Drugs found on Shaw’s Bus

rene castellanos

Police were tipped off on Thursday afternoon about drugs being moved in public transportation. The cops intercepted a Shaw’s Bus at mile three on the Western Highway around two-forty-five in the afternoon. They found a red travelling bag containing almost a pound of suspected marijuana, but none of the passengers would own up to it. But the cops were able to make an arrest based on the description they were given about the person carrying the drugs. Twenty-three year old Rene Castellanos of Benque Viejo Town was charged this morning with Drug Trafficking. He appeared in court unrepresented and pleaded not guilty. Castellanos was offered bail of five thousand dollars, which he did not meet and was remanded to the Central Prison.

  1. send that home says:

send that peace of dung back to his country, that definitely not from here.

  2. Laro says:

U must be colored to talk like that! memba colored came to Belize after Mayas!

  3. BZNinCALI says:

Laro, I don’t think this man is Mayan & the beauty of Belize is not just the land, it is that vast color palette we see in Belizean faces. About Mr. Castellanos, the boy either has really bad migraines or need all that weed for myopia? glacoma? cancer? Let’s not lose sight of the fact that he broke the law & if he is an immigrant, he needs to return to his home country.

  4. MADDYVANDIJK/DEREALIST/DEPUNISHER says:

Send that home says: Unfortunately Benque Viejo Town is a part of Belize, and therefore it would be a wee bit too difficult to deport the dung back to his country.
We should just shoot the animal to avoid any future problems.

Laro: don’t make this about race for ….. sake; it is about crime and justice. If you are not with the “ZERO TELORANCE ORGANIZATION” Like us, then shut up.

  5. Isabella says:

to send that home…you should feel ashamed to refer to any human being like that especially if you can’t even spell the word “piece”. Respect others no matter where they come from and you will have respect. By the way, how do you know that the guy from Benque Viejo is not a Belizean You are judging him only based on his name and appearance! As far as i know, we are all Belizeans from North to South regardless of our ethnicity.

  6. give me a break you little girls says:

send that back to Guatemala for clarification; and he is a ‘peace’ of dung…Isabella. Go to Guate and commit a crime…come back and tell us how it all went down.

Criminals feed on the sympathy of society (people like you…Isabella); I have no sympathy for a criminal; to me a criminal is just a weak, useless human being that provides naught to our society.

This little weed peddlar, give him some years he will advance to crack, cocaine and the money will be so sweet that he will be willing to kill for it.

At least I have one person who is also a realist: ZERO TOLERANCE ORGANIZATION.

To much weak … Belizeans in this country that’s why everyone walk all over us and tell us what to do.

  7. maybe we should welcome these says:

animals in our country more often; with open arms; or maybe Isabella can make them break fast.

Read on here and decide for yourself http://www.amandala.com.bz/index.php?id=10342

we don’t live in a bubble anymore; our people; our country are being influenced a preyed upon to the wealthy from raping our natural resources and we have hard core criminals coming to our country where docile (not our fault really) people live and preying on us.

Do a little research and you will find out that our country’s problems that we face today all materialized from outside influence: the drug gangs = Mexico; greed and corruption of politicians = USA mainly; corruption and raping of our children = mainly by Guatemalans and the list goes on.

  8. Benquena says:

sad to say, he is a belizean born and raised in Benque….i say sad cause im a Benquena ! he is jsut one more of the many that see a way of getting easy mony with drugs…..i have seen so many belize city ppl come to benque and go da melchor to buy drugs cause its easy mony and cheap no hell to buy and resell in the city………..

i dont feel sorry for any criminal or lazy person out there that only complain and complains…..we have people here that wont and dont want to go fish for their fishes they want u go fish for them and give them the fish already cook!!!!!!!

we need to see how the other countries who have been dealing with crime deal with their criminals……… in Guatemala they have a special squad both military and police and they target the criminals who are over and over commitings heniuos crimes …..they get shot – dats how they deal with them – they realize these persons don’t want to get rehabilitated they go to jail adn come out and commit crimes again……… Just in Melchor they killed like 10 man in a month —–all of whom are known rapists, killers, robbers who all are gangs members!!!!! we realy need to see of doin somthing drasticall, cause unfortunately jail is not the punishment this has been their paradise for quite some time

  9. Anti-Racism in Belize says:

Isabelle some people aren’t really worth a minute of your time or effort. Leave those ignoramus to feel they know it all. As someone already said Belize is a country blessed with a sea of beautiful races from Rio Hondo to Sarstoon and what makes us unique in Latin America.

These two people are suggesting that he is not from Belize, so let them tell us where he’s from. As far as I know we can’t look at a person and say where he/she is from. We are increasingly seeing these racist comments, last week it was Islander with the young man from Caye Caulker, this week its these two (not so) geniuses.

It’s not about race, and so don’t make it about race, as we all mixed up in Belize like pot liker, even if some of us have fairer skin. Just look at some of your relatives. Whites are in North America, W and E. Europe and Australia, the rest are mixed to hell. And of course the Chinese and the Indians who don’t really integrate in our society.

  10. Mellow Belizean says:

As a Creole Belizean, I can tell you my family has very close friends named Castellanos who have been born and raised in Belize for generations. The comment was asinine. I agree that drugs are a problem in our Belize but I’m more concerned with the state of Justice in our country. See, Mr. Castellanos hasn’t had a trial yet and he’s already considered a “peace (sic) of dung” and his bail is so high that he’s in jail. Now, Michael “Crazy” Arnold who has raped (repeatedly), killed (and gotten off ), and is a proven menace to society could get bail and be out walking the street. Now him I’d LOVE to ship somewhere else, but somehow that suggestion has never come up…

  11. Mellow Belizean says:

Ah, here comes the American influence rearing its ugly head. The comments skewed immediately to race; all of a sudden people are “animals” and should be sent “back to Guatemala.” Sounds familiar … like rhetoric we hear on CNN. Like the racists in Arizona who advocate detaining people based on their looks. Belize never promoted this racial crap in the past, we used to see people for who they were. If the guy is a drug dealer, then he’s a bad person because he’s a drug dealer, not because he’s Hispanic! Now if you read these forums every Creole guy’s a “monkey” and every Hispanic guy’s an “animal” and should be kicked out. Is this the development we were planning for?

And to blame every problem on external influences is DUMB. Sorry, I’m not so mellow when faced with stupidity. The gangs in Belize are NOT from Mexico; corruption in government goes back to the Roman republic; and if Guatemala is the source of child abuse, I think we should tell the U.N. they’re wasting their time fighting it in Albania, India and Thailand.

  12. living good in the usa says:

You all are sounding like a bounce of racial people take about hate you’ll have hate in your blood. We need to get over all this bad feeling about other people. We must love each other not hate. If we would only think about loving each other then their would not be no room for crimes at all.

In the bible we can see that love comes from god and hate come from the devil. If want to be god children then we need to act like one of god children. This guy that got arrested for drug knew that he was doing something bad. We do not want his problem to be our concern let the police do their job. If we show concern what you all think will happen? emotion will build up and this will lead up to hate then we forget who we are.

All we need to do is try to have compassion about other people if they do something bad let the police take charge. I know about all the crimes in Belize things happen for a reason we do not know how control our emotions we let emotions control us we do not know how to let go of bad thought if we would let our thought control us this lead to all the killing, hate, puff up in pride, and greedy.

  13. deedee says:

It seems like IGNORANCE has gone to another level in Belize…dammmmmmm

  14. louisville,ky says:

I am not condoning Mr. Castellanos’ life style and hopefully he will get a fair opportunity to prove his guilt or innocence. So, give the man a break gentlemen. Under the laws of Belize, anyone arrested is pressumed innocent until proven guilty.
As far as his case is concerned in this forum, I ‘ve heard everything from the morals to the crimminal and even the ugly head of racism brought to the fore.
Unfortunately in Belize, there are those that are involved in this and other illicit businesses that are immune to any form of prosecution from the legal authorities. What is even more troublesome is that those individuals are known by all and sundry…………yet nothing happens.
That is what we need to be talking about, because it is from that same source that all the guns and heavy artilliary that’s being used in the streets to kill our babies as they rest peacefully in their sleep.
Let’s keep it all the way real folks!!!
Again, if Rene is in fact guilty, he must be made to face the consequences. Straight like that!!

  19. Robert Brandon says:

There is only one enemy and it is drugs. Where there are drugs, there will be the most vicious of crimes. Drugs, crime, and the worship of money do not discriminate and eventually kill everyone in its path. Belize City is a war zone due to drugs. It is a cancer that is not easily cut out of a society. Other societies have tried with little success. Belize is a conduit now for these drugs. By giving people, especially young people, opportunity and paths to success not based on the drug economy eventually it can be eradicated or severely reduced to the point where it matters little. Only then, without the help of Belizians, will the drug route shift to some other unlucky land. It can’t be wished away.

  20. Earl Grey says:

STRANGE HOW GOVERNMENT CAN DECLARE A PLANT ……………..ILLEGAL!!!!!!

  23. elmore lopez says:

why point the finger at this young man. “moby” is the name his friends know him by. the guy needed a job desperately cause he has a sick mom. would you rather have him put a gun to your head and jack your punk @## or you rather let him take his pound of weed. There is plenty people from benque moving kilos of coke but nobody cares or acts blind. why we don’t ask erwin contreras about the jobs he promised to create for the people. those are the guys that should be arrested for steeling from the town resources instead of creating jobs and this young man with a pound of weed, how much money could that be $300. there are thousands of dollars worth of cocaine that go through the border weekly. why don’t they try to arrest those guys

  24. keila lily odany perez says:
