Punta Gorda Police catches a burglar and some weed

We don’t hear much about them, but Punta Gorda Police made a major bust at a marijuana plantation on an operation along with BDF soldiers on Wednesday. They also made an arrest after a burglary on Monday that yielded over seven thousand dollars in loot. Detective Constable Leroy Mangar of the Crime Investigations Branch spoke to News Five about the burglary and the Officer in Charge, Senior Superintendent Robert Mariano, gave us the details on the weed bust.

“Between twelve-thirty p.m. and two p.m. on same date, his temporary warehouse, located on West Street in Punta Gorda town was broken into and stolen there from were eighty computer software CDs, valued two thousand dollars Belize currency; seven cell phone chargers, valued one hundred and thirteen, twenty-four cell phones of assorted brands valued at five thousand, two hundred and eighty-two Belizean currency; all for a total value of seven thousand, three hundred and eighty-seven Belize currency.”

“Yes ma’am, all property detained and one Jermaine Hynes is presently detained for that and the person wanted is his older brother Erwin Hynes who we believe may assist in the investigation.”

“Yesterday the police went about two miles north of San Pedro Colombia in the Toledo District along with the Belize Defence Force. They ended up in a marijuana plantation where they found three thousand, seven hundred mature marijuana plants. Inside the field, one Julian Tesecum was found. He is from San Pedro Colombia and a farmer and he was today arrested and charged for Cultivation of Marijuana.”

In connection with the burglary, Jermaine Hynes will be charged with Handling Stolen Goods and based on the findings of the investigation, he may also face the offence of Burglary.

    Someone test that weed fast……Belizean drugs confiscated seem to have a tendency to turn to flour (or cilantro in this case!) if delayed.
