Corozal Mayor says they are prepared for TS Karl
As we told you, Tropical Storm Karl is fast approaching the north of Belize where heavy rains and gusts are expected and can cause flooding. We spoke a short while ago to the Corozal mayor, Hilberto Campos, who is teaming up with NEMO preparing for tonight’s storm. The preparations are now in full gear and residents are advised to stay calm.
Hilberto Camps, Mayor, Corozal Town (via phone)
“At two-thirty this afternoon, we had a NEMO emergency meeting. We called all the heads of departments—all the committees, sub-committees, everyone in place and we practically had a brief discussion of the position of the weather and we have everybody on call. We briefly reviewed all our emergency plans with the individual committees and everything is in place. We just have our eyes open right now and we are keeping our eyes on the weather. The evacuation will be happening in certain—we have the areas marked off already which are the prone flooded areas—which include areas like Sarteneja, Consejo, Chunox, Caledonia and probably a few others which are the areas that are prone to flooding. The entire committee is in effect right now, its waiting. We are just monitoring the system and if the needs call we have the proper committees in place. We have the transport committee which will be providing transportation and of course we have the shelter managers everyone alerted already and on the lookout for the weather, for this storm. We have already issued a release on the radio but it’s just a preliminary discussion that we had. We are not alerting anyone to evacuate or anything as such. So it is just a matter of looking out for the weather.”

nice work mayor really caring for his people.
If UDP had people like Hilberto Campos then things would work out much better. Less talk and more work. Congratulations Mayor Campos. Unfortunately we have people in the UDP team that impress us with words but NO action.
Should hit Belize and wipe out some of the crime….
Dats not cool Rizzo, because the weather has nothing to do with the movements of criminals. Now if you mean it in a comedic way, example you are thinking that the breeze gonna blow the old zinc off the house roof and cut off all the bad pewple neck—then I can click enter just before I roll over to my fridge laughing hysterically just before I crack the neck of Samuel Adams….haha-haaaaaathyybcghaaaaaaaahahaaa
Like every one else comment, I say good job for mayor Hilberto Campos. It about time some one had ba….. to do what is rite for the people.
