Unemployed woman scams Stephy Lupp

An unemployed Belize City woman allegedly tried to fill her pockets by scamming a businesswoman and she now has to answer to the courts. Thirty-two year old Sherlette Bailey was read four charges in magistrates’ court today. Those charges are: Handling Stolen Goods for allegedly obtaining a signed but incomplete Scotiabank cheque belonging to Stephanie Lupp; Attempting to Claim Upon a Forged Document for filling out the cheque in her own name; Uttering Upon a Forged Document for trying to cash the cheque and Possession of a Forged Document. Lupp found out about the scam when she was called by a bank employee on Wednesday and was informed that Bailey was attempting to cash the cheque in the amount of three thousand, seven hundred dollars but there were insufficient funds in her account. That’s when the businesswoman noticed that two cheques, which she signed but never filled out, were missing from her office. While Bailey was unsuccessful, the other cheque, in the sum of two thousand eight hundred dollars was already cashed by another female, whose name will be withheld since no charges have been brought against her. Meanwhile, Bailey’s case will go through a preliminary inquiry to determine if there is enough evidence to commit her to stand trial. She was released on bail of three thousand dollars but was rearrested pending additional charges.
