Senior citizen says he was disrespected by cops

Ralston Myvett

In other news, an elderly citizen of Flowers Bank Road in the Belize District feels aggrieved tonight after he claims elements of the Ladyville Police Unit and a Justice of the Peace threatened him.  According to Ralston Myvett, the officer also roughed him up when he could not tell them the whereabouts of his nephew, Lyndon.  Myvett says the cops have had a problem with Lyndon for quite a while because they believe he is the one committing a spate of burglaries in the community.  Myvett says he is not condoning his nephew’s actions and he believes he was disrespected by the officers.

Ralston Myvett, Claims Police Abuse

“Last night about seven o’clock I was home when four officer come to me – well one of them is a JP – and dehn harass me.  Dehn box me up, dehn kick me, looking for my nephew.   And when I was taking down the license plate of the vehicle the officer come out and tell me why you taking down the license plate? The man buss wah load by my foot, just between me and you, the officer. They threatened me to get a spade to dig my grave cause they was gonna bury me.”

“When you say they, who told you this?  Was it all of them, one of the them, two of them?”

Ralston Myvett

“All of them, the JP as well. They say they will come back everyday, everyday I will see them.”

Marion Ali

“What is the concern about your nephew?”

Ralston Myvett

“He’s accused about some house stealing and breaking-in in Boom.”

Marion Ali

“And these people feel that you’re hiding him or you know he is?”

Ralston Myvett

“Yes, they feel like I’m hiding him or like I know where he is and I don’t have no dealings with him none at all.”

Myvett says he will file a formal complaint about the officers at the Police Department’s Internal Affairs Unit with the hope of getting justice.
