Belizeans for Justice calls for countrywide business shutdown
Funeral services will be held on Thursday for eight year old Eyannie Nunez, who was shot and killed as she slept in her bed early Sunday morning. Since the murder of the young girl, the public has expressed outrage and anger at the level of crime and violence that have plunged the streets of the old capital into terror. Today, plans were being finalized to put into motion a business shutdown across Belize City on Thursday. Representatives from the Belizeans for Justice Movement made a public appeal to all to join in their efforts and show solidarity with the families of the fallen victims.
Yolanda Schakron, Pres., Belizeans for Justice Movement
“The crime escalated to the point of – I mean it’s horrendous now, so I think the feedback is really good that we have gotten so far. People are fed up and scared. People are scared now. I spoke to the Chamber; they are concerned about the crimes too, very concerned, I spoke to Miss Menzies. I encourage them, yoh know, just shut down. Shut down because it is important to show solidarity and unity especially at this time.”
Joan Sutherland, Member, Belizeans for Justice Movement
“We are getting all the support from the schools and the businesses everything. I mean that gives us more strength that there is people out there hearing us. Tomorrow we are not only asking all the schools, we are asking the mothers, fathers—we need more fathers to join us and to be seen along with the group. To know that there’s not only us mothers feeling the pain because we have single fathers out there too that are welcome aboard.”
Yolanda and Joan, I applaud your effort and know what Today, history will be made on the streets of Belize City. We need a Belize free of violence…I am Belize!
Nice symbolic gesture… but sorry to be a wet towel on this….. No demonstration, nor shutdown, nor religious service, nor change in GOB will end the carnage in our city…. We as a nation have to do it……
if the police has shown that they cant then we as citizens must do it ourselves…. let us ALL BECOME SNITCHS… Let us all law abiding citizens brun down the drug houses in our neighborhoods… let us all licensed (or unlicensed) gun holders hunt down those monsters that kill our children and show total disrespect to GOD and human dignity….
May sound contradictory…. but even Jesus used violence when it was necessary…. to all bible readers….. see how many true holy wars occured in biblical times….
These killers WILL NOT STOP…. until they FEEL REAL CONSEQUENCES TO THEIR BRUTAL BEHAVIOUR…… they didnt feel iy when they were children and are not feeling it now….
they will just laugh at our shutdown and continue killing that same day or the day after!!!!
Is this the 3rd of 4th shutdown?? Saw any difference???
WE NEED TO START A CHAPTER OF THE …………GUARDIAN ANGLES in Belize.
They are all over the world where crime is rampant.
BRING IN CURTIS SLIWA…………….. he’ll show citizens how to be CRIME-FIGHTERS!!!!!
when and where and wat time will b the funeral?
it is very sad that a little one had to go like that. Those criminals don’t have any respect for people life. They have serious problem. I guess they are very sick mentally and emotionally maybe they came from dysfunctional home and don’t know how to be or act like descent human being. Don’t they know that there are help out there. They don’t need to express themselves by killing others. maybe as a boy they were raped or touch by an adult and now it is killing them so they need to vent out their pain by attacking others. So sad. The minister of crime and violent should pass a law for starvation in the prison I bet they wouldn’t want to go there. Maybe that’s where all the tax money goes to feed those no good prisoners.
