Tension flares: P.M. at odds with the Bar Association

dean barrow

For some time the Prime Minister has been at odds with the Bar Association. That tension went up by more notches today when the Prime Minister publicly chided the fraternity of lawyers. It happened when Freetown Representative Francis Fonseca raised the issue of the state of the judiciary in the House. Fonseca expressed concern that there was interference in the judiciary and he questioned the way the Chief Justice Abdulai Conteh and the former president of the Court of Appeal, Elliot Mottley, had been forced out. That sent the Prime Minister in a rage.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“The bar association is P.U.P. the vast majority of the members of the bar are partisan, that association is P.U.P. Did you ever hear the bar association and it has been so for a number of years. You were the government for years and years and you use to send your people to study and that is how the numbers became so lopsided. When all that was happening was taking place under your administration, when you were doing things like stealing money to pay the private debt of Universal, when you signed guarantees that were secret and illegal which you witnessed Mister member for Freetown and when these things eventually came to light and the entire society revolted against it, did you hear the bar Association make one statement with respect to what was happening? Because it is an association controlled by the People’s United Party.”

From what we know, the Bar executive, which comprises attorneys from both sides of the fence, is incensed at the prime minister’s remarks.

Extreme leadership crisis in the jewel under PM Barrow’s administration in terms of the rule of law. Appearently, the current PM believes that all that he is doing is justifiable under the law, simply because some people think somewhat differently from him and his UDP colleagues, cronies, associates and family members. The current PM needs to be cognizant that no matter what was or what orientation existed before or different perception others may have, do not and cannot justify his current illegal activities and unscrupolus behavior of his UDP administration/cabinet. His current administration must absolutely adhere to the constitution and the rule of law coupled with certain etiquettes and ehtics of leadership. The PM’s behavior resembles that of an evil emperor, who his seeking vegenance against the populace of Belize who does not support him and his incompetent evil cabal of men. This man needs to realize that being the leader/head of state of Belize does not make Belize his personal property. Leadership is a trust granted to him by the populace. Not a right to change the constitution or do what ever he desires. Wake up Belize.

Well i am sure that the pup did not do some of the things in the right procedure and some money might have went missing but then again hello the udp is doing that and worse. Atlleast the pup sent people to study thank you for pointing that out mr pm, and by doing so they created a job for many belizeans both directly to those granted these scholorships to study and are now present lawyers etc but they also authomatically created jobs for other people who will work for these scholars i aplaud the pup for that and not taking away jobs like the udp did and i say this because i too suffered as a result of the udp giving posts to people who are obviously not qualified

Politics as usual. We have too many lawyers with nothing constructive to do except run for office. They win & take their share off the top, spread a little among their friends & family & the rest get crumbs if they are lucky.

Neither party has any reason to change until the people who vote them in demand it, stand their ground & stop making excuses for crappy behavior simply because they are the beneficiaries.

  7. Lets keep it real says:

Whap dem one by one! Whap dem two by two. Bun fiyah pan all of the lawyers!!
