One person detained for murder of Eric “Ghetto Fab” Savery

eric savery lewis

As we said, Eric Savery, also known as Eric Lewis, was murdered on Friday afternoon. Tonight Belize City Police are questioning one person in his shooting death. The thirty-seven year old was executed near East Canal sometime around two o’clock after an attempt on his life in the morning.  The individual in custody is said to be a ranking member of the George Street Gang.  Savery who was driving along Mex Avenue was approached by another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction when its occupant alighted the vehicle and opened fire.  When the smoke cleared Savery remained slumped inside his Mazda with a gunshot wound to the head.  His most recent brush with the law dates back to January for a brazen home invasion in Ladyville during which a family was held hostage inside their Lake Gardens home by Savery and another assailant.  Police have not been able to ascertain whether Savery’s killer acted alone and thus far have only managed to detain one individual.

    LIVE BY THE GUN………………….

  2. MADDYVANDIJK/DEREALIST says:

His death was inevitable, he had it coming.
As far as I’m concern he got exactly what he deserve, he lived a criminal life, and he was a low down criminal, now your neighbourhood is safer because there is one less criminal to be feared.
“Consider this a true blessing from god”.

Try to save the man while he’s still alive….. by saving his soul….. its sad and touchy that relatives have to mourn the death of a bad man….. its truly a volatile situation…..
if they did their share trying to convince him to live a life of righteousness then we can sympathize with them.. truly…..

But if they were part of the environment that contributed to form the bad man he was….. well we reap what we sow…….

I can only extend my condolences to those that tried to save him from his own actions…..

  4. ProudBelizean says:

Its sad…must be hard for the mom and family to see your loved one go astray and get taken down. I pray to God I never go thru that experience.

  5. The Educated One says:

Roska…I like your comment. There are those that tried to save him from himself…but we all know that people do what they do because they want to do it…there are some family members that supported him in his mess…I’m sure that they all know that eventually you get what you look for….I said it b4 on the 1st story about Eric…YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW….God’s principles are REAL!

I knew this guy from the late 90’s and back then he was much worse than lately.I’m surprised he lasted this long.He also have a brother just as bad as him of probably worse and yes,he does have more than half of his family that encourage him in his nonsense.Hi mother use to always be on tv swearing for him knowing that he was guilty of all the wrong doings he was accused of.Sad to say but they’re the only ones that are going to miss him.

  7. Ner says:

I can understand why people are happy to have one less thug around, but I grew up with Eric and just have to say that he was once a great guy. Eric and I grew up together living one house from him and even though it doesn’t matter the person he use to be let me just say that Eric was once a person that cared for others and was determine to succeed at his goals. For example, Eric rode his first cyclist race in 1988 and was determine to succeed; he practiced seven days a week at the wake of dawn, he wasn’t the winner but finished the race. Around those same years Eric sold Amandala newspaper on the street, he also defended me when bullies tried to take advantage of me at our school- Yes, he was human! I can’t say if he had the opportunity he would have changed course, but Belize really offers no outlet for young men who wants to live an honest life. Eric was once a good person whom I dearly love but I understand people frustration and my condolence to his family especially his mother.

Ner … I must disagree with your statement…. “but Belize really offers no outlet for young men who wants to live an honest life…”

There is if you really want……. and are willing to do the sacrifices that not many are willing….

I grew up in the ghettos…..in a dirt poor family….. yet I didnt take the easy route of crime like many of my ghetto friends…. perhaps thanks to my mother….. I went to school without a cent in my pocket but I completed it…..and now I have a degree and a good job… but it took sacrifices to get there…MANY……ARE NOT WILLING TO DO……

wHile my ghettod friends were hanging out in the streets begging or mugging from an early age I was picking up bottles to buy my exercise and textbooks….. I swept the hallways of St. Johns sixth form to get my associates and sold patties to get my pocket money… and spent sleepless nights OF study to pass my GCEs…. to get a scholarship to go to Mexico…. Imagine a blackman studying in Mexico…. but I did it…. so stop the Mose and Evan X Hyde nonsense that we are not allowed to do better…..

Iam paying high school fees for ghetto children….. I need to give back to my people… yet Iam stiil called a hypocrite by my black brethren…. because iam succesful….
Most of those I have paid school have dropped out of school…. they wanted me to buy them a cell phone and a K Swiss tennis…. when i didnt they dropped out “cause nobody support them”…… and the parents saw me as a gold mine and their dependecy syndrome switch came into autiomatic…..

so STOP THAT NONSENSE THAT WE CANT DO BETTER!!!!

  9. So Disappointed says:

Thank you Rastamanforever, thank you for setting Ner straight. That is just a bunk of stupid excuses he have the nerve to use for a heartless animal. If he was such a good person at one time why couldn’t he see the harm he was doing to others for no reason but his own personal gain he did not care when he invaded those people home and tortured them and stole from them. He got what he deserve, everyone in Belize want everything for free and the easy way they do not want to work for anything and if there is anyway they can steal what you have worked hard for they will do it with no conscience. I do not feel sorry for his mother because I am sure she condoned everything he did if she had not done that maybe he would still be alive and trying to be a productive human being instead of a parasite. Good riddance to bad rubbish hope he burn in HELL.

  10. Shanelle says:

@ The Educated One.. ur not so educated.. yes he might not have been perfect but no man should take another person life.. u guys knw the street thugh Eric but family members know the real Eric the one who wants to do good by society, the one who love his kids.. bt once society marks u it us hard to live an honest life.. Eric was a good person caught up in thri !@#$ED up place called BELIZE

  11. Shanelle says:

U sully So Disappointed.. he was a grown man he did wat he wanted his mom could only have advice him.. n tragedy is not felt until it hits home one day u will see how it feel to loes a family memmber and i hope u eat back ur words and i hope u roth in hell

  12. Ner says:

I don’t think you guys read the part where I said If given the chance I’m not sure where Eric would go …he would have probably choose the same route, but who knows! My point is, Belize offers little or no resources for young people whom would want to lead an honest life.
Its easy to say Eric should burn in hell but when you look around at all the violence taking place in Belize do you honestly think all those thugs want to resort to a life of stealing and killing?

There are those who seem intellectually smart like Rastamanforever who with sacrifices and struggle found success, but there are average peple out there who fall between the cracks and with hardly any programs for them they end up on a bad route.
Eirc and I both attended St John’s primary where most of the teachers didn’t care wheather we succeded or fail. We eventually went to Excelsior (for those who didn’t pass the Common Entrance), I stayed at that horrible school while Eric dropped out. Excelsior was horrible and I learned nothing. I later immigrated to the US where I received my degree and graduated at the top of my class (I visit Belize often and the majority of my fam is still there–I also continue to support many causes.)

In Eric’s situation he was a thug who choose the easy way out but I remember Eric for how he use to be and would never sit here I make excuses for the wrongs he did, but I’m sure you can agree that there is a problem beyond Eric that we are failing the young people of Belize. With no hope or prospect of a decent job the escalating crime rate is not surprising. Today its Eric tomorrow its another Thug and there will be more comments about them burning in hell and the problem continues.

  13. firstlady says:

Regardless of what he did & how he chose to live his life,he was a mother’s child. Death is for everyone, so who are we to judge him?

  14. BZNinCALI says:

Ner, glad you made it but let’s not kick St John’s Primary’s staff. Many of us went there including our PM & his law partner & while they may have had a bad teacher or two, they were not the majority. Eric’s older siblings; Earl, Joan, Grace & the others all went to St John’s, Earl is running the prison. Ms Henderson/Mrs Miller to your generation worked her a$$ off to mold her students, Mrs. Young (Std2) was decent, Mrs. Williams. Johnson, Arnold, Reyes & others whose name I do not remember do not deserve this. By the way, many of us showed up with nothing but our desire to learn, our pencil & exercise books & creamed the country’s backside in the scholarship & entrance exams back in the day.

Most of us grew up with nothing & chose not to see it as a handicap but as incentive to do better. There are a lot of young men from our old neighborhood who when given the opportunity, took it & flourished & we need to stop making excuses for the others.

SO DISSAPOINTED SOUNDS JUST LIKE THE SO CALL POOR FAMILY IN LADYVILLE WHO IS NOW LIVING OFF DRUGS MONEY BECAUSE THE MAN WHO MADE THAT FAMILY DIED THE SAME.
