Spoken Word Competition; a safe space for the youth

Finding appropriate and creative activities for the youth may not always be an easy task, especially in an age when the interests of teens are highly diverse and fickle. However, the Youth Voices led by Global Parish group is attempting to create a safe space for youth while exploring the digital arts, documentary storytelling and poetry.  One of the organizers of the group told News Five that on Sunday they will be canvassing for youths to sign up for their program.

“On Sunday at five p.m., at the Battlefield Park we’re having a Spoken Word Competition. It will be in conjunction with signing up for the whole project. Applicants must be between the ages of sixteen and twenty-two and it is for a course that teaches them film documentary.”

“The signing up for it, is it only for video related purposes?”

“No we have storytelling, poetry, photography. It’s all in there.”

“This is something primarily for the youth?”

“Yes, because the age range is between sixteen and twenty-two.”

“This project that the group is undertaking, where do you expect it to go? Is it only a one event thing?”

“No because the whole entire project spans two years. Among the lineup of performers is Erron Golanche beat-boxing. Doing poetry, we have Ritamae Hyde and Raspin from Hopkins.”
