Serial rapist beats another charge

Leroy Gomez

Leroy Gomez, dubbed the serial rapist, has beaten another charge. Only a week ago he was freed of Attempted Rape and Robbery because the alleged victim claimed she did not remember the details of the incident. Well, today a charge of Rape was dismissed against Gomez because the victim passed away earlier this year. Before he left the court, Justice Adolph Lucas informed Gomez that the charge could be brought back because the DPP’s office has indicated that it will make a submission to have the written testimony of the deceased woman admitted into evidence. The twenty-six year old woman reported in 2008 that a friend dropped her off near her home on Iguana Street Extension at about two-fifteen a.m. after a night out on September fifteenth. As she walked the short remaining distance to her house, Gomez allegedly approached her with a knife, which he placed at her neck and told her not to move. The woman claimed that Gomez took her into a nearby park where he raped her, stole a cell phone and twenty dollars from her and then escaped. Gomez is facing several charges after a series of rapes and attempted rapes in 2008. So far he has been tried for three incidents, but has only been convicted for one. He was sentenced to twenty-two years for Rape, Robbery and Aggravated Assault.

Keep that B……… OFF the street.

  2. Robert says:

    1. Why isn’t a conviction of ONE rape enough to put him away until he is too old to harm another woman?

    2. We should consider castrating rapists before they are released from prison. It has been done in other Western countries.

  3. BZNinCALI says:

A 26 year old passed away?

Is Gomez walking around with a deadly weapon in addition to that knife he keeps brandishing? If he is & that contributed t this woman’s death, he should be charged with murder because his act was premeditated. If this hole is sick, there better be some attempted murder charges in his future & for the women’s sake, don’t medicate him to prolong his life.

  4. MADDYVANDIJK/DEREALIST says:

This sick little monkey thinks that he had the right to rape women and get away with it, right?

I hope the DPP’s office will make a submission to have the written testimony of the deceased woman admitted into evidence, and then enforce it, even in death that woman should have some justice.

  8. Elgin Martinez says:

What kind of message is this Government sending the criminal elements out there? That it’s fine to be a repeated offender in Belize?Furthermore why did it took the DDP so long to try this case?Last night in Mr Barrow’s speech he stated that the gang bangers are out of control. But how did Mr Barrow forgot that he was the one who gave these gang bangers the impression that they are incharge when he held a meeting with them?

does the rape has to do any thing with the passing of the victim or it’s another cause of death? i hope that the dpp can stand firm alone with the statement from the victim, what else do they need, to convict this piece of $h!t .

  12. The Creator is watching says:

It is sad to know that innocent children are caught up in crimes. All I would like to say to my Belizean brothers and sisters, is to assist the law when these things happen. When we keep the crime as a secret, we are then protecting the criminals instead of trying to assist the law of such crime committed. This allows them to walk among us again. LETS STOP THE CRIME and start hang those that are committing these offenses. Maybe if we practice what we preach crime will be less in Belize. If you say they will be hang, hang them. Maybe this solution will get them scared to commit another crime. Nuff love Belize and lets make a change in our country.

It is sooo sad, to see the senseless killing and abuse; of the citizens that are trying to live a law abiding life. If only these comments could be posted on a GENERAL MESSAGE board, where it will get the attention of Politicians and the Justice system; we may see some results. However, I am sure the Prime Minister or people in the Justice system; show no efforts to respond to the overwhelming call for attention that is heard countrywide.

  16. wilbert says:

you park on the red line , you get a ticket. one of your car light stop work , you get a ticket. your licence expire yesterday, you get a ticket. yes say the right thing you get lock up. some law enforcement officer have a beef with you, well life for you will be a living hell. but what does this criminal gets, free from his charges. what happen to the justice system, what happen to law and order, no wonder crime and violence increases. well a song writer says, man made law on earth to set you free, but is God satisfy, will your lawyer talk to God for you.

  17. Global Perspective says:

BZinCAL I am with you, from the article it is unclear.

It says at the very end: So far he has been tried for three incidents, but has only been convicted for one. He was sentenced to twenty-two years for Rape, Robbery and aggravated assault.

Forgive me, but I understood that he is in prison serving 22 years for the following charges, rape, robbery and aggravated assault against one of his victim. In addition to this, he has been tried for two other sexual assault crimes, one in which the victims is deceased and the other the woman does not wish to continue with the trial (and we must respect her wishes). However from each comment it seems I have misunderstood the news item. Please tell me that I have got it right, and that he is in prison serving 22years.

Also I agree with all of you, the deceased victim’s testimony should be admitted in court, and so this will be in addition to this previous 22 years conviction. This man is a menace to women in our society do not let him free.
Please clarify this for me, that he’s not really walking as a free man, and it’s just unfortunate use of inappropriate language ….. I will feel so disappointed if this monster is really walking as a free man having gotten off on some technical fault.

Earl and Maddy, I really enjoy both your blogs sometimes from very differ poles, however what I like is the idea that we allow people to freely say what is their opinion. Without aggression. Maddy the term “monkey” in Belize is quite sensitive and I am sure in other culture it is even used as a term on endearment. I have seen this and I was also surprised how acceptable it was. But not in Belize, so we must consider our audience.

  18. rusty29 says:

Multiply the sentence 22 years times 3!

  19. paula says:

I agree with Robert. They should castrate rapist like this. If i was his mother I would be so ashamed for giving birth to him, I would go to the jailhouse and kill him myself!

  20. MADDYVANDIJK/DEREALIST says:

This ugly little monkey should not be sent to prison for the crimes that he committed against women in Belize,
He along with all the other little monkeys who condone rape and violence against women and children in Belize should be dead right now, not taking up the courts time or wasting tax payer’s money in the process.

I am sick and tired of these people ruining it for every good Belizeans still trying to live a decent life there in Belize.

Look at the state Belize is in right now, who is to blame?
    THEM.

  21. BZNinCALI says:

    Global,

He is in prison but my concern is that he will still be a young man when he is released.

In addition, I believe that all rapists should be checked for sexually transmitted diseases & because of the stigma associated with HIV, women who have been raped by this beast may be unwilling to come forward & admit it because the only people who seem to have a right to privacy in Belize are the murderers. At one point, Belizeans had pictures & names of many of the HIV positive people on the internet & I could not get a clear answer about the source of the information.
