Indian Community joins protest
Fully on board with Belizeans for Justice is the entire Indian community in Belize City, which will not open for business on Thursday. Head of the Indian Community, Arun Hotchandani, says the decision was taken after the community decided they would close to protest the recent spate of murders.
Arun Hotchandani, Counsel General Indian Community
“We’re gonna be closing in sign respect of the little girl who was eight years old who passed away and also in respect to all those people who fell to crime as a victim. It is just in due respect to them that we would offer our contribution, our input. This is a national problem, it’s not a party politics problem and everybody needs to do their share. I discussed it with many of the community leaders and we gave them the two options of during the funeral or the full day and most of them voted for the full day.”
Yolanda Schakron, Founder, Belizeans for Justice
“This message is being sent to our leaders, this message is being sent to the criminals that we will not tolerate it anymore, this message is being sent to everybody because what we want to show, that we are united and we will come together as a people and we’re determined to quell or stop this crime wave weh di affect us in the city right now, inna this country. We are not politically affiliated with no parties, I must say that. So I think this is just the first step that we are taking. We intend to continue the pressure. We want to see a whole change in the judicial system; we want to see more resources for the police department. We want to se more conviction so that murderers noh di walk out deh free and the commit the crimes over and over again.”
As far as we know, the Asian community will remain open, as will Brodies and the San Cas group of companies because they claim they need more time for logistic purposes. Other companies that will remain closed are Belize Western Energy Limited, Gas Tomza Limited, Southside Butane, Brown’s Butane, Philip Neal’s Butane, and Southern Choice Butane Limited.
Belizeans need to put in their two cents but keep their change in their pockets. Buy nothing. Whether or not the Chinese merchants join in the shut down does not change the fact that we need to reclaim our city. We are the majority, we are the ones who keep bleeding, do what we have to do & eventually the rest will follow.
We have to hold parents responsible for their children’s actions & prosecute them when they allow their children to use their homes as a base for their illegal activities.
i applaude yolanda for the job she is doing a woman standing up against crime speaking for the people and the victims wow PM BARROW YOU SHOULD LEARN FROM THIS WOMAN SHE HAS MORE SPINE AND BACKBONE IN ONE LITTLE FINGER THAN YOU HAVE IN YOUR WHOLE BODY OOOOOO BUT I FORGOT YOU ARE NOT OLIVER TWIST YOU ARE OLIVER BARROW THE ONE WHO IS TOO PROUD TO BEG FOR ASSISTANCE FROM ANYONE OR ANYCOUNTRY THE SAME ONE WHO HAS YET TO COME OUT AND GIVE YOUR CONDOLANCES TO ALL THE FAMILIES WHOSE SONS OR DAUGHTERS HAVE BEEN MURDERED ,AND WHERE IS YOUR WIFE IN ALL THIS IS SHE TOO PROUD ALSO WHAT KIND OF LEADERS ARE YOU MAYBE YOU DONT EVEN KNOW WHATS HAPPENING IN THE COUNTRY SINCE YOU ARE NEVER HERE YOU MUST KNOW MORE ABOUT WHATS HAPPENING IN MIAMI THAN BELIZE SAD SAD SAD. PITIFULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL LEADERSHIP
Shame on Brodies,San Cas and the Asian Community for not supporting this cause.Apparently it’s business as usual for them.
It is nice to see there is some kind of solidarity in the community but just a bit too fragmented to really mean much, I think if there should be any real changes then the entire community needs to come together as one not Chinese on one side, Indians on one side, Creoles on one side but the entire community acting together as a whole only then can it be meaningful enough to effect changes. Crimes in a community affects everyone.
I applaud the Indian Community for their support and dissappointed to see the Chinese Community fall back.
i am a belizean living in the U.S and its hurting me like i am sure many others living abroad. i am not their but i stand with all belizeans everywhere!i grew up in belize in the 80s i was very poor but safe! i am amaze to see and hear of all the crime in tiny beautiful belize. i am sad for her and ALL who live there. we ALL need to come together in protest of All the senseless crime. if we separate ourself by race or whatever, as a country we will all continue to perish. the next step is to come together, all race of people. because it should be clear to ALL that the majority of the killings in belize is random and oppotunistic and no one is safe. and most importantly in everything we do we desperately need to put GOD FIRST!
I am a belizean living abroad and I do agree with what rootsman says. Belize needs for all races and people to come together. I congratulate the Indian Community. Chinese community, how many of you have been killed and you still say No? Brodies and San CAs? What more time do you need? for someone in your family to die too? Hey, I am of no political party but what is the government doing to stop all this crime? Do you see police guarding the city at all hours? My God, how many more deaths do you need? It is plain outrageous! People are afraid to go to belize now. Belize will be a country apart from the whole world? What is this? Government, and community, all must do something….each one what it corresponds…..My God…..and where are these criminals getting these arms from???? Very good question…..God save Belize….
Belize is becoming ripe for a left wing military government to takeover and institute marshal law and depriving the ” have nots” of their basic rights. Anyone that have the resources would flee like drowning rats on a sinking ship. That would be the people with money and Belize will become even poorer and destitute. Whoever is left would carry the brunt of being poor in a poor country. I am a belizean living in the US and it is painful to witness what Belize has become since Igrew up and left in 1970.
The initiative taken by “Belizeans for Justice” should be highlighted everyday on our media for atleast one full month. I believe the efforts should also be focused as well. For instance, a call to the Judiciary for solutions. They have the answers. They KNOW fully well what needs to be done to strengthen the judicial sysyem which is failing us miserably.
As a show of continued and extended solidarity and to express the state of affairs that Belize City is in, I suggest that the in the 21st day parade, we fly a black flag beside every Belizean flag and beside any political party flag. The world must know where we stand in this regard.
The problem about crime is Belize is drugs!!! And nobody wants to say it because they are all involve in it. thus this a non-ending stories of crime until the anti-drug unit gets involve and redirect the route of drugs that pass through Belize. Thats a fact!! people kill because they owe each other for drugs in one way or the other.
Why havn’t the PM came out to denouce the senseless murder of this eight year old?
of course Brodies, San cas group of companies will remain open. Their business are not being targetted, why should they worry no one from their family are being gun down. So why should they shut down. They are worrying about all the millions they are making in this country. A message to all belizeans dont go and buy from them, dont support their business if they are not going to be in support for our country. This is nonsense what is happening. Out innocnet kids are being killed, this is not fair. My kids were terrified when the shooting happen in form of holy redeemer. What if it was during lunch time for them u know what would hv been the outcome of that entire situation. Its time to bring in corporal punishment into this country. Its time to start hanging people, so they get the sense and stop all this ….. Our peacefull little belize is getting to be the worst and that is because out population is so little. Come on belizeans its time to take back our country. Its time to bring back Belize to what it was. A wonderful place to live and want to be. Leaders of this country, its time to do something to make our country a better place. Its in your hands. Place all the police and BDF and every corner or the streets. Keep peolple off the streets. A lot of the time u see so may guys hanging in front of chineese stores. Come on our kids have to go buy there. No one loitering should be allowed. its time to do something about this. Its time for our police offcers take their job serious. you are being paid by tax payers to protect us not to make our country a fairful place to be. Come on, people once used to fill the streets of Belize for the september celebrations and it used to be a very festive time that everyone would look forward to now no one wants to go out. Everybody is fairful of having their kids not knowing what can happen out there. So really and truely people prefer to make a bar b que and stay and home with friends or even go over the border to chetunal and have a wonderful time. Come on leaders step up and do your duty that u were put there to do. Let me tell u that belizeans will get tired and take matters in their own hands. They will start riots and senseless things will start happening and our poeple will take matters in their own hands. Cause i as a parent if something ever happens to my children like i tell u i wont care. Let me stop cause its upseting me. Belizeans make Belize a better place for our children!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!NOW NOW NOW NOW
Belize wake up or should i say the politicans an the justice system you are failing us as a pple u need to make a stand enough is enough we are tired of teh violence that has taken over out counntry baby eyannie nunes was a senceless murder her life was taken aways from her her family the country iff this story dont get u nothing else will an u done deserve to live please we need help in teh justice system sleep onn baby eyannie nunes god love u so do I
stay focus people, the enemy is the criminal element, not Brodies or San Cas, business is already at an all time low and closing for a day means no sales but employees still need to be paid. How much Bzeans does the Indian comunity employ. lets redirect our focus on the criminals, NO JUMP UP, NO CITIZENS PARADE on the 21 A national day of Mourning and prayers for our murdered children, fathers and grandparents.
UNITED WE WILL STAND………….. DIVIDED ….. WE WILL FALL.
YOLANDA ……….. IS THE LEADER of the Belizean “TEA PARTY” !!!!!!!
on the west all the Chines stores are close today .. also our business is close for today.. we need to join hands and start making Belize a safer place.. lets make the change.. its our responsibility..
we are Belize.
These things that are going on are all planned . Respect to those who are willing
to sacrifice their own safety, and their family safety for this cause. I find it real sicking though,
when i here people talk, like they really care for the children. First off, these guns that are in the
streets, especially in poor communities are not made there, so how they got their in the first
place, when most of these youths can’t even get a Visa to fly out the country. Children are a product of their home and community. {The fruit always fall next to the tree}. (There are a lots of things that are going on in this world, not only Belize, that a lot of people are afraid to talk about, because they don’t want to loose their jobs, or get Blacklisted by the so called governments). So stand up for (Right) fully and not partially, because these Dracons are trying to exterminate uh nuh bloodline. (A Coward dies a thousands death but a Warrior can never die). (Courage Justice Peace and Love to All). YHWH Nissi
The killings will never stop in Belize; it might slow down to a crawl if the punishment for a murder is extreme, but stop, hell no.
Unfortunately a young child lost her life to the violence that continues to plague Belize, but don’t expect the Pm to come out to make public announcements every time someone gets kill in Belize. After all, the PM would be in trouble with the people again for ignoring his daily duties, or commitments to his country.
We don’t need a speech again; we need to see stiffer punishments for these cold hearted killers.
OMG. A Belizean Tea Party supporter. What is the world coming to?
Its simple; apparently the police aren’t doing their job good so have the military take over these bandits, and criminals. Don’t lock them down, but shoot them dead!
Sick and tired of all the crapp going on in our beautiful country!
I applaud the businesses for being supportive by closing but lets be realistic do you really believe that the murderers of Belize really care how often businesses close, they don’t shop anyway they rob what they want from us and when we don’t give it to them they kill us so do they really need shops and businesses open NO. I honestly thought Mr. Barrow was going to handle this problem but obviously since no Barrow have been robbed or murdered what does he care, his job is to make sure they all stay rich and live the good life and I must say he is doing well at that job so GOOD JOB MR. BARROW……….GOOD JOB!!!!!!!!!!!
KEEP APPLYING PRESSURE MS SCHAKRON. CHANGE WILL COME, IT’S AT A SNAIL’S PACE RIGHT NOW, BUT IT WILL COME..
TIME FOR A VIABLE AND SERIOUS 3RD PARTY.
yeah exactly making excuses for people what the hell. Belize is how it is because they are no jobs. an fi they do hv they pay u little like the milion dollar brodies. Dont ger me wrong im a big pup but they are many things that need to be done by our leaders to make this country a dbeter place. Raise minimum wage and inforce it provide jobs for people and much more
yeah disappointed UDP that is what your party is nothing but disappointment. Wake up and be real. All our politicians are disappoitment. all they think about is how much money they will theif and make their lives better. There will never be another man like George Price. He was the only on true leader that Belize ever had. Wake up ministers its your duty to make this country better. That is why we elected you.

I wish to travel to London on Jet Air
Hong Kong / Mumbai, stay fews days in Mumbai then fly on to London.
Then from London to Delhi, stay there for week or so and then fly back to HongKong.
It is possible to do on Jet Air – on One ticket, rather then buying seprate tickets.
Thank you
Mrs. Lata.
