12 persons detained for 1 bullet

Talbert Mena

On Monday a group of six was arrested and charged for kept ammunition and other related firearm offences following a raid conducted at the home of forty-four year old Gloria Humes on Lawrence Avenue in Belize City.  The four adults and two minors were initially taken into police custody where two adults pleaded guilty to the charges.  The remaining individuals entered a not guilty plea for keeping unlicensed ammunition after being discovered in possession of a live nine millimeter round.  Today however, they were joined by another group of six for the same offence.  Acting upon a search warrant, on Tuesday afternoon, police found the bullet concealed inside a suitcase at the Lawrence Avenue house. They then rounded up twenty-two year old Talbert Mena, twenty-one year old Desiree Flowers, nineteen year old April Bonardy and forty year old Sherrylee Robinson and escorted them to the Eastern Division where they were subsequently charged.  In court this morning Mena, who appeared before Magistrate Dorothy Flowers, took the wrap by pleading guilty to the offence.  He was sentenced to two years in prison.

CHARGED FOR A BULLET WITHOUT A GUN. I CAN’T UNDERSTAND THE MENTALITY OF THIS MAGISTRATE DOROTHY FLOWERS, SEEMS LIKE SHE ALWAYS GIVES PRISON TIME FOR MINOR OFFENCES BUT CANNOT PERSECUTE THE MURDERERS WHO ALWAYS WALK OUT OF HER COURTROOM FREE. THIS MAGISTRATE NEEDS TO BE FIRED AND GET A JOB DOING SOMETHING LESS.

  2. CEO says:

People like you (Belizeangypsy) are part of the problem the country is facing!

Think: It is not illegal to have a weapon or a bullet but it is illegal to do so without the propper paperwork!

  3. BELIZEANGYPSY says:

CEO, THINK BEFORE YOU WRITE, THE MAGISTRATE IS INCOMPETENT YOU IDIOT. WHY WOULD SO MANY PEOPLE BE ARRESTED FOR A BULLET, THIS WAS AN EASY CASE FOR HER, WHY CANT SHE DO THE SAME FOR THE MURDERERS THAT COMES IN FRONT OF HER. IF GUNS WERE FOUND WITH THE BULLETS THEN I CAN SEE THE POINT OF ALL THESE ARREST. PEOPLE LIKE YOU ” CEO ” ARE THE ONES WHO ENCOURAGE OUR JUDIACIAL COMMITTEE WITH YOUR OFF HAND COMMENTS TO CONTINUE HAVING THE MURDERERS WALK FREE.

  4. Concerned Citizen says:

Interesting back and forth. Both with valid comments. Bring it on!

  5. Robert2 says:

WOW! That’s really stiff, two years for one bullet?????? In the U.S., I don’t think that would be considered a crime. C’mon, go after the bad guys!

  6. ned says:

I would like to aggree with BELIZEANGYPSE, it looks like the magistrate really like to come on strong on small unimportant cases but let the ball drop when the heavy weights come in. However keep in mind it is the legislators that put these outrages gun and amunition laws on the books that allows for this nonsense.

  7. LOCO says:

For one bullet someone will goes to jail….ridiculous. Yet the rubbers and murderers are walking away free…ridiculous. I bet this guy not even know that he had that bullet there. He did not even had a gun to use the bullet…..ridiculous.Our justice system is really ridiculous

  8. belizeanpride says:

just to show how the magistrates are incompetent to bring a verdict accordingly for each case but instead it’s like if a feel like, to sink in the whole, i will and if i feel you to be my buddy i will whatever your case be.

I spoke with one of the 12 person that was arrested in this case, stated that they did not had no weapon or ammunition of any kind in the house, according to information that it was one of the police assifer, not officer because he did not act like a officer, but anyway one of the arrestee state that one of the police intentionally drop the bullet and when Mr Mena told him, the officer, you drop a bullet. The supposedly officers got mad with Mr. Mena because he saw when the bullet fell from the officer. So my fellow Belizean people, be aware of these kind of officers because there are many of them in the Belize Police Department, Mr Commissioner,Mr Prime Minister please look into cases like this. Every one arrested in cases like this is a father, brother, mother, sister and this case needs further investigation and justification. The question is: “Why is it that someone innocent will be imprisoned for two years for a bullet the police dropped intentionally in their home?” These police officers are f***ing corrupted.

Frustration, frustration, frustration. We have lost our sense of reasoning in leaps and bounds. The citizens are frustrated about all the unsolve killings; the politicians cannot deliver the kind of oppertunities that is needed to off set the raising crime rate, at lot that can be the cause of desperation due to object poverty. The police and the judicial are the buffer for the politicians. Like a parent who lact the wisdom to deal with a child that beats the child as the only option to discipline the child. These politicians should be true to themselves and admit that they are not up to the task of managing the country, call election and see what will be the result of a third party, which is sure to do well in the next election .

In the Westminister System of politic that we practice, in the mother country,(England) it is common for individuals of the same party to force out the leader if they feel that he is not performing to expectation of the public. But we don’t have the luxury of such politicians becaue the vast majority of them find the pickings too great to give up,so to hell with the public and the sufferings they have to endure. They can depend on law enforcement to BASH HEADS should the public’s frustration turn violent.
