The last sign-off of Radio Personality, Adrian Harris; he will be missed

Adrian Harris

A veteran in the radio broadcasting industry, Adrian Harris, passed away this morning. After years of battling with diabetes, Harris recently became very ill and at the age of forty-six years, he succumbed to complications related to the illness. Harris’ powerful voice will not soon be forgotten after decades on the airwaves at stations including Power Mix in Dangriga, FM 2000 and most recently Love FM. His family is grieving the loss, but News Five spoke to one of his closest colleagues in the industry. EJ Hill, also a diabetic, told us that Harris is the reason he got into radio. Hill shared fond memories of his friend and says he was with Harris up to last night.

“I said I’m gonna see you tomorrow. He said I’ll be right here, I got nowhere to go. That’s just typical Adrian. I got the call early this morning and I was at the hospital to say goodbye to him. Today’s show was really, really tough, being on the air. I dedicated my show to him and played a lot of tracks that he loved and we all do love. We will miss him but he will live on forever. He was one of the—not one of the best and not because I’m on camera right now—AD was the best thing in radio here in Belize; consummate, ultimate professional. But you know he’s a personable person; forget all the broadcasting and stuff and I think his passion for the job was just as—that’s why we clicked because we had the same passion for the job.

AD was a funny person. You’d have to get to know him. We pulled a lot pranks on each other and that’s what made our friendship more beautiful and loving because we respect what we do for a living and there’s this thing in the industry where you always think like oh you can’t talk to this person because he is the competition. We always say to each other, forget the competition. We were friends before we became competitors. That’s just who AD was. AD was—I don’t wanna talk about him in the past tense. He’ll forever be with me.  AD will always be in my heart. He was a good friend, he was my best friend here in Belize as a matter of fact. I didn’t have any other friends and if I wasn’t at home, not at work people would definitely know where to find me. I would be at AD’s house with his family. But he fought to the end and he’s a fighter and he’ll forever be a fighter in my heart.”

Harris leaves behind a wife, three sons and one daughter.
