Glenn Tillett challenges Lois Young about S.S.B. investments in Telemedia

The ink had not even dried on the decision by the Social Security Board to invest in Telemedia when a first salvo was launched on the illegality of Tuesday’s decision and the previous recommendation of the Investment Committee. Earlier today, Glenn Tillett, a talk show host, wrote to Lois Young, the Chairperson of the S.S.B. asking her to bring to the attention of the Board that the determination to invest is illegal and should be immediately reversed. Tillett cites three reasons in his letter. Firstly, that section ten of the Social Security Act states that if any member of the Board or other person present is interested in any contract or proposed contract, he shall disclose his interest and shall not take part in the discussion, consideration or voting. Secondly, that the act prohibits any member of any board or committee who may have a pecuniary interest in any matter under consideration from participating in any vote.  And thirdly that the S.S.B. is a public body and decisions of this body must appear independent and impartial, which they did not in this instance. On Tuesday night, by a super slim majority of five to four, the S.S.B. voted to purchase twenty percent of shares in Telemedia. The Unions, the Chamber of Commerce and the Business Bureau voted against the investment of contributor’s money but the five government representatives carried the vote. Tillett also points out that Young’s actions as Chair manifest a conflict of interest as she is also company secretary to Telemedia. We also note that Net Vasquez, who is chairman of the investment committee, used his casting vote to ram the recommendation through the committee.

CLEARLY NEPOTISM OCCURRING UNDER THE BARROWS ADMINISTRATION

all executive post by Barrow Family or Friend:

1.) Ex Wife- – Loise Young (Chairperson of the S.S.B. + Secretary to Telemedia + Lawyer of GOB)
2.) Son- – Anwar Barrow (Member of Telemedia)
3.) Daughter – – Deanne (Lawyer for Telemedia)
4.) Friend – – Net Vasques (chair of BTL + Chair of the Investment Committee)

AND THE LIST GOES ON AND ON….ETC….

WHERE IS THE TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY???

Perhaps, Royal Blood have to be spilled to make both Political Parties understand that BELIZEANS are getting frustrated of the Politicians getting rich by stealing from the Tax Payers…and destroying our Belize…

Lets not be politically motivated but simply see the Facts and the reality

come on people. get over “hype” reporting focusing on personalities and politics. nobody cares about the details chorums. talk about the bottom line here… the government is using people’s pension funds to invest in a liability

  4. Alf says:

that should be “medical funds” not pension

  5. EMS says:

  6. Cutty Ligiyaba says:

Mr. Tillett have done an extraordinary job in regards to this issue and its very disappointing for

me as a Belizean to see the madness being delivered on SSB and the Belizean community.

The real masters have been disrespected because they want to do the right thing for the

Belizean people by protecting their way of life and to adhere to the laws of the country. Now it

seems as though all that great Belizean way of life, where we can disagree and argue our

cases so as to seek common ground have been pulled from the bottom of our feet–People

believes it is Dictatorship, people see it as the way that Government have the final word

regardless of the screams for mercy by the masses. The masses have been accustomed to

the regular changes of Government and have been used in every bad situation. People say it’s

because they have no education or simply because they are not use to anything better. Its not

the people’s fault that they live these situation. The finger is pointed to those incharge, who have

their both hands and feet inside Belize’s little cookie jar–BELIZEANS GET THEM.

  10. belizeanpride says:

i think juice is JUICELESS with limited ideas like EMS says lets look forward not backwards we’re going into a next year with more problems than ever if we don’t try to make things change so lets look for the future of our own and for our children to come since they we’ll suffer the hardship, more if we don’t try better it.

  11. Lets keep it real says:

  13. Tek Bak Belize says:

Look how Koncas.com died after elections and not even a peep now since UDP is phuking up so bad. Be Belizeans and political morons, what UDP is doing today is hurting Belizeans today and tomorrow….goddamn fruitcake [damn am so mad].

  15. WAKEUP says:

This is not a PUP or UDP thing. It is about the people’s money. We can not allow a few people in power to make decisions for their own interests. We the people have a say in this issue. I want to commend Mr. Tillett for what he did. If we stay quiet and accept things like these then these BIG FISHES will always take advantage of us.
