CEMO and ZEMO Flowers give to hurricane victims
The recovery efforts are now kicking in. The destruction in the city is estimated to be about one million dollars, but that figure is expected to increase when a thorough assessment is completed. Our good neighbors up north in Quintana Roo have stepped to the plate and the Belize Council today received four of six truck loads of relief supplies to assist thousands of families in need. According to Mayor Zenaida Moya Flowers, who is also the Chairperson for the City Emergency Management Organization, the donation was facilitated by Corozal Mayor Hilberto Campos. Moya Flowers says the supplies will be distributed based on the findings of the Damage Assessment and Need and Analysis Team.
Zenaida Moya Flowers, Chairperson, CEMO
“They have brought down three thousand bags of food rations, which includes sugar, rice, flour, beans, macaroni, biscuit, cooking oil, as well as mattresses and sleeping bags.”
Delahnie Bain
“And these will be distributed countrywide or any specific areas?”
Zenaida Moya Flowers
“Well, these were directly for Belize City hurricane victims, those individuals who desperately need help. We are coordinating it through, however, and really working along with the Ministry of Human Development and ensuring that the Red Cross and the Salvation Army that at the end of the day we’ll have to work together to make sure there is not a duplication of efforts.”
Philip Willoughby, NEMO Coordinator, South Side Belize City
“There’s no need to build anxiety after the newscast that there is supply, we get it, when ih wah reach? Ih can’t reach. It will reach but there’s an exercise that has to be conducted by the Damage Assessment and Need and Analysis Team who is comprised of different agencies of government, health, human services, housing and so forth.”
My only wish is that the people or victims of the hurricane will inherit, or benefit from the food, equipments and money donations that we and other countries have donated to the hurricane victims in Belize. Let’s not be like Haiti, where the people in power steal from donations and fill their pockets, and kitchens.
Keep an eye on Moya, she will only help people in Belize City!! She will greedy all these things, and forget about people in cayo. this help should have gone to Cayo, it’s all politics even in times like these!
What a shame….“Well, these were directly for Belize City hurricane victims, ….how can the Mayor say that when the Quintana Roo government sent it for the PEOPLE of Belize and it was supposed to be received by the “ministry of Health”……the Mayor shud realize that greedy choke puppy and stop acting like regularlee cruffy.
