    The long-term solution is free enterprise. Let the farmers sell cane to whomever wants to buy it, and stop trying to control the industry. Government regulation has failed.

    No, I think that the sugar industry should provide their own long term solution for their survival, what good are they to the country and themselves if they cannot bear their own weight.

    It is understandable that government should rescue them in a time of crisis however this should not be an ongoing situation, they should have qualified managers that are able to foresee the future of the industry and take necessary measures to maintain their own survival even if it means processing of alternate crops in order to take advantage of their full capacity in the off season, this could possible include the processing of switch grass as an alternate crop to produce bio-fuel which I understand can give five times as much yield as it takes to produce.
