Moshe Levi Ben David formerly known as Moses Levi, formerly known as Shyne, and formerly known as Jamal Barrow, was featured on the BBC this morning. The BBC covered Belize’s musical ambassador’s recent visit to Israel following his conversion to Judaism that according to reports included a ceremonial circumcision. But he wasn’t there to promote Belize, Belizean music or indeed anything Belizean. The feature described Shyne’s mother as an Ethiopian refugee woman and did not at all mention that his father was the PM or that Moshe Levi Ben David is Belize’s musical ambassador. The BBC piece was aired this morning.

Belize’s Foreign Ministry is a farce! In ANY other democratic nation in the world, Ambassadorial appointments require approval by Cabinet and ratification by the Senate. I’m ashamed at what Belize has become.
What a shame to the nation…a music ambassador that doesn’t even promote the country’s music or artists. Obsviously he doesn’t give a damn about being the music ambassador…I say we give the title to someone else who is a Belizean at heart and a musician at that. Suggestions??

Shyne went through all that pain for nothing, becasue after Jesus died circumcision was no longer necessary as a part of the cleansing ritual. This is just one more nail in the coffin to show the nepotism that exists in Belize, Fonseca’s, Barrow’s, Awe’s, Wood’s, Briseno’s,Hulse’s just add all the names to this list and you can see for yourself how screwed the people of Belize are. This is why people need to encourage their children to get an education to change the country. I want to come back to Belize and teach Critical Thinking and Leadership development to raise up reasoning minds and people who can lead and not wait for someoneelse to tell them where they are going.

It is a shame that Shyne feels that way about Belize. It has nothing to do with where you were raised. I was born and raised in the states to Belizean parents and I embrace my culture and my people. If he was ashamed of Belize or being Belizean then why accept the title as music ambassador. I feel sorry for him. He has become a disgrace to Belize. People from other caribbean countries big up their country and try everything to make it a better place. For example Wyclef Jean. That is why Shyne will never be more than what he is right now. To the person who mentioned how long he has been out of the country, let’s not forget that a third of that time was spent in jail. Many Belizeans throughout the US still maintain ties with the Belizean community at home & where we live & choose to stay away after dealing with some of the prizes we have encountered at the consulates & embassies.
So we have another Ambassador, another family member in an undeserved position. As long as we recycle the same people & the average Belizean continue to accept that they are inconsequential, our elected official have no reason to listen to our complaints, let alone change these practices.

Shyne, I respect your success in the music industry and personally expected great things to happen (musically speaking) with your return. I said, finally someone will bring the world to Belize for music. Even went as far as thinking that perhaps you would set up a world-class studio/record company to promote artists in Belize.
Belize got talent. I challenge you to take the bull by the horns and “help” push some of the talented local artists to international recognition. For example, we got Supa G, Ras Indio, Lloyd, Berne, Tanya Carter, Nello Player,Melonie Gillet, Instruments of Love, Franxel y Chami-Ka and so many other artists that are struggling and persistent in their dream.
Its all about the right links, which you have, and promotion. You could build your own empire in Belize. Look at how many Jamaican artists come to Belize over and over. Help us open the path to success to these young artists. God will Bless you for that.
