Eamon Courtenay tells Barrow, “Watch Yoh Self”
After throwing light on his discussions with the IMF, Courtenay delivered his own blow on the insults directed at him by the head of the government.
Eamon Courtenay, Attorney at Law
“As I said yesterday, this type of name-calling, this type of behavior is not the way a prime Minister should behave. But as I said, I will speak if I believe something is wrong. Let us look at the facts. When Mister Barrow was in opposition, he represented and was a strong advocate for the Maya in their claim against the government. He is elected as government and what does he do, he betrayed the Maya, he turned against them. But that is not where it ended, it went further. He sent his attorney to court to deny that the Maya of Belize are indigenous to our country. Listen, the government of Belize disowning the Maya of this country and he is calling me a traitor. I say again to Mister Barrow, ‘Noh watch me, watch yohself.”
With the steam emanating from the airwaves in the war of words, it is a relief that there is no call-in show on Saturday.

Belize da fi alla we not just di Maya. If Maya land rights are the way 2 go as Mr Courtenay and the Opposition want then what about Garifuna, Creole and Mestizo land rights?
When yo trow a stone ene a pack ah baking dogs, the one weh baak de loudest, dah de one weh geh hit…. Politics and politician?…….
Come on this is childish! How is this in the interest of Belize? I understand the PM use unprofessional language but there is two sides and two supposedly grown up people involved here. On a daily basis we have people saying things we don’t like is quite offensive, right on this website I have had people castigating me for my own opinion but you know I don’t take it on board because firstly it is my opinion and secondly because its my fault for sharing it in the first place.
Guys please get back to working in the best interest of Belize and the Belizean people. I have had it up to my neck with the childish behaviour about he said this and I said that and I am going to do this. Please get back to serving the people first and foremost. Less of the ego and more humility would be beneficial to everyone.
SPEAKING TRUTH TO POWER!!!
Courtenay is just making a point. He didn’t say whether he supports maya or not, but he WAS talking about how Dean backslides. I always wonder why there are known sensible people like Courtenay in the PUP, yet they let fools hijack the party and hold it for ransom. Then again why would he? The UDP government keeps creating outrageous litigation that keeps both RED and BLUE lawyers on a high payroll. Want to know where taxpayer’s money is going? Ask Lois Young.
What’s sad is that we are watching black men fight to protect the income of a wealthy white man who is living comfortably off the income from a company that is a monopoly. Away from the violence. All a unnu need fi watch unnu self.
No one has shown any real concern for the average Belizean regardless of their racial background, with the exception of one group & we know it is not the Mayas, so stop talking nonsense & let’s fake some real concern for the plight of the country & put away your weenies.
True Augustus…
BZNinCALI:
100% correct. Who is really looking out for the interest of Belize? We really don’t care to hear about pity name calling. Please all grow up, all politicians should put in an extra layer of skin because the job will involve constant criticisms from all corners. Mr Ashcroft has not complained about PM collecting from him has he? If he wanted to put a stop to it he would have done so a long time ago.
