Guatemalan national convicted of Drug Trafficking

A thirty-five year old Guatemalan National was caught trying to hide almost a pound of weed on March seventh. But it wasn’t until Tuesday that Dixie Wagner was convicted of Drug Trafficking when his case concluded before Magistrate Aretha Ford. While the drugs were not found on his person, Police Corporal Ivan Galvez testified that he saw Wagner dispose of a bag, which the cops claim had the drug. Two other witnesses testified against Wagner, who chose not to offer a defense and was found guilty. Magistrate Ford fined him ten thousand dollars to be paid by February twenty-eighth 2011 or in default spend two years in jail.
What is the purpose of the fine, convicted felons should be deported back to their country of origin.

He should have been jailled, then deported. He’ll pay the fine by selling drugs! Are these magistrates really that simple, or just acting that way, as they are amongsthis customers?
So he is just let go to walk the streets and sell drugs again. He is an illegal alien, what about deportation of illegal that commit crimes does Belize law does not recognize. That is why criminals are running to Belize, the law is just about does not exsist. Belize legal system needs to be overhauled big time, better get started.
Lets treat them the way Belizeans would be treated if caught doing the same in their country. And let it be for Guats, Mex and US nationals. Let us have some PRIDE.

I concur with the above sentiments. To simply fine a person convicted of this quantity of drug possession is not enough; in all likelihood this fine may be chump change for this guy. The law needs to change – a mandatory fine plus immediate deportation. Belize has enough criminals of its own already.
