The recovery process is more than just supplies

According to the Mayor, priority assistance will be given to persons that lost all their belongings when their houses crumbled from the hurricane winds. Residents in Cesar Ridge, Jane Usher Boulevard, Belama and Southern Foreshore will be the first to get help since they were the hardest hit in the city. The Mayor says the City Council will be providing temporary shelter for families who were left homeless.

“Those individuals now can call the City Council for us to try and assist them with shelter. We did have shelter available for individuals who needed assistance last night. I’m not sure that it is—by now I think those accommodations are filled at the YWCA. Those individuals can still contact us.  For those who will need a place to stay, they can call 663-2258 or 227-0056 and we will be able to assist them to get proper shelter. If in fact someone’s home has been completely destroyed or even partially destroyed, their roof or windows whatever, those individuals need to contact the City Council, give their info so that the chairperson of that DANA Committee, Mr. Troy Smith, can ensure that his or her home is included in the list.”

“We had a meeting with the Sanitation Contractors this morning and what will be talking place, as the mayor said is that we zoned off the city into zones. Zone one would be the area from southern foreshore to east canal. That entire area will be sanitized with the works team who will be cleaning up the debris and other garbage that came as a result of hurricane Richard.  Then we go into zone two, which will be from West Canal to East Collet Canal and thereafter from West Collet Canal to the Boulevard and thereafter Lake Independence, Collet, Fabers Road Extension, Jane Usher Boulevard and we still have people working on the North Side likewise.”

The affected citizens shouldn’t have to call, you should be able to reach out to them and help them out. That why you guys were elected to city council and other officials elected in government ministries.
