Attorney Richard Stuart and wife, Maria, murdered in home

richard & Maria Stuart

The news spread like wildfire, attorney Richard Stuart and his wife Maria were repeatedly stabbed at his home just before midnight on Saturday after a Bar Association dinner. Their murder was horrific and shocking. Stuart, a former magistrate who moved into private practice, was well known and highly connected in the United Democratic Party. His wife was a chartered accountant, they both had four children. Details are still coming in, but his vehicle used as the getaway car, was located near Saint Matthew’s village on the Western Highway this afternoon and police are questioning one person and looking for others. Stuart and his wife were attacked as they walked into the foyer of their home. Their housekeeper was on the third floor with the sleeping children. How their killers gained entry into the house is still not confirmed and News Five’s Jose Sanchez looks back at the Stuarts’ lives.

Jose Sanchez, Reporting

Forty three year old Attorney, Richard Stuart, and his wife Maria, also forty-three, were murdered on Saturday night at their home on Graduate Crescent in West Landivar.  The couple had moved from Dolphin Drive to West Landivar only two months ago.  But when the coupled arrived home, assailants were waiting for them on the second floor of the building.  Neighbors allegedly heard the screams that preceded the bloodbath. Stuart and his wife were stabbed repeatedly with their own kitchen knife. Police officers arrived at eleven-fifty-six p.m. and found the Stuarts lying face up in a pool of blood. On the third floor, the housekeeper was reportedly found hiding in a closet and two of the Stuart’s four children were in their rooms. The couple, seen here in a picture of happier times, had just returned home about a Bar Association dinner for former Chief Justice Abdulai Conteh. The Stuarts sat at a table with fellow attorney Dolores Balderamos Garcia. Garcia recollected their last dinner.

Dolores Balderamos Garcia, Attorney

“So actually at our table it was only Leo Bradley Junior and myself and Richard and Maria and we had a most cordial time and conversation. We chatted about family, we chatted about various things that their children are from nine going down to only months old. And so I was jinxing them and telling them that they have a long way to go in parenting. We chatted about various things. Richard was talking about one of his cases in family court, but he’s a most pleasant gentleman. I have to tell you it hasn’t even sunken in good as yet.”

Black bows are placed on the doors of the Anglican Diocese of Belize’s office, because Stuart was a prominent and active member of the church. In fact Bishop Phillip Wright says he was also his friend.

Bishop Phillip Wright, Anglican Diocese of Belize

Bishop Phillip Wright

“I went by to be with the family. When you receive news of that nature, you appreciate the impact that it can have on their family. As one of their pastors I felt like to be with them and pray with them, was an important thing.”

Jose Sanchez

“If you can share a little bit about the people you knew.”

Bishop Phillip Wright

“First of all in terms of the church, Richard was a very supportive and very dependable member often going beyond the call of duty, if you will, to serve the church. He was also our diocesan registrar which means he held a senior lay position in the church and was one of the legal consultants of the church along with the chancellor.”

Jose Sanchez

“So this is someone clearly that was very much with the church and that makes it even more a bit of a tragedy.”

Bishop Phillip Wright

“Oh definitely, definitely. It has impacted us tremendously. Also for the fact too that this week starting tomorrow, we go into Synod which is the highest governing body meeting of the church and Richard would have played a significant role in that meeting and his counsel his insights were always very much appreciated.”

Jose Sanchez

“A valuable member of society loss.”

Bishop Phillip Wright

“Very much so and if I may add, a personal friend. Because outside of our responsibilities in the church, we shared a friendship; and we took trips together. He was also our representative on one of our major regional bodies, the Standing Committee of the Province which meant that we would have an opportunity sometimes to travel together. A colleague, a friend and in some respects someone that I had grown to respect quite a bit.”

No signs of forced entry were found in the building. The assailants might have climbed up the scaffolds on the side of the building which was still being expanded, or the other theory is that they may have entered with a copy of a key. Reporting for News Five, Jose Sanchez

Police are still looking at recent events that could shed light into the murder of the Stuarts including the possibility that a former employee may be involved.

My sympathy goes out to this family, something got to be done about all this killing going on in Belize. The government got to do something like start hanging again for all the terrible crime going on. I hope the cops can catch who had done this to this family. My people start to do something, Mr.Barrow what are you going to do? This makes our country looks so bad, THE GOVERNMENT IS CORRUPT AND THE POLICEMEN ARE CORRUPTED. WAKE UP BELIZEANS, START DEMANDING AND PROTEST AGAINST ALL THE CRIMES AND SEE TO IT THAT JUSTICE BE DONE IN YOUR COUNTRY.

    PEACE AND LOVE TO ALL

  2. Beulah Martinez (RN) says:

I use to live on Baghdad St.Richard was my neighbor and former colleague at ACC.He was a very , very cool person.May his soul rest in peace.
Why do innocent people continued to be murdered? What is the government doing?
I am a professional ,but hey ” I HAVE TO GET RUDE”
Is the country waiting for DEAN BARROW or any government official to be MURDERED LIKE THIS for the law to be enforced against these BASTERS? I as a Registered Nurse and a Belizean,I am calling for these killings TO STOP.
If the government cannot do anything in 6 months I recommend that THE U.S.A,BRITAIN or GUATEMALA take rule over the country as Belizeans are incompetent of managing the country.
WHAT IS THE GOVERNMENT WAITING FOR ? BELIZEANS NEED A CHANGE ? CALL ME PLEASE. THIS WILL BE A DREAM COME THROUGH FOR ME. SOMEBODY TAKEOVER,TIME FOR A REVOLUTION!!!!!!.

  3. Beulah Martinez (RN) says:

What happened to Richard as anyone can think is that his death can be caused over envy, robbery or somebody won or lost their court case and hated justice brought againt that person.Who knows it can be a set -up.” NO TELL ME RICHARD DEATH GWEIN LIKE THAT”
“BELIZEANS RALLY AGAINST RICHARD DEATH”. THE GOVERNMENT MUST DO SOMETHING.ALL EYES ARE ON THE GOVERNMENT.

  4. Dayton Polanco says:

THIS IS A VERY SAD TRAGEDY. 4 CHILDREN ARE NOW ORPHANS. I HOPE THAT SOME ONE GETS IMPRISINED FOR THIS AND THAT HIS FAMILY CAN HAVE CLOSURE.

  5. rod says:

wow how sad this is making me sick how sad for this couple and their kids this is what is happening in belize people killing like animals and this pm and gov bares the blame this makes 104 murders and counting . this is the kind of crime that not maybe these killers should be hanged by the neck till dead dead dead isnt it funny that the udp people themselves are looking at each other to see if they will be next could it be because of so much corruption in this gov that they dont even trust each other anymore . people are not even safe in their own homes now resign barrow resign you are the worse pm and gov in the history of belize people we do not need to wait for elections we can get rid of barrow now resign barrow resign you are uselesss impotent and corrupt my condolances go out to this family as to all the families who have had family murdered now you need to march march on this pm and get rid of him before you are next demand the hanging penalty for murder.

  6. laro says:

This is too much!!!! People in charge of police and defense should resign!!! Please stop this plague before it spreads to other parts of Belize! Form a Death Squad if you have to but do something! Start with resignations!!!

  7. CEO says:

Ms Beulah I agree that this is terrible thing to happen and I too would support swift and fair action by the justice system, but your suggestion of being taken over by some other country would be a very poor choice. The countries you listed have the same problems we do and will never be a solution to be considered. If your idea would come to fruition you would become a second class citizen in Belize. The Brits already raped Belize once before they surely do not need to do it again. I trust that it is in frustration that you would suggest something like this because you stated that you are a professional.

Good Belizeans should start hunting these criminals just the way they hunt us. This would put the fear of God in them. Most times you fight fire with water but there are times when you need to light a back fire and do a controlled burn! This is a good time! They are cowards and would stay off the streets if they know that when they come out their holes they will not return alive.

  8. E. Teck says:

I totally agree with you Marie, I guess the government has been too lenient or careless with this situation. I believe in forgiveness but i do think that hanging should be brought back to Belize maybe like that belize would be more peaceful. Come one Mr. Barrow i hope u do something about this situation because we cannot believe that people are killed, children are left orphants and the government just act as it nothing had happen. I new the couple very closely they were very friendly. The most sad thing is that the little kids are going to be without a mom and dad. Belizeans please open your eyes, demand for our peace…Stop the violence and corruption….

  9. Charles Payne says:

    THE SCALES OF JUSTICE!!!!!!!

Modern Societies have taken many steps to try and deal with serious and violent crimes…they have psycho analyse the criminal to all ends…rehabilitation, interdiction, re-assimilation, Early Parole, job training, etc, etc….and it turns out that a lot of these same criminals become REPEAT OFFENDERS. The Human Animal simply needs structure and the Laws were developed for that reason or there would be chaos.
The balance of the “Scales of Justice” is the only true measure to ensure law and order and protect the masses of the population. The Punishment must suite the Crime!
This is the government’s job to ensure a peaceful society by enacting new laws to address and deal with the changing times. This present Government appears to be trying…..Why aren’t we supporting them????
The People who Object to such new Laws do so for THEIR PERSONAL REASONS……Consider the sourch….THE POLITICAL OPPOSITION……ATTORNIES….they stand to gain from their criminal clients and lastly the BLEEDING HEARTS OR THE ONES SITTING ON THEIR IVORY THRONES UP HIGH……..Until violent crime touches them directly, only then will they change their minds and see reality!

    Respectfully.
    Charles Payne

  10. melinda bejerano says:

Listen anytime a crime is committed you all blame the government as if they did the stupid act. Why not look at all those aliens we allowed to come here for their votes?
Why not look at all the ……children we breed and leave to the mothers to raise?
Why not look at those same mothers who always claim they sons are almost saints? Why dont we support the bloody curfew instead of playing politics? When the police burnt the …t head who broke into his house we all screamed police brutality, but when those useless crackheads kill our innocent you get angry? Put human rights aside. Beat the … out of them till they talk and give names. let the Honduran police give us some lessons how to deal with criminlas.

  11. reggie says:

Hi beulah I agreee with you.Time for a change .and also the Belizean American need to get involve and let our congressman /lady know we don’t want our money to be given to Belize.Unless we get rid of some of the People in power. They just give the police dept.five millions.and what r they doing to prevent crime? I know the cops can’t do their work because of the ministers.they must ask them first if this person ok to arrest .or do he /she have someone in power .My Advice to the Minister of Police .take 50% of the B.D.F.and send them to Police Training School to study Law.and let them take over the Police Force.Get rid of some of the Police Office and mix n match the New Paramilatry Force with them. Now the Paramilatary have the power of arrest .so they don’t need someone who to tell them when to arrest or shoot they now know their right. and get a British to run the froce.get back Law n Order in the land.LIke The Police Special Force.

  12. egbert says:

My sympathy to the family. Such a tragic story.
It is clear Belize has issues!

It is such a tiny country, but these hateful crimes may be the result of decades of IGNORING THE POOR AND UNEDUCATED PART of the population.
During the years of Mr George Price, we had poor people lots of them, but the difference then versus now—the poor were FAIRLY HAPPY and had a Chance of making it at least to middle class.
Now the poor and uneducated HAVE NO HOPE, they feel abandoned and doomed and mixed in with DRUGS & CORRUPTION, the end result = VIOLENT CRIMES,because for these people life is meaningless, life has no value .

In a healthy democratic country, government should some kind of strategy for the extremely poor and uneducated portion of the population–you cannot keep ignoring these people, if you do, they will shorten your term of power as a government.

  13. Edith says:

This is so sad, a hideous crime, unthinkable n scary. My condolences go out to the Stuart family. I am no longer surprised by the crime in Belize, just sickened by it. Something is seriously wrong there n until we start making drastic changes, it will continue. God bless Belize, I pray for my country n i pray for my people. Be safe my friends…

  14. bina says:

totally totally agree with you melida

  15. Neil says:

Right on Melinda, finally somebody speaking some sense.

  16. macal rivera says:

This is really sad, four children parentless, can you imagine that.

well lets see what dickie bradley have to say now cause he loves to run for these murderers ais and set them free.

I say find the culprits and HANG THEM ……., please HANG THEM

  17. proud Belizean says:

Hang them this is so sad. Maybe it needs to happen to somebody close to the barrow family for the PM to do something about it. Ohh but wait it did they shot his friend and business partner and still nothing is being done maybe it need to happen to one of his sons or daughter or maybe his brother i cant understand why is it that nothing is being done. When Dean Barrow was the oppositon leader he had a lot to say about what he was going to do. Now that he is there he cant do sh*t all he does is talk and talk. all he and his ministers doing is taking as much as they can take from the belizean people shame on the udp shame on the pm you are a disgrace to the belizean people

  18. defend BZ says:

What happend to Richard Stuart is what happend when good men fail to do nothing. As chairman of the Crimes Control Council he has done nothing to reduce crime instead he has been a victim of crime.
He may have also violated Belize`s constitution in hiring Guatemalans to work for him.

  19. law abiding citizen says:

I second Neil … finally someone talking sense, am in full support of Melinda.

  20. Marcene Tate says:

Lord Jesus please help our country Belize. Bless the children of Mr and Mrs. Stuart guide guard and protect their innocent lives. In addition, hear our cries for JUSTICE oh Lord. God’s richest blessings upon the family. Lord grant me the serenity to accept the things i cannot change;the courage to change the things i can and the wisdom to know the difference.

  21. Dissapointed UDP says:

and where is the PM again, Morelia?? have you noticed this guy is never around. a prominent member of his party and a fellow attorney is brutally and viciously murdered and he cannot be bothered, he and his ministers continue their vacation in Mexico.
but let me guess, when he returns midweek, he will be dressed in black and will call a press conference and give us a masterfully crafted speech.

  22. wilbert says:

My sympathy to the family, my prayer is God will give you the strength you all need at this time. I feel confident that God who sees and knows all things will not let the criminals go free. Mr Barrow you and your Government are failing the people of Belize real bad. This leave us no choice but to look for help else where. The time has come for this Government to be removed. Seems you don’t have any kind of heart or compassion on the cry of the people. Just remember what you sow that you shall also reap. Don’t wait until its late to cry, cry with the belizean people and do something NOW.
Its time to wake up belize, let us all pray, protest, protect, prevent, prevail, and proclaim the word of God, God will deliver us since the Government can’t..

  23. Student says:

On blaming government for crime ….

I would love for the Belizean people to vote in the PUP for the next elections just to prove a point that IT WON’T MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!!!

Tired of your narrow-minded solutions to crime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. Justice4all says:

I read all you say but every time you all miss the real point. Attorney Simeon Sampson and Dickie Bradley, Does this one hurt you? Yes, every time there is an attempt to carry out justice and hang these bastards, you take up the case to the Privy Council just to satisfy your ego, even though you fully know the effects it would have on society. These dogs now know that you all are there to protect their evil actions. Yes, you are to be blamed for this situation we are in. From way back if some of those penalties were carried out, I am sure things would have been much different. STOP STOP STOP interfering with the carrying out of these death penalties. Now to the government; you have to be strong and stand up to those Europeans that will threaten us with sanctions. They don’t understand our society and the suffering we are going through. They are just intent on interfering into other country’s affairs. Yes, we do need to address the social issues of the society but many of these crimes are senseless and the perpetrators need to pay with their lives. Also please take the politics out of it.

  25. Sabrina says:

This is such a tragedy, my sympathies for the family. I knew Mr. Maria because her company was doing the auditing at the company where i work and i was so shocked to hear this news. Crime has reached new levels in Belize and the Police and Government need to act now. This cannot continue to happen. Imagine now these four kids have to live without their parents, especially the youngest child who will have no memory of them, how extremely sad.

  26. chabelli says:

The facts are all not yet in. There may be method to this madness. There is always twwo sides to a storey. I syumpathize but I hate attorneys and lawyers and politicians for they first seek after themselves.

    thanks
    peolpe

  27. Concerned Citizen says:

Am in total agreement with Melinda!!!Let us stop blaming d government and others n start acting ourselves!

  28. louisville,ky says:

Melinda, I agree with you completely. Egbert, I agree with you up to a certain point, and that’s when you talk about the poor being happy under George Price’s admin and could even make it to the middle class.
Come to think of it, it was under Mr. Price’s rule that the Belizean society as we know it now, began to unravel. Let us not fool ourselves into thinking that all this craziness taking place today, got started just yesterday.
Maybe during the time of the so called “peaceful constructive Belizean revolution”,the poor and down trodden were more long suffering or even docile but this generation is having none of that. And since you seem to know and applaud so much of George’s iniatives, it certainly should not have escaped your notice all his nepotism and cronism that were the order of his day.
This country has still not recovered, in fact was thrown into reverse by all the brain drain and victimisation that dates back to the 70’s and 80’s. I am talking about the brilliant minds of the Cornelious Cachos, the Kenrick Leslies, the Dr Lennox Pikes, just to mention a few.
In those days even though you qualified, if you were not a family member of the chosen few, you would never get a scolarship to further your education abroad. So don’t be in such a haste to Big up George Price because the seeds of nepotism he sowed thirty or so years ago, are coming into full bloom even as we speak. You don’t have to take my words for it, just tune in to this evening’s news.

  29. Righteous says:

To Chabelli: While I agree that there are two sides to a story, this one seems obvious chabelli. Two hard working individuals. And being an attorney in itself does not make you evil. They spend thousands of dollars learning a profession and it is their right to use their imagination and sixth sense to defend or prosecute. And yes some have no conscience of who they defend and are as guilty as the perpetrators. However you are siding with the criminals and are suffering from Dissociative identity disorder as in one hand you pretend to sympathize and on the other you waiting for the facts to prove your point that “there may be a method to this madness”. Anyways, do you think that if you were hanging from the gutters these criminals you side with would have any “syumpathy” for you. At least learn to spell.

  30. Elita says:

Sunday was a very sad day for our families …this has affected my cousin ‘s mom ,his sister, his aunites all of his cousins ,uncles ,brothers in christ ,all of his children that will never know their mom or dad my heart goes out to the young lady family as well …people we have to realize life is too damn short for such nonsense…those people that has done this will have to meet their maker…

  31. Ms. B says:

This governments is partly responsible but so is the previous administration. All of us who use crime n violence to try to advance our political agenda should be damn shame, whether PUP or UDP. That is one of the reasons why we are in this frigging mess, blue n red. Screw the blue n red, we r Belizeans and we need to start thinking, planning and working as one. One government comes in and stops the work of the previous one and victimize anyone who is no die hard for their party and the two parties are guilty guilty guilty. That is why we cannot progress because we see ourselves as pup or udp before Belizean. Enough of this crap. I am sick to my stomach of the games the pup n udp play with us and at the end aren’t try all friends drinking their champagne and sharing the wealth while we, the ignorant …… fight about blu n red. Those of u who put your party before your county are no different from the gang bangers. Search your soul and see if you are for country or party. I pray we start waking up and realize we are Belizeans and we need to act as one.

  32. madaras says:

I’m a proud Belizean, but I think I will definitely right my congressman, mayor and governor at least to address the current situation and also to warn tourists about the nature of crimes, corruption and without any assistance from the Belizean government; damn crooks every last one a unuh……PUP AND UDP!!!

  33. breezy says:

I’m so sick of this PUP and UDP BS. Wake up Belizeans and stop being politically ignorant. PUP ran the country into the ground and UDP is expected to fix it. Same as in the United States where everybody expects Obama to be a miracle worker. What do these two leaders have in common? They’re BLACK and therefore you naturally expect them to fail. Why don’t you all stop waiting for others to solve you problems and start working on helping yourselves. Everyone wants to hang the criminals so long as the criminal is not a family member. Bottom line, start being parents again. Many Belizeans ran away to the states and left their kids to suffer without proper education, housing and moral guidance. Too many are waiting for a handout from the government and many of you know who these criminals are because they are sleeping under your roofs. Many of you are also hiring the illegals who turn around and murder you. Sorry about what happened to this family and may god bless the children, but we Belizeans have to wake up and start identifying the criminals in our families and learn how to take personal responsibility in cleaning up this madness.

  34. Skywalker says:

@chabelli… 2 sides to every story? Do you mean to say that there is something that could possibly justify the murdering of a couple in front of their home while their children slept inside? I don’t think i have ever heard a statement as cynical as this ever expressed. I am shaking my head as i think about the fate of my country.

  35. breezy says:

louisville,ky your comment is on the mark. I’m glad to see that some of us are aware of how this country got to where it is today.

  36. Sasha says:

My condolences to the family. This is what happens when crimes are committed and no one does anything that has some influence to make a change does. Yes blame government, Justices, Lawyers who defend these criminals, because in REALITY, they are the ones running this country. LET THE US OR BRITS TAKE OVER, WELL THEY HAVE PROBLEMS TOO, BUT COMPARED TO THEIR POPULATION THE CRIME IS NOT THAT HIGH. I have stil not seen PM, MInisters, Police Chief addressing this issue. I believe Belizeans will have to buy their own ammo to defend themselves against these RATS.

Forget about GUN LICENSE, more serious crimes breeds and multiplies something like bacteria in an untreated wound when petty offenses are ignored. This is whey when Police have probable cause to suspect a violation they have the duty to Check it out.

  37. tiredofviolence says:

Oh my gosh…i can’t believe this. I cried watching this on the news. I can’t even imagine what the remaining family feels. 🙁 Stop the crime..you will do the time and not on earth but in Hell.

  38. Andre says:

Condolances to the family, the kids, Bar, productive citizens of our country… It is out of control, way out… its time for the leaders of this country to call on help from outside, UK, USA, Taiwan etc…. lets get this country back to where it was in the sense of safety… I would like for the person or persons that committed this senseless crime to be sentence to death by stoneing, then we all stone them… that would hurt more than hanging.. it would please me more to see them punish and die slowly than to just pop their necks….. I call on the PM, do something and do it fast and remember that you have children too….

  39. Alicia Requena says:

My deepest sympathies go out to My Aunt Anita Fernandez and My uncle Mr Maximo Fernandez and their family and also to the Stuart Family. I was really shocked on Sunday about mid-day when my sister called me and told me my cousin and her husband were killed to this day I still cannot accept that she is no longer with us. I hope Mr Barrow really does something about the crime situation in this Country and if he cannot do more for the people he should step down. I want to know how can he look those four little orphan children in the eye and tell them you don’t have a mother and father anymore. This make me sick to my stomach . Let us as a nation unite and pray together for all the families that have lost loved ones in this country.

  40. melinda bejerano says:

i am glad to see that this topic has generated so many comments, and all from thinking people. Well, at least the majority. Some continue to lay full blame on GOB. I accept they should be held accountable to a certain extent but our society is failing on a whole. To grandstand and call each other names will solve nothing. The lawyers and blind mothers out there are the main culprits allowing these dogs to roam free on technicalities. To lawyers and blind mothers all accused are innocent. In the past days your mother would bust your bottom based on a complaint from an elder in the town. Now those crackheads are robbing 70 year old women. One final point– who are the major suppliers of the guns and ammunition, since ……. died?

  41. D-Power says:

breezy… Ms B…. I’m feeling your comments, they are on point.
Wow…my mental image of my Belizean youth days, growing up in the sixties and seventies, has been completely shattered in the last three decades. I’m saddened by all the crime and violence.
All lives are precious. My deepest condolences.

  42. Giovanna Leslie-Fuller says:

In the words of President Kennedy ” Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country”.

A country is only as strong as its citizens, what does the current situation say about the citizens of Belize?

Every registered citizen has a right to vote. How many of us exercise that right? Who votes the government in or out for that matter?

No matter which government is in, the citizens has the strength in numbers.

We must realize our strength, responsibility and duty as a people, as a community, as a country and as a nation.

  43. So Disappointed says:

Condolences to the Stuart Family. You are suppose to be SAFE in your home that is just basic human rights. What puzzles me is how the justice, police dept, or Government cannot get this situation of horrific crimes under control. Think about it this country is only 300,000 people in the entire country most of them are law abiding citizens, therefore it must be only a very small percentage that are committing these killings. How hard can it be to figure out where these people are and contain them.
Could it be that the politicians want to keep us focused on crime so that we don’t have time to pay attention to the corruption that is going on at their hands. It just make me wonder what the reason is for ignoring all this crime and having your citizens living in such fear. People work hard to provide a good life for their families and we end up prisoners in our home and not able to enjoy this beautiful jewel while the sick criminals have freedom to come and go as they please. Now not even your home is safe so when do we stop talking and start acting, why are Belize people such cowards, why are we always waiting for someone else to fix the problems, why are Belize people so selfish, I wonder if it was WHITE people getting killed if we would be more proactive to stop the crime because obviously that is the only group of people BELIZEANS worship. I am so Disappointed and ashamed of my country and my people. I am so tired of defending my heritage.

  44. Mayah says:

In our society today we have to many rights. Did you ever wonder what all are protected? Guns are licensed to protect everything except toad/frog and HUMANS!! I really would like to see criminals killed before their court date as the system does not work! I agree with all those before me who want justice our way …. Die the way you made others die!! Imagine a baby with mom or dad!!

  45. David Ruiz says:

Like many, I was shocked to hear the tragic news about Maria Fernandez and her husband, Stuart. Maria and I went to UCB back in 1990 and we both competed for first place in our class. Maria ended up being valedictorian in our commencement. She was an intelligent woman who was in love with life. After we parted our ways, I continued to hear bits and pieces about her – her achievements in the field of study and work. She ended being the first and only forensic accountant in Belize. I was finally able to touch base with Maria in 2008 . We had wanted to do an audit for our institution, a task which her company was currently undertaking.

The news about the Stuart’s tragic death in Belize City has left us appalled. It is terrible to see crime committed; it is worse so when the people who are being killed are youth and professional people in the prime of their life. Where is our nation moving towards? Isn’t there any guarantee for security in our own country, in our own homes? What will happen to Belize when the young and educated, disillusioned about our social order, decide to leave?

Let Maria’s life, along with the 104 others who have been murdered this year in Belize, be the seed for action so that justice and peace may champion over the forces of darkness that have permeated our society.

  46. Mayah says:

    Gone from their lives abruptly.

WE NEED A NEW GROUP OF BELIZEANS FOR JUSTICE. A GROUP THAT WILL HUNT THEM DOWN, DRAG THEM FROM UNDER THEIR MOTHERS BED, FOLLOW THEM IN ANY COUNTRY THAT THEY RUN TO AND DEAL WITH THEM ON THE SPOT. NOW THATS BELIZEANS FOR JUSTICE.

    PEACE

My Condolences to the Stuart and Fernandez families: Bishop Wright I join you in prayer for God to receive His beautiful children (Richardson and Maria). I am in utter shock!

Melinda, Louisville Ky, Student well said. These people running off their mouths need to realise that our PM has been affected by these heinous crimes. Just as he almost lost his long-life friend, you have no idea about family lineage, but you are all prepared to criticise.

Belize has lost two good people, this man spoke so eloquently in an interview on channel5Belize about parenting, about being a father to his lovely children on father’s day a few years ago. Yet the demons walking amongst us saw it fitting to cut them down and make four children orphans. We must do everything possible to find the murderer(s) and deal them the harshest punishment ever issued in Belize.

Mr PM is in a no win situation. If he clamp down these same people criticising him would be the first to shout about dictatorship etc. Perhaps he should let them feel what it is like living under a dictator. He needs to stay strong, and increase the security for his guys to the maximum and make a serious crackdown the likes we have never seen. There are demons walking in Belize with blood on their hands, they are pure evil. The cancer of our society, needs to be cut out. If it was robbery, they would have taken stuff from the home and left without these gruesome acts. The demons seem to have laid in wait probably knowing the children were upstairs sleeping, what callous disregard for mankind. There would have been lots of blood on these demons, and so there will be people out there with knowledge of this crime (the weapon, the bloody clothing, and even weird behaviour of the demons following the act). Remember if you do nothing then you are an accomplice.
