Six weekend murders: 8 yr. Old shot while sleeping in her bed

eyannie nunez

There is no bottom to the abyss to which crime has plunged. Six persons were murdered in the weekend’s wave of terror; four in the city and two in the west. How do you top this new record? There is yet no official comment, but there is general public outrage at the carnage, and we start in the Old Capital where police presence was highly visible for Saturday’s carnival, but in a period of three hours beginning at the crack of dawn on Sunday, hell broke loose and when it was over, four were dead between the ages of eight and sixty years. The gunshots reverberated throughout the City, beginning at four o’clock in the morning and died down shortly after seven. The first victim to be caught in the random murders was an eight year old All Saints student; she was asleep in her bed, when gunfire penetrated the walls of her Zericote Street home. Eyannie Nunez did not live for long; she died at the K.H.M.H. shortly after. News Five’s Isani Cayetano reports.

Francine Pitts, Mother of Murder Victim

“I would like to ask the person who took Eyannie away from me do they have an eight year old daughter or son, a sister or a brother that is her age?  If yes, would you want anyone to chance them out of their life helplessly while sleeping?”

Isani Cayetano, Reporting

The heartbreaking story of eight year old Eyannie Nunez once again underscores the rash of senseless, indiscriminate gun violence that has taken hold of the Old Capital.  Eyannie is the third minor under the age of ten to become an unintended target in Belize City’s rolling urban feud since the beginning of this year.  Like Marquise Mahler, Eyannie was gunned down in a hail of bullets that were meant for a relative.  Her mother, Francine Pitts, recounted the harrowing ordeal that unfolded shortly before dawn on Sunday morning.

Francine Pitts

francine pitts

“About three-forty-five approximately that time that’s when I heard some footsteps but I thought it was my cousin or probably my brother he likes to come because he use to live downstairs so he still has access of his home downstairs.  So anyway I didn’t peep out, I didn’t look but what got my attention is that when I heard the several gunshot and it was so close.  I never knew then that it was the room that they shot after so I fell on the floor and then I went in the room because I know that that’s where my son slept.  So I run and I call out his name and I said to get on the floor, gunshot if you didn’t hear it and he said no.”

But while Pitts’ eldest son did not hear the sound of bullets as they tore through the bedroom of her wooden house her neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, was startled by the rapid succession of gunfire.

Voice of: Neighbor

“I was asleep and the gunshots suddenly awoken me and I jumped off my bed and I, after like a little while later, I heard screaming.  When I heard the screaming it was just like one scream then my mother woke up and she came and saw what was happening.  She heard the gunshot as well.  Like it was like, I heard about like five gunshots.”

Eyannie had also been frightened out of her slumber by the volley of shots.  When it subsided a total of eight bullets had perforated the walls.  She laid in bed mortally wounded next to her three siblings before being discovered by her mother a few seconds later.

Francine Pitts

“The first that I saw was on the bed foot was Eyannie so that’s when I grabbed Eyannie but when I lift her up I felt warmness, like she peed herself.  So I said baby the gunshot got you, I say “you pee yourself sweety?”  So I went and put her on her bed to try to change her.  I said “mommy’s gonna change you baby and everything’s gonna be ok.  So that’s when I, when I turned on the light now that’s when I knew that she got shot.  I see blood start to pouring out her and I just got weak and fell on the floor with her.”

Sadly, the standard one student had been hit once to the upper body, the bullet exiting her left armpit.  The individual the shooters had been looking for, Francine’s younger brother Herman, was nowhere in sight.

Francine Pitts

“They sent a threat that they were going to burn out the house.  When they came I sent message to the same person that bring the message to me, not to me actually, to my cousin that live upstairs and I told them, told him to tell them that I have nothing to do with what they’re talking about, that my brother no longer live here.”

His disappearance from the house he once occupied came days after the family was intimidated by his enemies.  They however, cared less who the occupants of the house were as they opened fire wholesale.  Today Eyannie was being remembered by her peers and homeroom teacher as someone who had a promising future.

Andrea Grinage, Std. 1 Teacher, All Saints School

“Eyannie is a very bright student.  She’s very willing to assist me in anything that I wanted to get done.  She also finished her work on time so [uhm] Eyannie was a very bright student.”

Today the desk that she shared with her classmate was noticeably empty.  Her father, Ian Nunez, who is still coming to terms with his daughter’s murder, was left to stare at her pictures; her mother to find it within herself to absolve her daughter’s killers.

Francine Pitts

“I forgive them and I know my daughter, Eyannie, will forgive them but if only they can tell me there isn’t a God sitting in heaven which I know better, there is one and I will get my justice.  I will see Eyannie’s killer come to life.”

Aren’t you tired of all of this killing of innocents? Everyone knows who the major criminals and gangs are, yet they walk free among us, and they are covered in blood. It’s time to declare war on the gangsters and turn the BDF loose on them. If that doesn’t work, the next step must be vigilante justice, until we can feel our families are well-protected.

Just a handful of animals are holding the country hostage — and dangerous animals should be killed before they kill again.

  2. Earl Grey says:

    …………………….

THEY DON’T ASK THE POLITICIANS WHAT ARE THEY DOING TO KEEP US SAFE???

NO ONE IS BEING HELD ACCOUNTABLE……………………………. Where’s the MAYOR?????????

  3. Ann Rivero says:

This is too much for me to handle at this time , my heart goes out to this family i am so sorry,.but you know what there is a GOD and he is watching your prayers will be answer all in due time.

  4. BZNinCALI says:

No one deserves this, what happened to this little girl is inexcusable but I cannot even begin to imagine the psychological scars left on her siblings who were also sharing the same bed.

As families we will have to start making decisions that are in our children’s best interest & force our relatives who are inviting trouble into our lives to seek shelter elsewhere.

  5. MADDYVANDIJK/DEREALIST says:

Today we will mourn the loss of some of our children again; but those who have died are now free of the bloodshed and slaughter in dangerous Belize.

We can blame the GOB again for all the recent killings, but sadly it won’t bring back this innocent child or heal a mother’s heart. We must hold the animal accountable for this killing alone, we must find him and we must punish this animal, severely and without mercy.

Since the uncle of the victim knows his enemies I hope that he is not such of a coward to go to the police.

    RIP Eyannie:

  6. Nikki says:

What????? This one brought tears to my eyes, I can not begin to imagine how that mother feels….I believe Eyannie is in a better place….such a beautiful child taken by the continued senseless killings

  7. Patriot says:

A limited state of emergency should be declared in Belize City. This would allow for a suspension of fundamental rights so that known criminal elements can be flushed out. The criminals have declared war on the peaceful Belizean way of life; it’s time that we rise up and declare war on them. Please Mr. PM stop your postering and do your job. How many more children have to die? ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!

  8. Elgin Martinez says:

I’ve said it numerous times on this blog that unless GOB makes some amendments to our laws to deal with the present crime situation nothing is going to change. These guys are not afraid to take people’s life as a result why is GOB afraid hang them. The PM needs to have a press conference or something to address the Nation on the crime situation.

  9. rod says:

see there you go 6 more murders while our pm was on miami beach well i really dont know how you can sleep at night yes you didnt pull the trigger but you mightas well have this is why its no time to be taking vacations every other month you need to start taking care of the people of belize and if you cant or refuse to do it then resign and give the post to someone who will do somthing about crime .am telling you you must not maybe you must bring back the hanging penalty you better hope nothing happens to one of my family members not one word from this pm its amazing not one word from this whole useless gov. wow are these people living in belize are they all blind or they are so out of touch that they cannot see the light of day hang them hang them now i guess we belizeans are going to have to do this ourselves pm go back to miami please stay there for good this time belize is not for you.

  10. Edith says:

This is pass senseless. No use calling out to the government. Why r people turning to guns to settle their differences. I know Francine n this story made my heart overflow in pain. How can someone disregard the importance of a child’s life. Another BABY taken way ahead of her time. Maybe the community needs to do a shut down in solidarity like the Chinese community did. Maybe a state of emergency has to b declared. Maybe government needs to put a curfew in effect. Maybe, maybe, maybe. The only thing that’s not a maybe is that Eyanne is gone n nothing will bring her back – EVER! Belizeans need to stand up n the senseless killers should b ashamed of themselves – let’s pray to God for Belize, cause nobody else is listening!

  11. rod says:

also i call on all news organizations to bring to bare pressure on this pm and gov. to address this situation ,you have not been doing enough eighter so lets get with it news 5 be a leader again hound this pm and gov. give them no peace. again while belizeans are dying in the streets this pm was in miami and elsewhere this pm is pathetic ,impotent . belize is a free for all now well guess what pm since you havent ever or your too proud to give your condolances to the families of these murdered victims ill teach you how its done my condolences go out to all the families that have been torn apart by these senseless murders i hope you can find some confort somewhere , this is what happens when there is a lawless society and a useless leader i say everyone affected by these murders should start suing this pm and this gov. for incompetence and corruption. whenever a gov. cannot or protect the lives of their citizens then thay should be booted out imediately and replaced by a gov that has to spine and the will to protect itspeople .

  12. Soh Jah Seh says:

I really can’t imagine this heart wrenching event for this mother, innocent eight year old lost her life because of the hatred that is going on in the hearts of these criminal factions in our society, there are many who knows these people such as their family and friends, we are appealing to you to turn them in to the law if you want to see a peaceful society, if you do condone this type of senseless killings of innocent people at the hands of your family and friends then be prepared to grieve for them because their time is at hand. One way or another tide will turn against these criminals. Time is ripe.

  13. Di Arana says:

My heart goes out to Francine. She was my hairdresser when I was living in Belize and I knew Eyannie from before birth.. It is heart wrenching to see how violence has escalated in this country and the government sitting on their ….. and not tackling the problem. How many more of our young innocent children have to die before some thing gives. Come on government of Belize do something.

  14. dajewel says:

omg dis brought tears to my eyes!! where the hell is the PM????????????

  15. misslady says:

My God, this beautiful baby had to suffer innocently. Who is listening to the cries of the people? To the mother of Eyannie: I feel for you. This is sorrow your family didn’t deserve. She is in a better place now wherever it is that angels go.

  16. bruce says:

Are there any real grown ups in Belize? Someone to set an example? someone to show you how to problem solve? someone to show you cause and effect how to roll play? LIKE would you like it if I did that to you?!?!

YOU NEED to put a curfew 9 PM to 6 AM and get those American solders from Iraq who can train you for house to house combat OR as it is called urban WARfare THIS WARFARE NEEDS to be addressed as it IS rampant on the streets of Belize city.
Like about a year ago two Canadian girls robbed on the island!!! OK you got their stuff BUT that is not enough NO NO NO the robber now turns terrorist and has to CUT THESE WHITE WOMEN so they can tell everyone what a wonderful time they had on their vacation!!!

IF YOU ARE ABLE YOU DO THE MATH

  17. belizeanpride says:

with all the cries of all of us belizean and the gov cannot or simply don’t have time to listen to us lets not parade for independence but stay home and make the p.m see we’re serious about the crime issue, i feel proud to be a belizean but if i have to make a stand i would for the sake of all those dead due to crime and make history once and for all that on a independence day there was no parade due to crime in belize. should we do something more drastically so the gov. can see what we’re asking for?

  18. Elgin Martinez says:

PM Barrow the Jewel is bleeding will you ever get it?What are you waiting for to take a stands? How many more of our people got to get kill for this incompittent government to realize that there will be no light at the end of the tunnel until they get some cohones.

  19. Franscisco Patt says:

You know what I blame the Politicians. They have the Police Department so messed up and demoralized that the police themselves are afraid of enforcing the law. Police Officers are human beings and they are afraid of the criminals, they are afraid of the Government’s Victimization. If you all could remember Chester Williams, when he was in the City he had the City under lock but because they calsiffied him as a PUP he along with real hard working crime fighters were victimized and moved out of the City, things got our of control. The politicians along with Broaster fabricated a story that Williams killed Germaine Fuentes. Fuentes is alive. We have to ask ourselves why is it that the real hard working police officers were moved out of the City. Who is benefitting from crime, human trafficking, drug trafficking? Belize is a Haven for Criminals. More people will die because the beef is getting personal and more personal as days go by. Bring back real police officer with backbone to confront and fight crime. There are officers within the police force that could make a difference.

  20. TRUEBELIZEANINNY says:

    DEAR PRIME MINISTER BARROW,
I KNOW THAT IT TAKES A GREAT DEAL OF EFFORT TO RUN YOUR ADMINISTRATION. I KNOW THAT EVERY THING MUST FALL HEAVILY ON YOU . I ALSO KNOW THAT IT’S VERY EASY TO BE OUT OF THE SITUATION AND TO SUGGEST WHAT CAN AND SHOULD BE DONE. I’VE LISTENED TO MR.RAMOS AND OTHERS SPEAK OUT ON THE SITUATION, AND NOW MY QUESTION TO YOU IS ” HOW LONG?, HOW LONG?”. HOW MUCH OF THIS CAN FAMILY COPE WITH? THE YOUTHS ARE THE FUTURE OF THE COUNTRY, MR.P.M. DO NOT SIT BACK AND LET THERE BE A BIG GAP BETWEEN THE SENIORS AND UP COMING YOUTH BECAUSE THERE’LL BE NO ONE TO LEAD OR GOVERN.
I DO HEAR THE CRIES FOR CURFEW WHICH COULD STEM SOME OF THE NIGHT STALKING BUT, WHAT ABOUT THE BROAD DAYTIME KILLINGS? I THINK THAT CRIMINALS REALIZE THAT THE SYSTEM HAS A REVOLVING DOOR WHERE IT’S EASY FOR THEM TO GO AND RELAX AND PLAN THE NEXT VENTURE. CRIMINALS ARE GETTING TOO MANY SLAP ON THE WRIST . ” DESPERATE TIMES CALLS FOE DESPERATE MEASURES”. HUMAN RIGHTS IS FOR LAW ABIDING CITIZENS BUT, IT SEEMS THE CRIMINALS HAS ALL THE RIGHTS. ISN’T THERE A LAW ON YOUR BOOKS CONCERNING THE RIGHTS OF CRIMINALS? CRIMINALS ARE TO PAY FOR THEIR CRIME, IF YOU NEED TO BUILD ANOTHER PRISON, YOU HAVE ENOUGH PRISONERS TO BUILD THERE OWN CELLS AND THEIR RIGHTS AFTER IS TO BE HANGED UNTIL THEY’RE DEAD! DEAD! DEAD. SLAUGHTER HOUSES COULD HOUSE THEM UNTIL THEIR NUMBER COMES UP OR AN AUCTION AS TO WHO WILL BE NEXT. YOU NEED THE MACCABEES LAW AND THEN YOU ANSWER TO H.R.A LATER.
MR. PRIME MINISTER, I HAVE AN IDEA, SINCE THE WITNESSES ARE BEING WIPED OUT BEFORE JUDGEMENT AND, EVERYONE IS SCARED OF COMING FORWARD, AND RIGHTLY SO, HOW ABOUT SETTING UP A SPECIAL P.O.BOX WHERE WITNESSES WOULD BE ABLE TO JUST WRITE IN TO SAY WHAT THEY SEE OR KNOW, EACH LETTER IS GIVEN AN IDENTIFYING NUMBER AND BATCHED LIKE WISE TO SEE HOW OFTEN CRIMINALS ARE IDENTIFIED AND THEN, WHO CARES IF THEY DO NOT HAVE A JURY OF THEIR OWN PEERS? DO THEY GIVE ANY INNOCENT PERSON A CHANCE? MAYBE YOU SHOULD UP ON YOUR DEPORTEES, NOT TO SAY THAT THEY ARE CRIMINALS BUT, BRING THEM TO THE THRESHING FLOOR AND SEPARATE THE WHEAT FROM THE SHAFT SO THAT THEY HAVE TO REPORT TO SOMEONE AT ALL TIMES, THEIR MOBILITY SHOULD BE LIMITED, ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT.
MR. PRIME MINISTER LAST BUT NOT LEAST, IF YOU NEED OUTSIDE INTERVENTION, YOU SHOULD ASK FOR IT, IF NOT THEN YOU SHOULD ARM YOUR CITIZENS AND SAY WELCOME TO DODGE CITY, LET THE PEOPLE HELP THEMSELVES. PEOPLE, IF YOU KNOW YOUR FAMILY MEMBER IS DOING WRONG SEND A LETTER TO THE PM MINUS YOUR NAME AND GIVE HIM ALL THE HELP HE CAN GET AND LETS SEE WHAT HE WILL SAY OR DO NEXT!

  21. gen p says:

you know that as a belizean it is a shame to tell people how violent your country is. I always thought if we got a black prime minister that our country would be better, but to tell you the truth it gotten worse. mr barrow what are you doing for our country. when the other prime ministers were in power we never had this much crime, what are you doing. get it together dont go down as one of the worse prime minister we had as a black man

  22. Western Spirit says:

it think its high time that authorities get rid of a lot of those idle people walking the streets of Belize City. i cold remember when Curfew was an effective way of combating crime, only the police and BDF should be out after 10 pm anyone who do not have a legitimate reason to be out there should be dealt with, no breaks. the media should stop burn fire on the police it time for ruff n tuff, time to take back control and eradicate those people who think they have the right to play GOD. We need a death squad. the law must change that anyone who goes to prison MUST do hard labour, we are to light on this matter. Start an eradication program get rid of the problem. school should be able to punish students how they see fit without outside interference.

  23. Al says:

Mr. Barrow, even your partner was tuched by this awful cancer of killing, please get some help from an outside source to help change the direction of the country. The criminals are the owners of the coutry now, it is time to take it back. Bring back teh cowards, without their guns the cowards will wet their pants at the end of a rope. It is time to get tough unless you are afraid of them also.

  24. Carlton says:

The murder of an innocent child ; Eyannie Nunez, a Standard 1 student and asleep in her bed is truly very sad. May she rest rest in peace. The perpetrators of this crime must be caught and severely punished.

  25. deedee says:

So sad what happen to this little angel…my condolences goes out to her Francine & rest of the family who is mourning this unexpected and tragic loss.

  26. Proud says:

find dem and kill dem on the streets…they have no pitty…RIP little one.

  27. JC says:

    LET’S START HANGING SOME PEOPLE.

  28. Coralblack says:

Uhnuh stop it. Remember South of Belize sits on an earthquake fault line called the Caribbean Plates. That fault line also link to the San Andreas Fault line in Southern California. It run west coast
Guatemala Mexico shores, and cut across south of Guatemala, Hounduras, Belize, out into the caribbean sea. The way things are going on in Belize can surely trigger that type of event. This Earth
is our mother, it’ alive and when these type of things goes one she feel it. So uhnuh please stop it.
for the children them, YHWH Shalome.

  29. Newser says:

Excellent reporting by Isani Cayetano. Well done. Professionally done, yet rings with emotion. Made me tear up.

  30. orlando Hernandez says:

Set up a curfew. Authorize the Dragon Unit to take all measures. People with tattoos should be shot after dark then questioned about their breathing. This will clear the bloody mess. Gangs think they own the land. They do not own the land, they don’t own anything, they are not afraid of death because they are already dead. Exterminate the varmints!!!!! Parents condoning the act arrested for harboring and put into jails to do hard labor. It is the result of poor parenting that has caused this situation.

Censor TV shows, cartoon and novelas, censor the sale of violent movies, cut down on the sale of alcoholic beverages and rum. Introduce educational material on the Television to make us wiser and productive. Immigration step up, there are many illegals in the country. how to find out, organize trips abroad invite villages and determine who can cross the border legally, you will be surprised to know that there will be many that cannot produce a passport or a local ID. I know. And I agree with the comment above, let us monitor the deportees and also our Anglo friends that come here to our jewel dressed in the proverbial sheep skin.

Officers of the law, let us be professionals and unafraid of victimization, let us show that we have good principles and if we cannot stand up to defend our principles then we do not belong in the police force. In fact, if we cannot defend our good principles we do not belong at all. The criminals stand up to their principles and to arrest these we also need to stand up to our morals.

  31. Coralblack says:

I have 2 daughters and another one one the way. Every living man, woman came from a; wo-man
and this hurt me. People who do them type a thing ya nuhh bad, them tha cowards, because dahh
only we own people weh the hurt. The little ones them the suffer. Stop it.

  32. Proud says:

We have eradication programs agains bugs and other living things that destroy our crops, yet we can not come up with an eradication program to GET RID OF THE PEST DAT DESTROYS OUR YOUTHS, OUR CHILDREN AND ELDERS. MR. PM, its a shame on you. If you have no knowledge on how to take this country forward, step down. O no tienes bien puestos los cojones??

  33. ASa says:

put the police and BDF after these criminal. condolences goes ot to the family.

  34. Proud says:

Francisco Patt. I really like you comment and I share your opinion that there are many hard working policemen that can make a difference. If it wasnt for the stupid politicians that interfere, Belize City and Belize would be a better place.

  35. Belizean Outraged says:

its high time we get militant in our country, screw the notion of we can’t figh violence with violence I say we import some mercenaries and snipers and wipe out these so called gangsters who are killing out our citizens and our future..we all know who the are.. everyone does it’s no secret.. the police, the gob, no one is doing anything, we’re all sitting back waiting for something.. for what? for more children to be murdere? no, curfew is good, state of emergency ok, but set an example, show them who the real gangsters are.. wipe out that one “block” to start with and pop a few of their necks and lets see what happens next..

  36. LoriAnna says:

All of this crime makes me not want to come back to my friends and property .. you can lose your life at anytime there .. for no reason.. the citizines need to rise up and start shooting the monsters running around taking lives as the police are doing nothing and innocent people keep dying

  37. letsgetreal says:

I say that the ceremonies for the 21 is for GOB to showcase to the world and to its citizens what a good job they have done for the past year. I think we should all BOYCOTT these ceremonies on the 21. who will really benefit from BTL being transferred to SSB. Lawyers and Bankers not the common man, our NHI benefits are being cut as we speak. There is nothing to celebrate. we should be mourning for our fallen children, parents and grandparents in this war. NO SCHOOL SHOULD MARCH , send a message to GOB that we have had enough. lets have a day of reflection, fasting , praying lets dress in black on the 21. Let PM Barrow and his Ministers get the sense. enough is enough

  38. Restructure says:

    Dear PM Barrow,
We Belizeans are now all living in fear. As much as we wish, comfort will not bring back lives that have gone wasted in blood.
Is it time for civil justice? If so, please announce it to all of Belize, and we will gear up and fight the war.
Curfew at 11:00pm for a full week, will not cost you as much as loosing a priceless beauty like this, or the pain of a mother’s heart.
We need no more pain, we need joy, such as after 11 pm the bdf blast away the gangs that remain on the street.
It might sound harsh, but what to do? I don’t want to loose my daughter like this mother did. WAY to painful!

    Thankyou for your Consideration

    Belizean

  39. A Christian says:

It hurts to see my beloved Belize as a war zone. So many people dying, regardless of who it is and yet we have no authority that can help us or protect us. It is time that we belizeans open our eyes and put an end to this. When will we understand that we are Belize and the prime minister along with all the ministers and the people in charge of our security- they all work for us! We put them there and we can remove them, fire their …!
For now, we need to start to “remove/ eliminate” (sorry to say but its out of control) all this killers and gangsters that are bringing this violence in our society. We are the ones out there and we know who these people are; the authorities are not acting and we need to do something now!!!!!!!
Let us all- Good and honest Belizeans- pray that this stops and since not everything is divine, we need to act as well!

  40. MACAL RIVERA says:

when dem bway when learn that when they get involve in illegal actvivities they put their entire family at risk, its so sad for eyannie, she did’nt deserve this, all I can say is families have to come togheter and put a stop to all this nadness, I bet it a 17 years old who did this, but my question is , where do the guns come from????
as a law abiding citizens of this country if somebody come and offer me one million dollar to go and shoot out a house or a person, I could never do that even if I am hungry, cause people lives are important to me, so why these families condone what their son are doing, common parents put a stop to all this, talk to your children, it such a pity smokey joe is not around anymore, that man had wisdom, and he was right, parents it eleven oclock where are your children.

    Its time to start hanging!!

  41. living good in the usa says:

Crimes is every where in the world Mexico in one of the worst. Belizean need to behave their self act like peolpe with dignity an you people quit killing each other. These people know that law would not do nothing to them. There is nothing else we can say about crimes in belize. We know at times we lose control but we need to how to control our anger. IF would only look in the bible and see what god says about killing.Proverbs 6; 16-19 says”There are six thing that god hate and yes seven things are detestable to his soul. Loft eyes, a false tongue, and hands that are shedding innocent blood a heart fabricating hurtful schemes, feet that are in hurry to run to badness, a false witness that launches firth lies and anyone sending forth contention among brothers.’

I can keep on and on with bible scriptures their is one things i want to stress you to people have love among you all teach others that does not have the time understanding.

  42. Bernabe Burgos says:

Perhaps it is stime to clean the country secretely. Fellow belizeans for the first time in our history we beging to visualize the reasons why our neighbouring countries have had to resort to death squads at times thus finally accepting that we are at the bottom of the ladder as a people. Ethics has stopped existing in Belize.

  43. roska says:

fooolss…… the crime wavew will never go away unless… we as citizens take back our streets and neighborhoods…..and we become better parents so as not to continue creating killers in our families…. NO PM, NO GOB, NO OUTSIDE HELP will be more efficient than we the people taking back our country from these ……………….!!!

Bring in the Belizean version of the PEPES!!!

  44. Elgin Martinez. says:

This is no fault of the Police Department because even if the police arrest whom ever is responsible, there will still be no conviction as a result of witness intimidation. So the problem is with the people up in the higher echelon. Why can’t we all see that.Furthemore the Police officer is just there to enforce the laws at the end of the day these guys are just taking orders from thesame corrupted leaders.

  45. belizeanpride says:

that’s exaclty what i was saying earlier “letsgetreal” boycott the parade in solidarity with the families of crime victims that has our nation scared to walk free in the streets of our nation. let the ngo’s help us also boycott the parade and stand for our rights so the gov. can listen and see our concerns for security.

  46. DISILLUSIONED says:

Edith, you have a great idea. And Channel 5, please don’t let this story die down until we see justice for Eyannie. Imagine a child sleeping at home in her bed with her family. Her siblings will be scarred for life! Again, I called on the social services to render assistance in counseling for them as the mother is only asking for that. She’s not seeking revenge or financial assistance, but she’s worried about the lifetime scar that will be left on Eyannie’s siblings.

I made a comment a few days ago suggesting that we turn the parades of this celebration into meaningful protests. I don’t see why we should be jumping up and celebrating with these Ministers on our Independence Day when we will probably be burying more sons, daughters, children and granddads before the celebrations finish. Here’s a part of the comment that I posted last week:
Belizeans, we better take our heads out of the sand and start to realize that Belize has become one of the least desirable places to live in at this point. Let’s not pretend that it is the same paradise we grew up in, and let’s start doing something positive and effective to save it. GOB has turned its back on us and I cannot express how deeply disappointed I am in the UDP because they fooled us real well! Let’s force these well pampered, luxury SUVs – riding, ELECTED PUBLIC SERVANTS to do the job they were voted to do. The same job they promised us when they were campaigning, nothing more!

Here’s an idea for start: Instead of jumping up in our celebration parades, side by side with politicians from both parties, who have repeatedly failed us and raped our Jewel, let’s show them how we really feel about what they’ve managed to accomplish: Let’s get out all those MANY PROTEST POSTERS, and take them to the celebrations, and show them how we really feel about our Jewel’s:
    1. FAILED JUSTICE SYSTEM,
    2. CORRUPT LAW ENFORCERS,
    3. USELESS MINISTERS OF POLICE,
    4. FAILED PUBLIC HEALTH AND EDUCATION SYSTEMS,
    5. SHAMELESS, UNAPOLOGETIC NEPOTISM,
    6. LACK OF PUBLIC SAFETY,
    7. DIRTY and POORLY LIT STREETS (safe haven for criminals)
    8. OVERPAID CONTRACT WORKERS (CRONIES)
    9. DILAPIDATED CITY (depressing, unappealing to tourists and locals)
    10. UNSAFE HIGHWAYS, ETC.
Yes, I’m talking about turning the celebrations into a meaningful PROTEST and don’t even bother telling me there’s a time and place for everything, as this is as patriotic as any of our traditional September event. What we will be doing here, is to truly, RESTORE BELIZE AND SAVE BELIZE!

I agree with Letsgetreal our schools should BOYCOTT the 21st parade we should make it a day of prayer for our young childern that has been murdered innocently. School should stand up and protest because its our children lives that are being taken away. That poor baby was in her bed sleeping. She was in her home where she should be safe. It seems like there is nowhere safe in my beautiful Belize anymore. What is our new Minister of Police doing to combat the crime what is our Minister of education doing our minister of Youth Our Prime Minister. I am imagining the Possibilites that these murders are lined up down town Belize and with a firing squad facing them ready to aim.

I agree with declaring a “state of emergency” on Belize. We need to solicite help from CARICOM or the UN. Our law enforces are not making any waves. I belive a petition with some 1000 suignatures will get the attention of the UN. This is not a natural disaster but it is a “disaster” none the less.
