Scotia Bank Robbery Suspect and survivor of shootout in Honduras is back in Belize

gabriel salazar

One of Belize’s most wanted men was returned from Honduras this morning. He and his partners in crime are suspects in one of the nation’s biggest bank heists.  Twenty-three year old Gabriel Salazar and company literally vanished from Belize after Spanish Lookout Scotiabank was robbed and the security was murdered on March thirty-first. Three weeks ago, he along with Alexander Edwards and Benjamin Peters were entangled in a bus robbery in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.  According to press reports in Honduras, Edwards and Peters were shot by police and they were declared dead when they arrived at the hospital. They were buried in Honduras.  The trio is believed to have entered Honduras through the Agua Caliente border station in Guatemala, where the Honduras Customs found guns in their bags when they searched them. They were taken to the police station around three a.m. and were told they would be transferred into the custody of the office of the Public Ministry.  While they were being transferred, the police officers stopped the vehicle at a place called El Sitio De La Union in the Copan district and ordered them out.  According to the report, Salazar, Edwards and Peters were made to lie down on the roadside and were shot to the head. The officers drove away, leaving them for dead, but villagers of the area took them to a local hospital. Salazar survived and is now back in the custody of authorities.  He was handed over this morning by Honduran authorities when he landed at the Philip Goldson International Airport. He was in bangles and with heavy police escort. He was taken to the Queen Street Police Station where he was photographed and fingerprinted. Salazar will be transferred to the San Ignacio police station on Thursday morning where he is expected to be charged with the murder of KBH security guard, thirty-two year old Stephen Lopez.  Lopez was one of two guards who had just reported to the bank when it was held up and robbed of over three hundred thousand dollars in cash.  Police later recovered some of the money.  Sightings of Salazar and his deceased colleagues had been reported regularly in San Pedro Town where he and Alexander Edwards lived with their families but they later turned up in Honduras.

Channel 5 stated that these men were entangle in a bus robbery in San Pedro Sula Honduras.
Then they stated that these men were believe to have entered Honduras through Agua Caliente
Border Station in Guatemala, when the Honduras Customs found guns in their bags when they
searched them, so they handed them over to the Policy Enforcers (aka Police). (So is the bus robber was put in there to, justify the Honduras Police assassination of foreign Nationals,) hmm? Is that the correct story, where these guys in the bus robbery before the Custom check them and handed them over to the Police, or after the robbery incident? I am not saying these guys are innocent, but did’nt the law states that a man is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. I find it very troubling when News Medium get involve in spreading Miss information to mislead, or to
spread propaganda, it surely is troubling.

  2. rod says:

hang him hang him high you useless gov.

  3. Kendra Noralez says:

What is the Belizean Government going to do about the obvious execution of two of it’s citizens? That calls for outrage… The Honduran government should be made to answer for that.

  4. Realist says:

We should do nothing about the executions, what these men got they deserve, they killed an innocent security officer who did not get a chance to see his unborn child, what you do on to others, will always be returned ten fold.

  5. Orlando Itza says:

You live by the gun, you die by the gun! Nobody should loose a night rest over a couple of idiots that fall to the temptation of robbing innocent people.

  6. bix says:

they just did you a favor to get rid of these people

  7. jr says:

They were killed in honduras because they had a lot of cash with them.the honduras took all their $$$$$$$away once they were killed.why havent the belize government said anything about the killing of those belizeans in honduras?????????they dont care.infact they dont care about belizeans, the only thing they care is that their bank account keeps growing.

  8. Stephen says:

This need to be investigated as Belizean do not execute other countries citizen. Also I want to know if Salazar will be charge for attempt murder of Cliff and Clifford for shooting after them and wounding Clifford Neal. Notice that there is nothing mention about that because the authorities know that it was the Special Constable that shoot Neal. I will not be surprise if it comes up that it was not Salazar crew that shot Lopez as I do not believe a robber will make noise in front of a police station (fired a Firearm) on an unarmed guard as one will study the area before he commit a crime so that he do not get caught. Can we get a US agent to help with this case as we want to know what really happens and that the case goes through the SUPREME COURT WITH A CONVICTION OF MURDER AND ROBBERY.

  9. belize says:

the government should call those police officers from Honduras to show our police men how to deal with bad men. that is what we need, no mercy for those criminals. imagine if the person that they killed during the robbery was your dad or brother were you going to think the way you are thinking?

  10. tim says:

so what.. they are murderers.. they should have been killed in belize and not go all the way to honduras..

  11. alex says:

are u serious kendra??? they did us a favor !! thats the way the police here in belize should deal with these animals! eliminate all of them for good. it will be no news to belize if this one is released !

  12. BM says:

His parents must be so proud! Let this be a lesson to the ones that think money and criminal activities is happiness. Whatever bad you do in your life, you will pay for it! The Hondurans did us a favor indeed. Now my hard earn tax money will be spend on feeding, housing and prosecuting this disgrace of a human being. We financing prison instead of building schools, parks and sporting facilities so that our youths can become productive honest to goodness human beings. I pray for Belize……..I pray for the hatred in this world.

  13. henry says:

These guys kill my brother 4 year ago in san Pedro and walk away .
I say justice is serve .they should have kill all of them cuz here in Belize they will do nothing about it.

  14. Proud says:

Kendra, HELLO, they were criminals on the run….their luck caught up with. IF, Honest, hard working citizens receive such faith in other countries, then their government should be held accountable.

In Belize, we catch foreigners with weapons, and we set them free. In other Central American countries, they don’t waste time.

  15. mr. ok says:

u know wa they no have no evidence pan this guy that da he murder the security man and he do the robbery he is just a suspect he wa walk free soon it not far for him to walk the land of Belizean again the Honduran did us a big favor to get rid of the rats they should a mi execute all of them thats wa we need to do execute all the so call bad man u wa see how tings gt calm for a good wile

  16. Boris says:

it seems that we Belizeans are never satisfied. We are crying about the violence in our country and when the rotten fruits are taken out of the basket we feel sympathy, with this attitude when can we have a safe Belize.

In stead of blaming Honduras, lets thank them for taking care of our criminals, totally in agreement with BM

  17. GOD FEARING youth says:

reality will hit those that live wicked lives. This is the time for God’s judgment.I hope that all the murders out there start trembling in fear for their lives. innocent blood are crying out and GOD is not deaf Nor is he asleep. Wake up Belizeans

  18. Proud says:

At least now criminals know that they cant obscond into Honduras…Police there have enough crime on hand to deal with foreign criminals.

  19. Justice says:

Hmmmm, maybe we should send some of those notorious gang members to Honduras to be dealt with the same way. Why should the Belize governmenyt waste taxpayers money to investigate. One less criminal in Belize is good. It sounds cruel but in hind site, how many innocent people are killed so they cannot testify in a court? If they live by the gun they should be willing to die likewise. Thanks to Honduras fo killing two, send the rest!!

  20. Safe Belize says:

I completly agree with u Boris….I think its Rediculouse that people are thinking of them when those crimainals never thaught about thier victims… Lets be realistic they choose the life style they have! These are young healthy boys that could be productive in Belize they choose not to be so they should get what they deserve!!!! I hope and pray that he gets whet he deserves!!!! and that they dont let him out!!!! What if they killed people there too You never know!!!!!!! Now all of a sudden they are victims!!!! they are crimanals and they will always be that!!!

  21. belizeanpride says:

thank you Honduras for doing what our lame gov. can’t do, eliminate the criminals as soon as possible. we’ll keep sending more from hattieville better and you’ll bring a relief to us since the gov. keeps feeding them from our taxes while they enjoy a vacation there. thank you, thank you Honduras.

  22. K9 says:

if you want no one to investigate you for cleaning up a animalic gang member of Belize, just drop them off deep in Honduras. Trust me, they will be dealt with.
And Kendra, what is wrong with you? you should be embarrassed to try and defend these criminals. Honduran Police may have bent the fence a little bit, but they didn’t break it!

    Belizean Police, WATCH AND LEARN!!!

  23. Concern Citizen says:

My heart is is filled with sadness after reading you guys response. I dont like criminals and yes the young man should be charged if he is guilty of what you said he did, but If this was just regular law abiding citizens traveling through Honduras what would yor response be then? That is how these guys were to the honduranian officials but because they found money they killed them which is WRONG they do not have the right to do so. We as citizens are sending the wrong message saying it is ok to Rob and murder Belizeans and nothing will be done about it .WE are NOthing and are worth nothing!! yes he is wrong but it doesnt take two wrong to make a right I think that if anyone shloud have killed them it should have been where that crime was committed. I REPEAT HONDURAS IS NOT OUR LAW ATLEAST I HOPE SO

  24. Concern Citizen says:

I HOPE BELIZE POLICE BEND THE FENCE A LITTLE ON YOU TOO K9 BE CAREFULL WHAT YOU SAY LITTLE BOY BECAUSE THERE IS A FATHER UP ABOVE AND HE IS LOOKING DOWN BELOW. SO BE CAREFULL WHAT YOU SAY LITTLE BOY

  25. Proud says:

Well, Henry, if you feel relief and they killed your brother then we all should celebrate and send more of these animals to Honduras or maybe even just to Guatemala so they are dealt with.

  26. macal rivera says:

YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW!!!!! THESE MEN HAVE KILLED AND HURT INOCCENT PEOPLE SO WHY LAMENT FOR WHAT HAPPEN TO THEM, THEY FOR SURE WERE NOT INNOCENT.
YOU LIVE BY THE GUN YOU DIE BY THE GUN, THE FIND THEM MATCH, YES WHY THEY NEVA SHOW THEM POWER WITH THE HONDURAN POLICE, BUT YES THEY TOOK ADVANTAGE OF AN INNOCENT MAN HERE IN BELIZE AND LEFT ONE FATHERLESS CHILD.
I SAY GOOD FOR THEM I CONGRATULATE THE HONDURAN POLICE, NO JUSTICE IN BELIZE, WELL WE GET IT JUSTICE FROM HONDURAS.
LET HOPE ALL THEM MURDERERS WALKING FREE IN BELIZE TAKE A WALK TO HONDURAS!!

  27. Proud says:

Coral Black, in other Central American countries, YOU ARE GUILTY UNTIL PROVEN INNOCENT! If these men owed nothing in Belize, why did they flee to Honduras?? Think before you talk. Law abiding citizens will not flee if they are wanted or are being sought by Police but would go to the nearest Police station to enquire why he/she is being sought.

They committed a crime…..and since we were unable to do justice here, God’s justice prevailed elsewhere.

  28. From the West says:

I don’t think they had a lot of money, so I assume someone paid the Honduranians to execute these animals, I dont know if it was Scotia Bank, the Mennonites or KBH. I am glad that one survived to tell the story, otherwise we would never know, and the other criminals in Belize would never have known that sometime justice catches up.

  29. Concern Citizen says:

@ macacl River get your head out the river Honduras didnt give these men justice they toook he law into their own hands they did not know that these guys were robbers. They themselves rob the robbers and killed 2 in my concern inoccent man to them but to Belize they were not innnocent. They themselves are Robbers and Murders so dont CONGRAGULATE them because if you are then you are no better!!!!!

  30. olivia says:

there is now law in belize .thats why the do their crimes and kill inocent people tie belt goverment and do something for you country.

  31. Kendra says:

@K9, Alex and Proud….You all are misinterpreting the issue. Goodness, I would support the death penalty for these murdererss. I feel deeply for Mr Lopez and his family. But there are international laws that protect citizens of foreign countries from fates like these. The Honduran officials should have sent these guys back to Belize to face justice. If they had committed a crime in Honduras, then they should have been given a trial there. The actions of the Honduran officers are a disgrace to their country and an insult to Belize. I am in no way defending any criminal or condoning their actions, but enforcers of the laws cannot engage in vigilante justice like this. According to this story, they were clearly executed. Another country just does have the carte blanche to go about executing other country’s citizens, regardless of how we feel about them. What a chaotic world this would be! Please try to put aside your sentiments and understand, my people. This issue is bigger than Belize..

  32. Kendra says:

    @ Concern citizen….EXACTLY!!!

  33. Tony Hunter says:

Agree with Concer Citizen. I am not sure some Belize Police would not do the same if they
encountered me on a dark road with money. Whenever you open the door for police and not the courts to decide innocence or guilt, anywhere, you will have to deal with them harming innocents.
I am glad Honduras has the muderers on trial, we’ll see about convictions. Belize MUST protest.

  34. ERz says:

Listen to all u people talking about the Honduran Police Officers did us a favor!!! I understand the way you people feel about these guys but who are you to judge them??? We are not God!! The time will come for Judgement!!

  35. macal rivera says:

concerncitizen!! Don’t you read your bible, the living word of God says “vengeance is mines”
Why feel sorry for them, they have hurt a lot of people, and if the honduras police robbed them and kill them then they will reap the same. OK no hard feeling bra!!!

  36. Magician says:

Take note bloggers. The word is Honduran, not Honduranian. Honduran! Now, let’s all give a round of applause to the Hondurans. Kill them all. These guys are parasites, low life dogs that deserve to die as such.

Now, before all you bible pushers start beating up on me, picture this. What if you had been in the Nova Scotia on the day these parasites robbed the bank, and instead of killing the guard, they had shot you? Aha, I hear silence among the Jesus freaks.

  37. daveyt says:

    You reap what you sow.

This one can count himself lucky that he’s still breathing, and he will laugh all the way to the bank (Not Scotia though) when Trickey Dickey Bradley gets him off scott-free from all the charges in time for Christmas!

He might even make bail too, going by the current track record of the Magistrates!

In fact, why waste time and taxpayers money? Let him out now before he sues the Police Department for wrongful arrest!

Do that, and with a bit of luck ‘Street Justice” will sort the scumbag out – permanently.

  38. acain says:

Maybe we should send all these criminals to chile and push them down that hole…

  39. fedup says:

They should have finished him over there, he should have been brought back to Belize in a body bag….He will be free and walking the streets of Belize in no time, just wait and see….There’s no justice in this “Justice System” of Belize…..0% conviction rate

  40. YO says:

BELIZE IS A SAFE HAVEN FOR MUDERERS, THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH CRIME ….I SAY GET ALL THE ROTTON FRUITS OUT THE BASKET….

Dear Realist, what you say above is not really so, I loved dozens of girls with all my heart and not one nor any girl has returned ten fold love to me! Not every thing that goes around comes around, not every thing.

  42. Elgin Martinez says:

ERz: You should be asking who are these guys to take someone’s life? They don’t give life. They took that young lady’s kid father away from her before the kid was even born?Make sure your argument is based on the facts that sorrounds this story and not just your personal feelings. As a result go do some research and before you come here talking BS.

  43. Elgin Martinez says:

Kendra: We don’t even know what the circumstances are surrounding the arrest of these idiots in Honduras. It’s all rumors right now let’s wait for the dust to settle.

  44. rootsman says:

Check this statement out from the above report (“Sightings of Salazar and his deceased colleagues had been reported regularly in San Pedro Town where he and Alexander Edwards lived with their families but they later turned up in Honduras” ) I believe we are talking here about the Island San Pedro which is in Belize and that these sightings occurred after the crime was committed, what did the police do with this information? I would not think it very easy to escape from San Pedro well let’s look at the bright side even if the police in Belize are lousy at solving crime and apprehending criminals I don’t think that they are as bad as the cops in Honduras executing criminals even after they have been arrested and booked or did this happened only because they were not Honduran nationals or is it a regular occurrence in Honduras.

  45. reggie says:

Kendra they live bye the gun they die bye it. Focus on the Lopez family and not these guys>

  46. Jimmy Johnson says:

We need to get the Honduras Police Force into Belize ….. and clean the place out.

  47. Edith says:

I cannot believe some of these comments. We call for justice, we demand that the criminals b held accountable then we say its wrong that they were killed in Honduras? R u serious? We know, no if buts order maybe, that this Guy is going to get off. Is that what u wanted for the others too. We , as a people, r too compassionate when it comes to the wrong things. Karma is a b***h n I’m glad that these men, at least two of them, got what they deserved!
