Eight-peat record holder for ‘back-to-back’ prison escape
Dennis Quilter is known more for escaping from jail, than for the crimes that got him incarcerated. Today he was convicted for his eighth prison break and was sentenced to an extra five years behind bars. Quilter pleaded guilty and in mitigation he told the court that he was sorry but he had to escape because of the inhumane treatment at the prison. But because of his record, he could not be granted the minimum sentence of one year, which is common in cases of escape. Quilter escaped along with Luis Cocom, Juan Melendez, Jose Melgar and Terry Bainton on the night of April eleventh and was the last to be recaptured after four months on the run. Police were tipped off that he was in Belize City and they busted the expert escapee in a taxi on Baymen Avenue. His first escape was in 1997, but he really made his mark in 1998 when he broke out not once, not twice but three times in one year. In 2000 Quilter was on the run yet again. He was recaptured after that escape and his next prison break was in 2006 and then in 2007. The most recent was the April 2010 incident, but knowing Dennis Quilter, it might not be the last.
KOLBE NEEDS TO BUY NEW LOCKS!
Send Quilter to a prison in south america or afganistan, Iran, China or other countries that really punish criminals. I bet he would beg to be sent back to Hattieville prison. He just wanted freedom, Belize prison is one of the most loosely run prison in central america, so he needs another excuse.
