Police corporal possibly penalized for incident at EXPO
It also got heated at the trade expo at the new ITVET building and tonight Police Corporal Bradford Berry is the subject of an investigation after an incident involving Kremandala personality Mose Hyde. Reports are that around five o’clock on Sunday evening the men got into a verbal altercation at the fairgrounds when Berry informed businesses that they had to close as the show was coming to an end. There are several accounts of what actually transpired following that notice and while Hyde has given his side of the story over the airwaves, Berry is contending that it was Hyde who physically aggressed him. One allegation is that an employee wielded a camera tripod at the cop, who drew his service weapon and threatened to shoot if he was hit. Berry is accused of defying an order given by his superior. Whilst in the middle of the misunderstanding, Superintendent Simeon Alvarez is said to have instructed Berry to desist from the arrest of both men. The Police Department is now questioning whether or not the action taken by Corporal Bradford Berry was justifiable.
everyone going crazy in belize what a sad situation come on pm barrow resign resign you cant even keep decipline in your police force what a useless leader i cant take it no more barrow please resign give the country to a real leader.
Arm an idiot with a uniform and a gun and the result is this.
Police are not above the law, yet they think they are.
Abuse of power is written on their badges, ever noticed that? It’s never about good caring cops in Belize; it’s always about the pathetic noontime inebriation of obvious losers dress to impress.
Tye Belize Police department needs to change its culture and its modus operandi. Now I am sure there is much missing in the story between when the police said something to the people there and when he said they threw something at him. If I would have to gamble I would say the cop is the one who incited the problem! I know how they behave and their culture. I have seen the way high ranking officers behave during crowd control hence my reason to believe it is the culture that exists in the department! Two examples are: Chester Williams at Freetown Rd and St Thomas Street couple years ago over a sign that needed to be removed. The Compol himself (Crispin Jefferies) in Belmopan during the time (I think) when the teachers were pretesting some time ago. They behaved in an uncontrolled manner.
Number 1: He did not need to bark unnecessary commands. The show was over they know they need to leave. Usually after an event like this venders have quite a bit of time to vacate the establishment because there are always lat minute customers that they may be talking with.
Number 2: (this is liked to my first comment) they need to revisit their creed; are they suppose to be Peace Officers?
Number 3: The police are the “trained” ones and should behave like professionals and not like an extension of the government that is in power?
Number 4: Why did he have to pull his revolver for something as simple as this? This was extreemly very poor judgement!
I hope I have made my point but in the defence they have a tough job. The police (when they are called out) are either your best friend our your worst enemy depending on which side of the law you find yourself. Again they have a tough job and we should also follow the law but I would admonish them (the police) they they will command respect if they themselves behave in like manner.
we see, this what happens when one gives un-professional kids guns, are their any procedures,on whento get a gun out as a police officer?even if their is one,i dont believe this rules are followed, much less, make sure and punish those who dont follow them(police)
WHAT ARE THE department GUIDE-LINES………………………
UNDER WHICH A COP CAN DRAW A GUN??????????????????
It needs to be written………………
Is there anything in our law that goes against officers pointing a gun at an unarmed person? I mean the supposed “criminal” was not even running and was unarmed. What was his crime again? This is really nonsense. If there is no law against this, there should be. This is clear example that guns are handed not only unprofessional but immature officers. Do the police even have a slogan? Is it to “protect and serve” or “demand and curve the law”? Offices have a mentality and custom that they are in control and that they can be above the law so that is why this occurs. My 5 year old daughter was a victim of a violent officer against my young brother. Ever since she asks me: “dad is the police the good guys?”. What the heck am i supposed to tell her. She is afraid of our police. She does not feel protected by our police but abused. What a sad disappointment for our country.
who is Mose Hyde? Who isd Alvarez? The truth is that the officer was doing his duties and no fear or favor, but the police needs no more negatives so they are always willing to be in faVOUR OF ANY7 JACK ASS WHO SITS BEHIND A MICROPHONE AND SPEW VENOM
Good Going Chabelli: The police need to restrain possible causes of problems. If I was before a mobster and mob, I would pull my gun also to emphasize my point. People like moses are those that feel that they are it. Instead of showing an example, they spew venom like snakes and mislead people. The police did not fire at anyone but he emphasized his point and it worked. If he did not do so what hell could have happened???
In tense conditions what would a person do? You will never know unless you are faced in that situation. I once was faced with a situation with 70 men bracing me with machetes and shotguns, I did not pull a weapon but God knows, I wanted to and not only pull it out of its holster but start spraying bullets and start a battle. It is the instinct of survival.
LOL@Chabelli. When you are the one staring down the barrel of a loaded gun, held by someone who is mandated to “PROTECT & SERVE”, let’s hear your stupid comment then! Bottom line is, that was a public event with numerous innocent bystanders. It was not a situation that required that kind of action – no one else had a gun!!! Berry is supposedly a trained officer, accompanied by his SENIOR who was telling him to stand down. He should know better than to draw his weapon on a scene like that. Any number could have played and your innocent child could have been the one shot “accidentally” IDIOT!!!
CHABELLI I AGREE WITH YOU 100%, WHO IS MOSE HYDE? I HATE WATCHING WAKE UP BELIZE AND LISTEN TO THIS FOOL WHO HAS ALL NEGATIVE ANSWER TOWARDS EVERYTHING. WHAT IS HE DOING TO HELP STOP CRIME? NOTHING… BUT BE ON THAT SHOW AND HAVE ALL HIS LITTLE PUPPETS LIKE SHARON BACKING HIM UP. WHO IS HE TO JUDGE ANYONE? HE HAS A LOT OF SKELETON IN HIS CLOSET. MOSE HYDE NEEDS TO SHUT UP!
Despite the fact that nobody is a big celebrity in this country does not give the cop the right to display his gun much less point it to a civilian. There are different ways how a police officer can deal with things, hence the reason why they are trained as “Professionals,” but it is obvious that they havent arrived at those standards yet. Although the Alvarez guy is being investigated, there are still tendencies within the police department that will cover up for these incidents and again the case is futile. What the police Department needs to do is change their standards of recruiting, acquire better trainings, train professionals, Not AMATEURS. COMMON!
In my opinion,i believed the force used by Corporal Berry was too excessive.furthermore if Superintendent Alvarez instructed this said cop to calm down then he should have taken the orders given to him by Mr Alvarez. What happen to superior orders?
Common Sense: It seems to me that you’re on your own personal agenda to attack Mr Hyde.Furthermore your statement about the morning show is irrelevant to what happend at the EXPO.As a result i don’t think you’re using common sense on this issue it’s more of a personal attack.
I do not condone any form of violence. However these cops need to realize that they are not above the laws of the Jewel. On the other hand we as Belizean citizens also need to abide by the laws. Our status should not give us any special preference or make us think that we’re above the laws of this country. So let ‘s stop all the BS and hate against each other and come together as a people to make sweet Belize a better place.
Anyone who accuse WUB of being a show that spew venom, is not an avid listener of the show. These people are not on the air singing for their suppers unlike others, past and present. They listen to the their callers and try to get a good understanding of their concerns.
poor chabelli if u were only there u wud have a different take on this I was n d officer is2blame he was acting like a real idiot I wouldnt even talk2a dog d way he did those ppl he was way way out of order i wish i had d tripod i would have hit him my damn self
by the sounds of it, we either have three other immature police participating in the comments or three complete idiots.
Chabelli, if the duty of police is to give orders in a demanding and violent manner, they are no different than criminals. I would have loved to see that the officer do that to a serial murder but not a defenseless person where thousands of innocent people could have probably become victim of a tragic scene. Even if Mose Hyde was wrong, we are humans we can settle things in a better way. It’s not what the officer did is the way he did it that was wrong. I can ask you in a nice way “Would you be so kind to out off your cell phone sir?” or I could point you with a gun and say “LISTEN YOU BASTARD OUT OFF YOU F***KING PHONE OR I WILL BLOW YOUR HEAD OFF SOB. I WILL COME FOR U LATER!!!” The way we approach people is the same way they will respond.
Orlando, being surrounded by 70 armed men? sound like you were in riot process. A total different situation and perfect example where not even in that situation police would have taken out an armed gun.
Common Sense, Obviously sense is not common for you.
