Ladyville bad boy fatally shot in second attempt for the day
There is tension in the streets tonight following the murder of a well-known street figure who reputedly wore a bullet proof vest because he felt his life was under constant threat. Today, who ever wanted him, got Eric Savery dead. Eric, who resided in Ladyville off and on, was shot at twice today; once in the morning and then in the afternoon. It is the afternoon shooting in a vehicle on West Canal that turned fatal for him. Eric’s most recent run-in with law was in January for a daring home invasion at the home of Carmelita Brown of Lake Gardens, Ladyville for which he was charged for conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary. A year prior to that incident Savery was charged for the aggravated assault of Ignacio Villanueva after pistol whipping the thirty-five year old on Newtown Barracks. Eric was out on bail shortly after his recent brush with the law. News Five’s Marion Ali has the details of the latest murder in the Old Capital.
Shortly after two this afternoon, thirty seven-year old Eric Savery Lewis was driving a beige Mazda car on Mex Avenue when another vehicle pulled up from the opposite direction and a man exited and fired several shots at him.
The bullets penetrated Savery’s car and one found its mark in his head. Still alert, Savery managed to drive the vehicle all the way up to the corner of West Canal and King Street, not far from his family’s home. His car crashed into the rear of a red car and that was where police met him and helped him out of the car and transported him to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. But Savery did not survive the attack and died while undergoing treatment at two-thirty-seven this afternoon.
But News has learnt that Savery’s car was also shot up this morning while it was parked on East Canal. In that incident, the bumper was somehow ripped from the vehicle as Savery managed to drive away.
Savery has had many run-ins with the law and has also had many attempts on his life over the years. In 2004 Savery spoke with News Five following a shooting in his family’s area on East Canal.

“Weh dah di real problem because it’s obvious there is a problem, but nobody seems to try to help or try do nothing about the problem to stop anything.”
Up to news time police had one person detained for the killing. Marion Ali for News Five.
Eric is also the brother of retired magistrate and now Kolbe C.E.O., Earl Jones. His other brother is Ernest Savery who it is believed was the intended target at a recent shooting at the Hattieville/Boom Road. He luckily survived that shoot-out as he left the Hattieville prison where he was working as prison officer. He had been freed for the murder of sixty-three year old Justo Jairo Perez in San Pedro in 2002.
R.I.P. Rico.
Growing up together as kids but choosing completely different paths…
Well, we have a well known criminal with a magistrate brother and a prison guard brother…
There is no need to cry about the crime situation in Belize until we address this matter: we are all related to someone that works in some government office. Belize is too small, we cannot do anything alone. We need help from outside.
RIP. The people of Belize are a little safer today.
The cat ran out of lives. We cannot choose our family but I hope Earl did not sit on any of his brothers cases or intervened on their behalf which allowed this one to be out on the streets instead of in prison where he belonged.
The more I read, the sicker this story got. Mex Ave is fairly short, how far from St. John’s Primary were these fools when this shooting occurred? We need to add penalties for crimes committed within a certain distance of our schools. 2:30PM on a school day is ridiculous!
This is a densely populated area with several schools within approximately a square mile in which more murders than I can remember took place in the last few months including that of two senior citizens
The Bible is true. You reap what you sow. I know Eric, he was good at heart, but twisted in thought. R.I.P. Eric!
Oh well Mr. Jones was good at freeing the Ladyville thieves and had no sympathy for the victims so now he know how it feels to have loss in your life. Maybe if he had prosecuted and jailed some of the ladyville criminals he may have been able to turn his brothers life around and he would be alive today. Loss hurts doesn’t it Mr. Jones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One more down and many more to go. I say put all of them on an island with as many weapons as they want and make them have at it; we need to speed up this process. This way we can ensure that another stray bullet does not kill another innocent child going to school and that child can actually have a chance to become someone in life other than a waste of space and good breathing oxygen like those who contribute nothing to our society. It can be our countries final solution to this slow motion train wreck. But this may hurt business for the corrupt elements in the police force and Government. We are stuck between a rock and a hard place people. We need to stop sitting in our living rooms complaining and start going out in the streets and get in the face of the powers that be, we need to let them hear our complaints or we can just go ahead and put a bullet in your heads; I know I would much rather die by my own hands than at the hands of a criminal. The only down side to doing so is that if I fail (given the joke of a judicial system) I would probably be charged and convicted for attempted suicide; while if a repeat offender (and there are many out there) tries and fails or succeeds then the magistrate will give him a stern talking to and set him free, hell he will even get a free meal, drugs, sex and a place to sleep while he is remanded at the luxury resort of a prison. He will most definitely get a better deal out of the whole situation. It sounds irrational of me to say so but look at the statistics as it relates to crime and the population density in this country. We all have a good chance of making the bad segment (even though the news for the past few years has been all bad) of the news on any given day. We have become a country of condoners and contributors to our own demise. When will we say enough is enough? When will it ever be enough for us the law abiding citizens of this country? Genocide seems to be the order of the day. So now do we just say that’s life lets all just accept it?
im hoping the police find who murder my uncle ERIC SAVERY LEWIS in cold blood in the street of belize
LIVE by THE GUN
DIE by THE GUN……..
WHEN will they learn????????
PAYBACK IS A @#$%^. ISN’T IT?
Crime and violence is a big problem in our country and no one condones it rightly so, it seems unless it’s crime figures killing other crime figures and then there is no concern. It looks like if there killing each other there is no problem until it comes close to home. Most of the time the police don’t even put much interest in cases like these, they seem to have the mentality like ‘one less problem for us”. The rest of the country also seems to have a sort of same mentality like ‘it’s about time’. Where does that leave our country morally, when we rejoice in the death of someone else.
So much for role modle, Just goes to prove how complex human beings can be. It vex me to hear all this nonsense said about no role modles in Belize. Check out the other countries in Central America and you will find that Blacks in Belize percentage wise are more professional than the other six countries.
@#$% all the haters that commented on this statement @#$% ya’ll go @#$% yo momma because that was my uncle and he was just defending his self so whoever dont like it @#$% ya’ll @#$%^&* only real g’s go to heaven @#$%^&* and they already know if they didnt kill him he was gonna @#$% somebody up

To hear of what happen to Eric was conficted for me. On one hand he was this urban Terror who’s name send chills down peoples spine known for his notorious street life. On the other hand he was a son, a father a brother. I knew him personally and in speaking to him you see where he was a good guy, its just another brother who slipped through the Cracks of society!!!
Buss a shot for a true friend RIP Eric
ITS SO SAD TO READ HOW BELIZE PPL REJOICE IN SOMEONE DYING IN COLD BLOOD ON THE STREETS OF BELIZE. I DONT KNOW HIM ONLY HEARD HIS NAME NOW AND AGAIN BEING KILLED IT NOTHING TO REJOICE OVER. WHEN SOMEONE KILLS YOUR BROTHER,S ISTER, MOTHER OR A CLOSE FAMILY MEMBER I HOPE YOU REJOICE THAT SAME WAY WITH IGNORANCE BECAUSE AS BAD AS HE MAY HAVE BEEN HE IS SOMEBODY’S CHILD. BELIZE IS THE WAY IT IS BECAUSE EVERYONE HAS THIS MURDEROUS MENTALITY AND WONDER Y THE MURDERS NEVER CEASE. I HOPE THE PPL THAT COMMENT REFLECT ON THE THINGS THEY SAY CAUSE TOMORROW DEATH MAY BE KNOCKING AT YOUR DOORS,LIFE IS ROUND THINK BEFORE U SPEAK.
It was quite amusing reading all these sadistic comments ur a lucky1 Uncle Eric only we r left here wondering when is our turn and what will happen next……
ss…………….. It’s SAD ………..however,
WHAT YOU SEE AS CELEBRATION IS REALLY …….. frustration.
FRUSTRATION OF THE TIRED PEOPLE BUBBLING OVER……….
We have been LET DOWN SO MANY TIMES…………………….
AND WE ARE JUST PLAIN TIRED OF THE CRIME AND KILLING.
LIFE GIVES YOU CHOICES……….. YOU LIVE WITH THE CONSEQUENCES
although we will all meet the same fate which is death… we have a mentality in bellize that if curse , kill , hate, thief etc we are doing society good .. so whats bad you do will come back to haunt you… so there goes another life , but we can say live by the gun die by the gun, you choose your destiny, you had choices and decision just like me …
he may have been a great friend to some, but when committed all those brutal acts and stealling from hard working belizeans, you know what karma is a !@#$%. and it came back with a deadly end. the family will morn, but ladyville is free for the time been from a bad cancer. and i hope the crooked officers and crooked civil servants that made him get away, find the same fate.
It’s sad to read the triumph over another murder. I have known eric since he was a little boy. He was not always the notorious criminal he was accused of. He had his good side but He was a father and even a grandfather. He made choices that his family members did not approve of. He MADE those choices and not his brother Earl
It is so sad to read some of the comments related to Eric Savery’s death. I have known Eric since he was a little boy. Some how he made some wrong choices that led to his death. He was not always a bad person. He also had a good heart. He loved his children. The part that hurts most are the comments made about Earl. The life style his brothers chose was not the one Earl choose. He never encouraged them in any wrong. They grew up without a father and he tried to encourage them on the right path but they made the choices. Don’t judge one brother for the other brother’s wrong. Let God be the Judge. God is love! Peace!
The DEVIL comes to steal, to kill and to destroy. He, the devil, starts @ an early age. He, the devil, is decietful. Belizeans will continue to die on the streets just like Eric did. Our country as turned itself over to the devil. There are a few that’s fighting the good fight. I am NOT surprised by any of this violence. It has been brewing for some time.
When we neglect to involve God and HIS principles in our lives, we get this result. When we COMPROMISE on HIS word, we get this! When we have a community of people who were never taught HOW to handle conflict, we get this! When we have a community of people who was showed loved but never taught love, we get this!
It starts @ a young age with our children. When they get hit in school by another child, the parents are there, ready to fight….instead of resolving the issue, they resort to violence. People, the teachers in the school system can only do so much…the PARENTS have a BIGGER role to play. But when the parents were never taught how to parent, we get this!
Our people need to be talked TO not talked AT. One can change one but we cannot compromise the Word of God.
Eric’s life was misguided by the wiles of the devil….and nobody intervened EARLY ENOUGH. Our society is full of these stories. I am still waiting for the CHURCH to show up for the people! God’s people are crying for help, the Body of Christ need to wake up and help!
Imagine how one good man in society gets blame for the wrong doing of his family member. Each person to its own. Matters not who eric is related to, that has nothing to do with the live that Eric choose to live and remember CHOOSE they may be brothers yeah but one has no control over the life the other choose to live so he should not be incriminated for the crime his brother committed how many of us live good lives but have bad people in our family. should we be persecuted because of the live they choose. HELL NO. That is so wrong to try and incriminated or affiliate someone with the other. Each to its own and only you will be responsible for the bad deeds you commit no one can answer for you. U live by the gun you die by the gun so dats that payment eric got. dats the way he lived and dats the way he died.
