Belizeans for Justice gives to hurricane victims
On Tuesday Belizeans for Justice expressed disappointment over the DPP’s decision not to charge Sergeant Paulino Reyes for the March shooting death of Corporal Gavin Sanchez at the San Pedro Police Station. The organization contends that whether or not the shooting was in self defense that should have determined by a jury and not by the DPP. That was on Tuesday, but on Wednesday Belizeans for Justice was busy distributing food and clothing to hurricane victims. High profile member, Yolanda Schakron, told News Five what they want to achieve.

“Our organization, Belizeans for Justice has started a drive for clothing and food stuff. Yesterday we took a walk through the Port Loyola area, the Yarborough area and we saw some of the needs. We organized ourselves and we were able to take out some bags of food out there for the residents and water. Today we will be taking out some clothes that people have donated and tomorrow we intend to make about four hundred hot meals and drop it off for the residents of that area.”

“After we walked the area and we saw the needs and the people came to us asking for help. We’re a small organization but we have a conscience, we’re human. We have a lot of the mothers who have lost their children to gun violence are also from that area and I feel like they are asking for help and somehow they are not being heard much. I understand that the relief efforts are kind of taking a long time but we want to try and help them with their basic needs, water and food and clothing at this time. We were thinking next week to try and hit some of the villages. It just depends on how much help we’re getting from the public. We’re asking people to drop off clothing. We see need for a lot of towels, linen. They need sheets, they need mattresses.”
Schakron says they have been generously supported by Cuellos Distillery, Ramon Galvez from MJ’s Bar and JEC & Company Limited. Anyone else wishing to assist the relief drive can drop off items at Royal Wholesale on Vernon Street and JEC on Mangrove Street or call Schakron at 631-8457 to have donations picked up.
very good job yolanda keep up your good efforts at lease we have you to count on not like our gov and especially our pm who doesnt care about the people of belize at all he is on another vacation the 25th vacation this year and counting what kind of a leader is this my belizeans will your patience never run out we are struggling to survive while this pm kills us with higher fuel taxes so he and his wife can take 25 vacations in one year staying at the best hotels in the world well i dont know about the rest of you belizeans but he is not going to get another 1cent of my money for taxes revolution is in the air people have had enough of you barrow resign now before it is too late for you.

Yeah Rod!! What kind of Prime Minister leaves his country in a time like this. He has not even been out to look at the areas damaged and we have not seen him at least trying to help people who were affected. We need to get rid of this guy!! He does not care about belize and its people. Common mein we already had life hard before the hurricane and now its only worst. Common pretend prime minister if that little invalid boy on the news last night did not touch your heart then what will. This is only one example of the people who are having it hard and suffering from the effects of the hurricane. People we need to get rid of this man . He only cares of himself and his good living. Even some of his co ministers are doing better than him. I dont even think he has even visited his constituency to help. But if the belizean people dont wake up and see what this guy is doing , we will continue to suffer and Belize will only get worst. As you probably heard one guy say on the news, if life is not better then that will lead them to go back to the life they once live and we all know what he means. Believe you me people will do what they have to do to survive and get out of this situation!!! Wake up Belize!!
