2008 murder victim was raped then hit with hammer on the head

Twenty-four year old Darrel Grant a Belize City resident who stands accused of killing Sandra Ruiz in August of 2008 today testified before the Supreme Court. During his testimony Grant claimed he was pressured by Sergeant Nicholas Palomo into confessing that he took part in the murder, but he is now claiming he was at a party on the night of the incident. Grant further testified that he was promised absolution from any and all charges if he testified as a witness to the crime. This, he said, was told to him after being found in possession of a gold chain belonging to Ruiz the day after her murder. Grant also said that on the night of the party he was in the company of a friend known to him only as Saragosa who suggested that go to Ruiz’ home to steal her jewelry. According to Grant, he held Ruiz while Saragosa hit her on the head with a hammer. In court last week Doctor Mario Estradabran testified that Ruiz was raped then badly beaten, fracturing her ribs and breaking her jaw before being hit with a blunt object. On Wednesday court prosecutor Yohhahnseh Cave concluded his presentation after calling more than six witnesses to the stand. The case has been adjourned until Friday morning when Justice Lucas is expected to sum up the evidence of the case against Darrel Grant.

The media should have covered the story from the begining and they would have noticed that Saragosa took the stand also and stated that the night in question he was home. Poor excuse Darrell Grant, no one coach you to confess what you did, you confessed and gave all details of what had transpired because you were the one that did it. Hope the hang your sorry ###. As for the officer who you confessed to, Job well done officer,we need more police officer like you who could convince suspects to confess without the beating the crap out of them.
I hope that our Justice System does not fail Ms. Ruiz’ family. The person/persons, who did this, AND HIS ACCOMPLICE, both deserve the death penalty. This was one of the most heinous crimes committed in Belize it will be quite disheartening if this case falls apart, and no one is punished. This woman was viciously raped and hammered to death for her jewelries, and her younger child was also hammered in the head and was in a coma and had to be hospitalized.
