officially announced the winners. In the senior category, Mother Nature’s Creation won first place overall with four hundred and fifty-six points. They were followed by Jam Jam Carnival Band, who scored four hundred and thirty-nine points and in third Eternity Mas Band garnered four hundred and six points. In the juniors, Mahogany Masqueraders took the top spot with four hundred and fifty-one points, in second was Jump Street Posse with four hundred and four points and in third place, Pickstock Carnival Band scored four hundred and two points. This station brought you the action live on Saturday, but here’s a look at some of the sights and sounds for those who missed it.

Apart from the winning bands, there was also an award for Road March Song of the Year and that went to Ernestine Carballo.

Nice work people, all the lovely colours of carnivals.
It should not only be about a celebration about carnival thought, it should also be a celebration of life, oneness, and togetherness in Belize.
