High Commissioner, Kamela Palma, reinstated

Kamela Palma

We have been reporting that the High Commissioner Kamela Palma was fired on November first with immediate effect. Her firing caused a maelstrom; the Prime Minister Dean Barrow said she was disrespectful, insubordinate and outrageous. On Monday a rather undiplomatic release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the High Commissioner all sorts of names. The release clearly appeared to seal the fate of the ousted High Commissioner.  That was accompanied by a correspondence from Palma to the C.E.O. of Ministry; Alexis Rosado intended to prove that she had stepped way out of line. Well that was on Monday, but today, Palma’s termination was taken to Cabinet, and here is what happened. Cabinet decided to withdraw the termination which means that Palma gets her job back. She did provide, we are told, an apology. But there is still the matter of Tanya Hulse, the junior diplomat and daughter of the minister of NEMO who caused the uproar and who stays at the High Commission and then of course, there’s the bad blood between Palma, her (quote) boss and the Minister of Foreign Affairs who oversaw the fallout.

  2. GUINEA GRASS Observer says:

Am glad that Mrs. Palma was reinstate, however, there is still the matter of Tanya Hulse!!!

Any investigation of the allegation of misappropriation of public funds by Ms. Hulse????

Am sure Ms. Palma was reinstated so that she doesn’t open her mouth and reveal the secrets of GOB…..

Honestly, I hope that Ms. Palma does the right thing and inform the Belizeans of the corruption of GOB!!!

I believe in the HOLY QURAN–Ive Loved and Admired the HOLY BIBLE and I still Keep my daily

Practices– GOD Is Above All–with that said–Do your duties Mrs. PALMA–remember that

everyone is answerable to some form of authority–in the case of public service-you are

responsible for and to the Belizean People—Someone stated something about Colville Young

The queen rep for Belize–Lets fire that man–he is not needed or give him another post–The

queen is for England and has also lost most of her intrigues and whatever comes with

solipsism—she pay her taxes and of course she obeys the law—Belize had a small

relationship with England and they never fully did the country true justice–is it because

Guatemala can give them more?–The world is heading towards a global economy and if

crooks in government believe that they have gotten away with a few dollars in offshore

accounts—I’ll kick a rock and injure my toe–a show that I bear torment and will pursue the

criminals that have hurt me and my brothers–call it what you like–It’s my 1st form of scolding in

a long and overdue time.. GET THEM BELIZEANS.

I am grateful to see that these men are able to put the boys back in the strap & end the pissing contest.

Could it be that the Minister of Foreign Affairs tried to upstage the PM by contradicting what he said & got hit on the head with that rolled up newspaper?. Down doggy! Whatever the reasons were, we will never know but it suggests they are at least listening to voices other than their own. Hopefully the next step will be to quietly separate these women, address the allegations against Miss Hulse & give Belizeans some hope that they are really trying to to get away from business as usual.

  5. rod says:

if i was you ms palma i would take this pm your boss and the minister of defence to court and accuse them of treason and spying along with corruption expose them to the british media make them apologize to you for putting you through this ordeal that is corrupted .

They will learn never to mes with the MAJOY FORCE of LIFE WHICH IS A LADY.GIVE RESPECT TO YOU HARD WORKING LADIES.

  7. bobby says:

At last Mr D Barrow brings Rosado and Hulse to heel. Lets hope they let HC Palma get on with her good works protecting and promoting Belize.

  8. Sugar says:

So sad to hear that the lady had to apologize…for what?? for standing up to nepotism and corruption?? Its Deano and the CEO who owe this lady an apology……but, am happy to know Belize has retained a wonderful Ambassador

  9. EL CHE says:

The one who should have been fired is Tanya Hulse,if the allegations were true, but we hear nothing about it,from Dean barrow,or the media, seems that the media in belize are restricted to ask certain questions.that is why-NEPOTISM is bad in policts, and belize is full of it-sick.

  10. Initiate! says:

    Kids!!

  11. Royal Rat says:

I would like to point out, that Ms. Palma, as Belizean woman we should hold high and give her credits as with our other women politicians that have stood firm in their careers where the governments wants to bully their positions based on internal connections. Its time that we should advocate for our women and where gender in our society plays a role…..Apologize? for what, because some one closely related to a minister is stealing Belizean Tax payers money? I strongly believe its the ministers that owe an apology and the other individual should be reconsidering a new commissioners position.

  12. rootsman says:

Don’t want to jump the gun on this, but I think that Mr. Barrow in now realizing who he is there to serve and that he does not have to take crap from the rest of his administration,.

if there is no dirt on him that can be exposed, what he should be doing now is to tighten the reigns, he should sit individually with each member of his administration and lay out his plan to them and find out exactly where they stand and if he finds out that they are not willing to play by the rules then he should remove them, of course he will not be able to do this if these people have stuff on him, unless he takes action to improve the way things are being run he is looking at political suicide but then if he did not really care to serve the people that elected him then this will not really matter to him and he will most likely go down as the worst leader Belize have ever had.

  13. ProudBelizean says:

Ms. Palma, glad you were re-instated. I know they felt threatened.

  14. Oscar965 says:

At the end of the day…we look bad in the eyes of the world. All of this could have been handled without having the entire world watch us fight like infant school kids. Both women are politically connected..whomever has the best connections will end up winning this…too bad our country’s name goes down the drain….Ms. Hulse has immunity she…don’t kid yourself…see once you are in government you can do no wrong… Can anyone recall when was the last time a politician was proved guilty…Musa free of all charges..Moya…the same…jeje…sad…yet someone can steal 100 worth of groceries and spend years in jail…and when the millions dissapear…we turn a blind eye…

  15. equaljusticeforall says:

Reinstating Ms Palma is just half remedy, we need to suspend temporarily Miss Hulse and investigate properly “misappropriation of public funds”

  16. bobby says:

This is not just about Ms Hulse. If she were up to no good, reports should have been sent to the CEO as a matter of procedure. How long has Rosado been hiding these facts and for what purpose, if indeed reports were sent and are true. I for one think they are part of a bad bunch of apples. The bad bunch of apples only protect themselves. If Rosado knew of Ms Hulse’s indiscretion and kept quiet, he has made Belize the laughing stock of the world.
He has shamed himself, his PM, and his country.

  17. madaras says:

At the end of the day same clowns different circus, neh clowns “haf fi go” weh yo deh yellow man. Dah now dah commercial fi di air…..

  18. Global Perspective says:

Bobby I am with you. Mr Barrow I am glad to see common sense prevailed in the end.

  19. RadicalBelizean says:

The people spoke and they listened, this is democracy in action. Now please make sure that people in Belmopan don’t pull a fast one like this again.

  20. daveyt says:

I think they should all be recalled and replaced immediately. belize has suffered enough shame in the international community.

At this rate, we will lose Tourism, trade and any kind of investment from, and we’ll get pushed even further behind other ‘developing countries’.. We stopped developing back in 1998, and we’ll soon be another Haiti.

not that theose in power, or those just ousted from power give a toss. they have offshore accounts with millions of our taxpayers money stashed away for a rainy day. they houses in Miami, probably Cuba, and other tax havens to run to when the pohh realy hits the fan!

  21. alex says:

I would like to congradulate Prime Minister Mr Barrow on finally deciding to fulfil his duty of running the country and making important decisions.

From here in London it seems Mr Rusado is running the country and making all the important decisions. I think the next step for Mr Barrow is to replace Mr Rusado with someone that will not be undermining his authority.

The only person that is disrespectful and thinks he is bigger than the G.O.B. is Mr Rusado.

Well done for reinstating Miss Palma, she’s a fantastic representative for Belize with values, integrity and a Lady in every sense of the word.

  22. ProudBelizean says:

Alex, Rosado is blindfolded by the lee gial we ih di baaang….creo que le dio agua de calzones….he’s gone balloons….he di try prove that he in charge.

I agree with you bobby. Rosado has indeed shamed himself, his PM and our country (if I may correct).

  23. Bobby says:

Why is it that nothing is being said about the source of all of this uproar? How long was the allegation of financial wrongdoing by Ms Hulse covered up by CEO Rosado? How does he define an “administrative glitch?” Why did he prefer to go after the High Commissioner for acting correctly?

Does anyone find the irony that both the Minister Hulse and his daugther had cases ruled against them in the supreme court at roughly the same time? People in Cayo know first hand about her rubber checks. When will people open their eyes? These court cases are in the public record. Is Belize to become like Animal Farm? Are we happy to be blind?

  24. Ryan Patel says:

I am grateful to the fact that Ms Palma has been reinstate to her position as she well deserve to be here. She was and still doing a great job for the Government of Belize and they should appreciate everything she does. I believe in the truth and the truth always win. We all believe in her. I wish her all the best. Its hard to find a hard working and dedicated person who enjoy doing her job. On behalf of all my family I wish her all the very best.
