Belizeans for Justice Pres. says business shutdown was successful
The appeal by the Belizeans for Justice Movement for the closure of business for one day to protest against the level of crime and violence that has ravaged Belize City streets came at a late juncture. A few Belize City-based businesses could not, for logistics purposes, close, but many did support the cause. For this first effort, the movement called on only Belize City-based business to take part, but several more in several parts of the country thought it important and fitting enough to join in. And according to President of Belizeans for Justice, Yolanda Schakron, the response was very encouraging.
Yolanda Schakron, Pres., Belizeans for Justice
“I am pretty happy about the closure about the support for the family. I saw Belizeans coming together and uniting and I think they have realized that the crime situation is very severe and that the only way we can try to get a whole of this, to try to get the crimes to go down is to work as a community. The closure, you know e didn’t get a hundred percent, but what we got, I’m happy with it. I mean it was last minute, I understand some stores aid they needed more them, that’s understanding. When the funeral was passing, the people that were out there. It was a sad day but I think we reached the point where it is a breakthrough.”

“What’s next for Belizeans for Justice?”
Yolanda Schakron
“Belizeans for Justice will be in the September twenty-first parade. We are calling on everyone to come out. I have gotten some feedback that certain schools will be—they have to parade, but they will carrying signs against violence and it will be like an anti-violence parade.”
Belizeans for Justice is also assisting Steven Buckley, the man who was shot during a police operation earlier this year. Schakron says that Belizeans for Justice is acting as the mediator between the police and Buckley.
The next step should include contacting GUARDIAN ANGELS at http://www.guardianangels.org . It is an international VOLUNTEER organization to help ordinary people make their neighborhoods safe. They are active in 14 countries and have 5,000 members. They are willing to help Belizeans organize to protect our own communities. Check it out!
Keep on doing a wonderful job.
What the people need to do is to find away to punish those guys in prison. Let them starve. I’ll bet they wouldn’t want to go back there. Talking about ending the crime. Those criminals love that they are celebrated. You have to understand that most of them came from dysfunctional home they messed up in the head and emotionally . They have a lot of anger pilled up inside they. They are nothing to play with they are crazy they are really sick, and they are in denial.
Sincerely, what I don’t get is how the National Shut down of Businesses was successful??? Has the Government done anything towards the issue? As long as corruption exists in our Judiciary System, Belize will still suffer from Criminal acts all around the country.
Giving more power to the police would do, strengthen security, lock down first offenders, and simply Hang Thirds offenders, in life one gets rid of a problem, not just puts it aside! Its not that hard.
No Chinee man closed their shop because it was NOT a Chinee who got murdered.
Chinese do not care about Belize, Belizeans and only about making money to send home to China.
Lets BOYCOT the Chinese shops.
Ask for a receipt from the cash register when you buy & check your receipts carefully that they are registering the GST properly.
Is it really true that the chinese businesses did not close their doors in solidarity with other Belizeans in mourning the senseless killing of our little girl? If thats the case then i agree with Jimmy Johnson. Belize Kruffy….. open unnu eye and start work togedda. After all its very obvious that since we are acting like we don’t care about each other……nobady kay bout we. We haffu do this, yer!!!
Even though temporally closing down shops will not help solve or stop the crime wave in Belize, the idea was built with good intentions.
Now, what the city really need is a group of underground-dogs with zero-tolerance against crime, so that they can extirpate, those animals destroying lives and the country.
Those who do not believe that the Chinese man is only for himself is a darn fool, time to pull your heads out your …. for a reality-check.
Hey Jimmy
Let’s be fair with the Chinese. How many Belizean businesses closed when the Chinese girl was shot? At least the Chinese in San Ignacio closed their businesses in solidarity, albeit at short notice.
