Teen tricks special constable to hand over gun

Earlier this month, a Special Constable was reportedly scammed out of his service weapon by a minor. Forty-one year old Carlos Thompson reported the stolen gun when the nine millimeter pistol was not returned and a seventeen year old minor was charged with Theft and Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm in the Family Court. Thompson initially reported that he was walking when someone came up next to him, pulled the gun from his pants waist and ran off. But it was later revealed he was hanging with friends, including the teen, on November thirteenth. The minor allegedly told him that he could get a clip that officer needed for the weapon and Thompson allowed him to take. But that was the last time he saw the youth, until he was detained on Monday. Since the crime involves a firearm, the minor was remanded to the Wagner’s Facility at the Belize Central Prison and is due back in court on December twenty-first.

  1. Robert says:

Don’t they test police officers for intelligence before hiring them?

  2. Red Bear says:

Why would a police officer give a firearm to a child? Isn’t that a crime of some sort? It should be.

  3. BZNinCALI says:

So will Officer Thompson be charged with making a false statement to police? What happened to the original clip? And what exactly were they doing when he gave slick his gun? Sounds like extremely poor judgment or complete BS, what is he really hiding?

  4. rootsman says:

What kind of idiots are we recruiting for special constables, seems like he should be the one to be charged for possessing an unlicensed firearm,
Since he actually gave the youth the gun he should also be charged for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

  5. Oscar965 says:

Our police department and constables are mostly (Mostly not all) made up of Belizeans who did not complete high school…some of then did not even complete primary school. AND THAT IS THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM…PERIOD!!!! We need EDUCATED AND TRAINED OFFICERS AND CONSTABLES…SAD TO SAY THAT IS NOT THE CASE IN BELIZE. WE HAVE CORPORALS, CAPTAINS, AND MANY MORE POLICE IN HIGH POSITIONS WHO DON’T EVEN HAVE A HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION!!!!

  6. belizeanpride says:

lack of professionalism and intelligence, how the hell he hands a gun to a youth like that, damn!! so it means he wanted to buy more bullets apart from what he’s given at the police dep. what was he’s intentions of buying more than given to him? he is really stupid and old one at this age should be more cautious but it really shows how dumb he is and later report it, as stolen. this is no trick this is stupidity.

  7. Belizean to the bone says:

Very true Oscar, but with the low salaries we offer police, educated people wont get interested in become a police officer.

  8. Edward says:

I think the Minister of police should look into conducting recruitment at the Community Baboon Sanctuary. I think he will find that he can produce new recruits with far superior IQ’s into the police force to replace all the “special” constables and he may even find a new police commissioner out of the whole deal. I think that this “special” constable needs to first be tested for a normal brain function and if it is even remotely marginal (which it might be, after all I am assuming he can dress himself) then he needs to be charged because he is even more culpable than the minor. But then again this is Belize and the rule of law does not apply to the police or politicians. We are truly at their mercy; many of us don’t realize that they can shoot us in our heads in the middle of the day in front of God and country and get away with it. We could be walking to work or school minding our own business and if they so choose they can walk up to us and kill us on the spot and be home in time for dinner as if nothing happened. Let that sink in for a little and then realize we are subjugated. We do live after all in an authoritarian society where the people’s word does not count for much. As the late ……………….. once said “!@#^ the people we only go to the people when we need them”. For me as a young man at the time hearing him say this, it will forever be my lasting impression of politics and politicians in Belize because what they have illustrated to us over the past decades is a mentality much the same. We are but pawns/playthings in their get rich quick game.

  9. CEO says:

Intellegence and competence are called to question here indeed!

How can he / they serve and protect us and enforce the law if he / they do not even know “law” one: do not give up your revolver for ANY reason! It is difficult to identify fakes within the ranks. Could this be another fake cop?

  10. Islander says:

Fire the special constable, charge them both and throw away the keys. Done deal.

  11. CHICAGORILLA says:

The police officer is incompetent. He shoul be fired immediately. He’s a waste of tax payers money. fiya fu he !@@$!

  12. waterbaby says:

LOl, @ the entire situation, people plz, Belize has the most corrupted Police force in the world maybe, not sure, hmmmm, he gives his gun to a minor? I agree, arrested them both and throw away the keys, I do hope this “special Officer” is charged with something. Oh what a country this has become..

  13. bzgial says:

He should be fired , reason failure to safe guard his weapon evenn if ther is more to the story we dont want to know he is just not worthy of owning a firearm
