Murdered because a friend wanted a baby to rekindle a relationship

Raylene Dyer

There has been a rise in horrific crimes, but the following story is horrendous beyond belief.  It is the first case that we know of locally and the details sound more like a Lifetime drama that depicts the moral decay to which our society has plunged. Raylene Dyer, a young mother who gave birth three months ago, is believed to have been slaughtered because her friend was obsessed with the newborn. The friend had faked her pregnancy to rekindle a relationship with a former boyfriend. News Five Isani Cayetano went looking for answers today in this rare case.

This remote pasture, a quiet acreage a few miles behind Roaring Creek Village, is said to be the location where Raylene Dyer, a first time mother, was massacred in what can only be described as a perversed tale of obsession and fatal attraction.  It is the place where Raylene’s mother, Elizabeth Zuniga, envisioned her daughter’s murder.

“I dreamt this place.  Well from the time Raylene went missing I couldn’t get a good night’s rest but sometimes I must have taken some naps and during one of those times I dreamt this place.  It looked like a pasture but I was wondering why?  How the grass looks at the same place?  That’s what I dream and that’s the same place I saw when they ended my daughter’s life.  I don’t want to go back there.”

“It is believed that eighteen year old Raylene Dyer was slaughtered here; her head severed from the rest of her body.  Police later recovered her personal effects including a pair of slippers and a rosary she was wearing.  The question, however, is: how are they able to determine that it was human blood found at the site when it is still being used for the slaughter of animals?”

The slaughterhouse which sits atop the bank of the Belize River is frequented by butchers who use the facility to clean and prepare beef and pork meats.  It is here where three Roaring Creek residents; Jason Anderson, Darren Banner and Brandon Budna allegedly decapitated the young mother.

The story, however, begins with a seven-month relationship between nineteen year old Aracely Cahueque and Leron Gillett that ended over a year ago.  Gillett, a laborer of Ontario Village, was duped by his ex girlfriend into thinking that she was pregnant with his child.  Her obsession with him led to the unthinkable.

“After we broke up and this whole pregnancy thing come up we keep in touch.  She mih dih call me.  I mih dih call her most of the time and da mi something normal.  Like she, I never got the slightest idea this young lady di lie to me right because I mih just, da mi somebody weh I trust.”

It is also that sense of trust which Raylene Dyer had for Aracely Cahueque that drew them into a close friendship with each other.  Cahueque nevertheless, wanted to mend her broken relationship with Leron Gillett.  She attempted to do so by introducing him to three month old Ravaan, Dyer’s baby whom she passed off as his newborn daughter.

“She text me and like hey she said Lenecia Jadacy Gilharry born 28th, July 2010.  I was like, you know, I get all excited and happy about this whole thing and like three months after she bring the baby right ya dah my worksite and I tell she mek ih go up da Ontario by my house right and I meet ah up deh.  Da fi di first time when I saw the baby right.  Weh tricks me is that she showed me photos of her being pregnant right and that’s the only part I can’t really explain like pregnant right.  The baby had her hair, curly black hair so I just buy it you know.”

Gillett’s aunt also bought the story that her nephew had fathered a child with Ara, the nickname Cahueque also goes by.  His aunt recalled the last encounter with Ara and her so called baby.

“Friday.  Friday gone.  She come about five, four thirty, minutes to five in a brown Camry taxi and she come up the step, give my nephew the baby.  Dehn di eena dih room, I no know weh dehn mi di talk [bout].  She gone back downstairs, talk to the taxi man and ih come right up back and I tell ah ah say “Ara how come yo bring di baby without wa sweater or anything?”  Ah say “ih drafty dih baby mussi feel cold.”  Ih say “ah just di left di baby and a gwein back.”  Ih say “a wa leff di baby fi wa couple days ya and I have to go back.”

Cahueque left Ontario Village alone on the morning of October ninth.  Gillett, who now had the baby with him had already bought her clothing, pampers and other accessories believing that he was embarking on parenthood.  Dyer’s family on the other hand was concerned about her whereabouts as she was last seen in the company of the nineteen year old U.B. student.

“Anywhere Raylene goes or anywhere anyone of them are somebody, the other person will know, one of them will tell you where the other is.  So when this incident happened it was a shock to us.”

Raylene’s overnight disappearance led to the family searching through Aracely’s belongings which she accidentally forgot at the family residence on Coney Drive.  Their discovery was a set of phone numbers belonging to Leron Gillett.  He told us about his encounter with Ravaan’s real father, Kenroy Miller.

“That was like the shocking part of this whole situation that the kid isn’t mine because he came out the vehicle and like “yo mek I get my daughter mein” and like you know it just hit me.”

Gillett was left stunned.  He found himself on the other end of an elaborate fix orchestrated by Aracely Cahueque to get him back.  The plot, however, included the murder of Raylene Dyer, an employee of Ready Call Center.  While her family is yet to recover her body her mother Elizabeth is seeking closure and is leaving Raylene’s killers in the hands of the Almighty.

“I don’t have any hatred against them.  I don’t have any hatred against them. The only thing I want to ask them what was my daughter’s last words to you before you killed her, that’s all.”

Reporting for News Five, I am Isani Cayetano.

The search continues for Dyer’s body and the four persons charged so far will return to court on separate dates in November.

How is it possible to have a frame of mind to contemplate such an attack. We are not raising human beings anymore the television is raising mutated beings that are brainwashed from an early childhood. The environment in which such a person is raised in must be put to an end or will it put us to an end.
