BTL Employees Trust interested in purchasing majority shares in Telemedia
Classes have been called off for Friday at schools around the country in light of the imminent threat from Tropical Storm Mathew. We have detailed reports on the storm, but first we go to another development. Prime Minister Dean Barrow announced on Independence Day that the prospectus for the sale of shares for Belize Telemedia will be available on October fifteenth. Well there is an interesting update and word to our newsroom this afternoon is that the BTL Employees Trust has just written to the Prime Minister expressing its manifest interest in acquiring for the benefit of the BTL employees, a majority share interest in BTL. According to the letter dispatched today, “Such an investment will ensure that BTL remains in Belizean hands and that the company will be fully supported by all the BTL staff.” The Trust says it would also be prepared to partner with the Belize Social Security Board should SSB wish to take a minority investment. 
A copy of the letter can found on the website of the Trust at www.btlemployeestrust.com. As far as we know, the Social Security Board and Digicel Caribbean are the other two entities that have interest in acquiring shares but the PM has maintained all along that the majority ownership in the company must stay in Belizean hands. We’ll have more on this in Friday’s newscast.
Here we will see if the PM really wants BTL to stay in the hands of Belizeans….If there has been under the table negotiations, the PM will not welcome this offer!!!

Digicell Caribbean want to be a monopoly; thus meaning, high prices and slow quality of service!!! I am sure that CEO of Digicell Caribbean has given several thousands of dollars to the PM so that he receives BTL and to promote monopolistic legislation on the behalf oF Digicell Caribbean,,,,
My Belizeans, lets not continue to accept BS from our government….all the nepotism infront of ALL the noses of Belizeans….I am not in Belize but if I was there, I would surely campaign that people become more active in the Affairs of Belize..

Anwar Barrow (Son), Loise Young (Ex-wife), Nestor Vasquez (Friend), etc are part of the Board of Directors of BTL (Belize Telemedia Limited) and Barrows daughter is the lawyer for the company……enough with this, the BARROW Telecommunication Limited (BTL)…..In addtion, Lios Young is part of Board of Directors of Social Security of Belize(SSB)…
I feel so frustrated at times of all the corruption that I sometimes feel going back to Belize and make accountable all the public officials on high post….but not through the legal system…but through my system because they are destroying our Belize….I prefer to go to jail or die for my country but will not continue tolerating all the corruption and nepotism occurring in our own eyes
If the PM has maintained all along that the majority ownership in the company must stay in Belizean hands then what is the big fuss all about? Jumping to conclusion, as usual.
We can all agree that only Belizeans who can afford it should hold shares of TM; because the poor people have no money. If this is not enough to maintain the company, move aside people and let the big dogs take care of business.

True true. Any patriotic belizean with the passion for a better country will look beyond party politricks and stick to the issues. Barrow above all has been a failure as a leader. point blank. When they swept into office the economy was already going down, why take up the risks and jump into an ocean of never-ending legal battles with companies worth more than our national debth.! The war for btl with the ashcroft group is far from over, so why put a value on it and put it up for sale when we don’t even know if ashcroft will accept his payment after Oct.15. That’s something the courts will decide so now we re selling it without even knowing if taxpayers will foot the bill if we re underselling it. Next when will PUC pay BEL their $600,000 for the case they lost to them the other day!! Channel 5 weh unno de wit dis cause channel 7 wa definitely shet up bout this! What about the pending case on the Rate increase review for BEL, didn’t the judge ask PUC’s independent expert 16 questions about the rate increase and the expert testified that PUC was wrong in all 16 questions on their decision to deny BEL a rate increase? If this is so then who do you think will foot the bill for the losses BEL suffered? And who do you think will pay their lawyers for cost of court plus GOB’s lawyers? Next why has Barrow allowed his deputy Vega to purchase such a luxurious Lexus when he lost the krooman lagoon case? Or better yet for the taking away of so many belizeans properties, Juss becazz dem da pup.. is he awarding his deputy for being vindictive, for the violation of Belizeans natural right to own properties in their country? Why hasn’t he gone for the acres of pristine cayes anwar is trying to get $12,000,000 for? That could take us far in clearing the legal costs his daddy put us in. Well it gets even better, cause that won’t seem to happen as anwar was awarded directorship in BTL. So everytime your drains flood, and every time you drop in a pothole and everytime you pay higher taxes ask yourself …was it worth it voting UDP? I for one, will never vote UDP again!!!!
Let me ask a question here. Why hasnt barrow spoken to the NTUCB and given them the opportunity to buy it for the interest of the working men and women? If musa can help a few friends in gob to buy hospitals and so one why cant barrow help thousands of belizeans under the NTUCB umbrella? This is a justified help…
i fully agree with belizean voter. this non sense has to stop but if you put in pup in, the same shenanigans are going to happen. i dont want to be one of those people that only complain about the system but for someone in my position, what can i really do?
All comments ar on the money from what i see. Also what I see is elections coming, maybe we should vote new leadership in office because it clear that the ones in office now do not have our interest in mind. Maybe they not Belizean at heart because it clear from they action or lack of that dey do not care about the people of this great land

We need a new political party because the other side did the same thing. The last time I looked at the names of our diplomats years ago, I no longer questioned why we are falling apart, our political parties are set up to benefit the very privileged & poor folks are just there to vote to give the illusion of democracy.
Give the BTL employees & working class Belizeans the opportunity to invest in our own utility companies & pretend we actually want to see the country thrive. As a Belizean, I will commit to buying at least one share after you come up with the company’s real value
