A seventy-three year old man was murdered while visiting his children in Belize City last week. While his murder remains unsolved, a sixty year old citizen was gunned down after seven on Sunday morning. Apolonio Salome left his home near the Entrance of Bird’s Isle on his bicycle to buy rice for Sunday dinner, but while riding on West Canal, a gunman shot him once on his temple. He died on the spot. Although one of his sons, Kevin ‘Cowboy’ Alvarez, is charged for the March 2009 murder of Orange Walk Businessman Hui Lin Chen, his daughter believes that his passing is unrelated and is simply a casualty of the senseless violence that is rampant in the city.

“He was riding home from the store. He went to purchase some items early Sunday morning around seven. He was riding on his way home by Prince Street when he was fatally shot and died on the spot.”

“I know in the past few months, you have a couple of people that have been shot in that same area. Do you think it was just where he was or maybe someone wanted to send a message or what? What was it?”

“Well I think, unfortunately for my dad, he was at the wrong place at the wrong time. What happen, he normally would just go to the grocery store a little closer to us here. But on that particular morning, the store wasn’t open as yet so he timed it until seven o’clock but the store wasn’t open so he ventured a little farther.”

“As you are probably aware, many people are wondering if maybe it could be something related to your other brother who is currently detained. You get any messages of this sort?”

“Well honestly, no. We don’t believe there is any kind of relation. Of course, there is a lot of speculation to it. Well my thing to that is then how about all the other senseless murders? Where’s the connection for those—because many people are just dying. I heard an eight year old died. You have another older gentleman who died about a week ago. And at the end of the day with making speculation what happened, the real culprit gets away.”

“Your father, could you tell us a little more about who he was?”

“Well, he was a very old-fashioned guy, loving in his own way, very close to my mom who he’s been with for thirty-five years and my little brother who is twelve years old and they had a very, very close relationship. It is affecting all of us tremendously, but mostly my mother and my little brother.”
Funeral arrangements are pending for Salome. His son Kevin ‘Cowboy’ Alvarez was stabbed on May twenty-eighth, while inside Tango Ten of the Central Prison.

Too many killings in the same fashion to keep calling them random killings.
The man was shot in his temple, which seem to be an intended shot or target to me.
In the last month, within a few blocks at least three lives were taken & about five wounded & with the exception of Ian Arnold,’s murder, no one has been charged.
Obviously these Godless children had no idea that this was the sabbath for most folks but we have to wonder if these thugs sleep in shifts or are they afraid of the city after dark too? They are not even trying to use darkness as a cover anymore & the community needs to understand that snitches are not the only ones ending up in ditches, staying quiet has only made the situation worse.
The sins of the father shall fall on the child, or vice versa, it seems. If this man had no problems with anybody n wasn’t a trouble maker, maybe it was someone trying to get back at his son. Yuh cyaan ketch Harry yuh ketch ih shirt…

she says that her dads death as nothing to do with his brothers killing in orange walk, but listen to what she says that it’s more likely to be a casualty of senseless murders, so it means that what his brother did made sense and it was not a senseless crime also. the saying says that what goes around comes around which means it’s gonna hit you in whatever ways means, hopefully the cowboy feels what the chiny family feels after he killed their one also.

My condolances goes out to the family, what is becoming of Belize…i mean it gets worst every year, worst every day…am ashamed to tell ppl where am from because ppl already look down on this country…ppl are afraid to visit family there any more bacause of whats happening now. If the police doesnt do what they need to do to get the criminals off the stress…Belize will have a grave yard full and no where to put the other left to come.
Now you not even safe in ur own house because they come in to get u…and worst if they cant get u, they hurt someone u love the most; nobody is safe at all… i think that they need to call in ppl from the U.S.A to help them solve the many…many murders that are left unsolve for God know how many years;
Am going to be 18 and i have my whole family there and i keep worring about them because ur not safe in any part of the country of Belize, even the poor tourist are afraid to visit….
